So, for those of you that don't know, I'm in the Hotel biz. I work front desk on the check in shift 5 nights a week.

This week, the AAU Junior Olympics are in town, big event, lots of people staying in hotels for the next 2 weeks all around town. Unfortunatly, we had scheduled to have our carpets cleaned this week, before the manager realized that AAU was this week. That is due to bad management, but that is a whole different story.

So today they cleaned the carpets on the 3rd floor (out of 3), so that whole floor was blocked off lastnight, and the whole 2nd floor is blocked off tonight. A woman came in, first off bitching because she can't use a coupon for a room that the coupon said it isn't valid for, on a night the coupon says it isn't valid for. Then I told her about the carpets being cleaned and offered her a room on the 3rd floor with 2 beds and a pullout couch, she said she talk to her husband and then goes out side and argues with him before she comes back in and begrudgingly accepts.

So I check them in and give them keys, the whole while she's standing behind her husband on the phone bitching about my hotel. Unfortunatly, the room I sent them to wasn't clean. I don't know why, because I'm not a housekeeper. The whole floor was supposed to be blocked off for the rest of the night anyway. I couldn't make her understand I was doing her a favor by offering her the room in the first fuckin place. So she comes back down and demands a room of the same type and says they aren't going to pay the rate she signed off on because they had to haul all their stuff back down the stairs (I watched them take the elevator). Well, I didn't have another room of the same type.

She demands I give her a cash refund on the spot. I tried to explain to her that she hadn't actually been charged anything yet, all I did was put an authorization on her card. The calmer I am the madder it makes her. So I check her out and give her a reciept showing a 0.00 balance with no charges posted. This infuriates her. She turns around to leave and another couple is coming in, so she stops them and says "none of their rooms are clean, this place is a pig sty, you shouldn't stay here." Then she storms off out to her mini-van.

The couple that came in while she was leaving did take her warning seriously, because they asked to see the room first. They went and looked at it and even commented on how nice it was, but declined to take it because the carpet was still damp.

In one respect, I'm glad they didn't stay here, and I'm glad that she will never come back. In the other respect, could you possibly any more of a fucking bitch under any similar circumstances?

I see a divorce in her near future. No one could stay married to a hag like that bitch. Useless fucking piece of shit parent had put her child in one of those beuty pagents where they dress their children up like prostitutes and parade them out in front of a bunch of molesters. She was still wearing her little tiara, mini skirt and more make up than Tammy Baker. I sure do fucking hate the general public sometimes.

I understand completely.. A few years ago, my first job.. (lolwalmart) I was a customer service associate... Had to deal with people the entire day, with all types of problems, ranging from irresponsible parents to abusive boyfriends (and even abusive girlfriends.)

Its insane, and completely mind boggling... I know Im not all that old, but Ive heard stories of life and what happened from my parents and grandparents... And all I gotta say is where tf is the human race going.

But anyway, since then Ive floated around to a few other jobs, and eventually landed on Best Buy, which give you a very predictable type of customer... Very few crazy people.

I work at Wal-Mart too! *high-fives Ruffy*

Personally I want to uppercut every customer into a meat grinder...they talk to me like I'm a machine, and assume that since I'm wearing a name tag that I'm an idiot. I want to show them my certificate of excellence in BC calculus from senior year so that they'll quit telling me it's a credit card several times in a row.

That sucks you had to deal with that bitch, trippy...hopefully she'll fall off a cliff.

its a debit card, idiot!

