New Assualt information. Not sure if this was posted yet… if so, sorry.

Have you ever wanted to customize missions to suit your playing style? The FINAL FANTASY XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc will include a new style of doing battle called "Assault," which will allow you to enjoy the Near East in your own way!

The Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc will introduce an entirely new way to play FINAL FANTASY XI--“Assault” missions!

The FINAL FANTASY XI development team created the "Assault" system to provide a means of casual enjoyment for high-level players--the main target audience of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc. Assault allows for parties of three to six members to enjoy gameplay that does not last a long period of time and requires little recruitment effort. Players can choose the location, decide whether or not to impose a level restriction, and select the type of Assault mission to fit with their objectives and party organization.

Players who often participate in Assault missions will earn "Imperial Standing" credits, which can be traded for items in the various Assault locations. In addition, players who succeed in an Assault mission have the possibility of obtaining a mysterious item. After receiving an appraisal in town, the mysterious item will then be displayed as a normal item.

Repeat success in Assault will also raise your mercenary rank, which will even further increase the number and variety of available Assault missions!

I doubt they'd allow us to do this more than 3 times a week though, otherwise people would just stop doing pickup parties and do assault. If they do allow it to be more than that, chances are the rewards won't be that great. Regardless, it sounds like fun.

I don't think so, doesn't sound like it gives you any EXP.
 
It sounds a lot like PSO imo.
Will be fun, but probably only rewarding if you start right when it comes out and dont stop for 3 years >_>;

It gives me wood, so I won't mind getting nothing else for my participation.

I never said that this didn't totally excite me, my reply was to lecan who said we'd only be able to do it for example once ever 3 days because it would replace Pick -up parties. If it doesn't give you xp, it won't replace pick up parties.

I"m so on this like a fat kid on a smartie!

I'm not trying to corner anyone here.
When I start talking about wood on Friday afternoon, it's best not to take me too seriously. Now, if it's a Monday...Look out! :wink:


This looks as interesting as anything else in FFXI, and let's not kid ourselves...FFXI is totally sweet. :tup:

Both the raids on the beastmen, as well as, the raids on the imperial city to us.

I was just saying that if it gave exp, we either wouldn't be able to do it very often (ie: For significant amounts of party play) or it would be for a very small amount of exp and we'd be able to do it as much as we want.

Regardless, it looks like a lot of fun, and in-between getting the new jobs I'll so be in there with my buddies tearing it up ;D

Assault looks like fun, at least for the attackers and not the defenders :)