:)

stupid people

i havent had a job since december (i worked at gamestop part time as holiday help)

And i have seen some pretty retarded people that are ass holes walk in there and think they know everything

I think every shift i had there which was about 4 or 5 a week during the holiday spree we had to call the cops.... it's a gamestop... in a suburban town.... its not getto or anything.. its in a nice location with lots of other buisness' and i remmber one time this guy got pissed off at my manager because we ran outa Wii's he said ILL BE BACK BUDDY AND NEXT TIME IT WONT BE PRETTY then he walked over to the other manager on duty and goes that little twerp better watch his back...

people can be really stupid.... but at the same time doesnt it give you entertaining stories to tell everybody, then you get to be nicley assholeish to them... you just go "how are you mam"(in a stern/rude way) if a customer was a prick to me thats what id do "HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
just do whatchya gotta do works a bitch
lol :\ ive only had two jobs and i had one at burgerking but they never scheduled me for training every time i called in to ask when they said your not on the list :| o well

Just avoid working with people. Like me, I'm back into data entry. Only guy I gotta work with drops off stacks of papers once a day. Aside from that, it's me, my scanner.... and about 18 gigs of porn. It's good times.

Man, Trip. I feel your pain.

My first (two, but for the same company) jobs were in the Customer Service biz. I was a cashier (and later on, a trainer OF cashiers) for two restaurants in a chain. Some people just can't be pleased. Pure and simple.
  • In early 2001, I was working a late shift, it was about 9:30pm and a dude from New Jersey (no offense to anyone from Jersey, but I hate Jersey with a passion) was attempting to pay with his credit card. Declined! I normally would give the card a go twice the normal way, then once punched in, and then attempt to call it in. God, do I remember the decline codes I'd get over the phone and the appalled story I would get from folks after telling them, "I'm sorry, your card has been declined" on a Sunday night. While most people would say "but I know I just put money in there!" (If you deposit on a Friday evening or Saturday, it won't go through until Monday lolz), and let it go after minor argument.

F no. The short stocky fella with an attitude looks me dead in the eye (I used to kinda lean on the counters, and would appear shorter than I really am) and says to me:

Dude: "you sayin' my card is declined? I oughta hit you."
    Me: "excuse me sir?"
Dude: "i oughta hit you straight in the face"

At this point, dude's got my attention, and he's only about 5'3, so I straightened myself up and looked down at him (I'm 6'4" and was in very good shape at the time) and reiterated, "what was that now?"

Dude: "nothin' man, gimme my card."

    He paid in cash.
  • A separate time, I had some asshole passing through attempt to scare me with lawyer tactics. Same exact scenario, only this time, instead of threatening to use physical violence, this guy (who looked to be in his mid-50s, and was tall and lanky, possibly taller than me) demanded I give him my name, and my phone number, and that "his lawyers would be calling me." By this time, I'd gotten a thick skin to people like him, so I didn't even bother being nice. I let him know that the only part of my name he was ever going to get was on the front of my shirt, that he could piss off and get out of my store, and that if he had a problem, we could sort it out with the managers and local police. He paid in cash also.
  • The final story was quite possibly the funniest. A man in a wheelchair had come in with his attendant (a woman), eaten, and he sent her to pay with her credit card. On the back was written, in large permanent marker, "See my I.D." I told the lady I could not accept the credit card from her, nor could she sign for the charges, since obviously she was not a man, and she did not have his ID with her. She went back, and the man came wheeling up, quite furious.

He proceeded to tell me that she's more than welcome to sign for his things and if she says that she's with him, she's with him. I did remain calm, since he was disabled, and let him know that if *anyone* came to me with a card bearing an obviously gender-specific name, had no ID with them, and was attempting to sign for it, I wouldn't accept the card, and then asked *him* to produce an ID. He did, signed for it in a pissed-off manner, and wheeled back to his table rapidly.
Good times, that customer service industry.

Oh, and about Sunday nights. Large groups of people straight from church have no business eating out, especially if they piss off their waiters/servers by leaving Chick Publications tracts as part of their minuscule tips....

So, for those of you that don't know, I'm in the Hotel biz...
im so, so sorry... i used to work the front desk at a Holiday Inn Select and know exactly how you feel

i remember one time that there was a Darkover Convention and one of the guests was just being a complete prick (i dont really remember what about)... but he pissed me off so bad that i decided id set 2 wakeup calls for him... one at 3:00am, and the other at 3:15am (since it usually takes about 15mins for someone to start falling asleep, i wanted to make sure he was awake :spiteful: )

In my opinion customer service will be the same until the day our younger generation (those of us ranging from 20-25, possibly 30) make up the majority of customers who are wandering in to these places of business.

I work in the customer service business as well, (I train cashiers, kinda funny eh Trist? =P) and it never ceases to amaze me the stupidity, and down right ignorance of most of the people I deal with on a day to day basis. It's like they think because they're older that they have some kind of right to do and say as they please, to anyone they please, without taking in to consideration that the person they are saying this stuff to is in fact another human being. I don't accept this kind of behavior, and I don't expect anyone I train to accept it either.

When our generation is the one making up the majority of the older population I think there will be a big difference, simply because most of us just don't care enough about "ZOMG I could be saving 5 dolla!!" for example, to really make a fuss about it. At least, that's how I see it anyway.

I wish that paradigm shift would happen a lot sooner. All too often do I see those in the customer service/service in general industry being picked on, like they are a lower form of life, generally by those who have never had to deal with the shit that comes with it.

I didn't and still don't tolerate that behavior, and I trained my cashiers never to as well. I believe firmly in giving gratuity to servers and the like, and while I do base it on the service they give, I don't throw out money like it's candy.

I really hope you're right Atreus. And you may be on to something there, but I hold no hope for the human race.

1. Our parents and grandparents don't have near the experience with customer service that we do. Back when they were young people had more respect if they were in public. Since they didn't have to deal with unreasonable people, who knows, they might have become that kind of customer later in life.

2. There were also way more 'non-customer' related jobs back then. Namely factory jobs... So once again, dealing with irate customers not an occurrence for them.

Hopefully we don't forget what it is like to deal with idiots. Maybe this is one of those vicious cycles lol.

That sucks Trippy. People are crazy.

Oh, and about Sunday nights. Large groups of people straight from church have no business eating out, especially if they piss off their waiters/servers by leaving Chick Publications tracts as part of their minuscule tips....

LOL The church groups were always funny. Being that I'm a Christian myself, I don't understand why they were so unhappy and irritable towards their servers if they were Christians. I also did not like that they assumed that since I worked on Sunday that I wasn't a Christian. When asked one time why I did I replied with, "Well you come to a restaurant on Sunday and someone has to serve you." Also, they would leave their little "Chick Publications" in place of tips that they believed was their part in "witnessing" to others which showed they they really are selfish and cheap and wanted to feel better about themselves by feeling like they were helping. Thus in a way they were preaching to a Christian who is grateful that they cared about my soul but if they would have spoken with me instead of ranting on me then they would have seen that they wasted the church's money on the booklet and that I could have used it instead. Also my sister and I called the booklets "Get To Heaven Free Passes" although we never decided how many were needed.

Also, people who would ask why the restaurant wasn't open on a holiday really irritated me. Servers, cashiers, etc have families of their own and even if they don't believe in a certain holiday it is nice for them to be able to have a day to themselves or to spend with their family.

Sorry for the long rant. ^^;

It seems that a lot of older people (especially older southern women) seemed to me that they expected everyone to do stuff for them because we "owe" it to them for some reason. Never understood that but that's what I encountered many times. One lady who ordered a steak and asked if we could cut it up for her on a Saturday night during the dinner rush. I replied that we didn't do that but we had steak tips that were already cut and hopefully that was good for her. Note: the steak tips were on the kid's menu.

I think that as a society in general that we are becoming lazy too. Just because there are so many devices that can do everything for us.

LOL The church groups [......] "Get To Heaven Free Passes" although we never decided how many were needed.

I love 'Christians'. No really. Christians are fine, but 'Christians' make me laugh.

"Someone has to serve you" is a very good retort. If they are in the business of 'saving people,' and believe that Sunday is the day of rest, then why do they go out to make other people work? It really is brilliant... According to them, the only people that would be working on Sunday are not saved. So, by going out and having a good time - they get to attempt to 'help' a poor soul who is working because of their presence.

What a graceful slap to the face.

Yes, that has a lot to do with it. Not much more anyone can say. Respect doesn't exist unless you're watching some gang on television. Responsibility - lolForget it. I am a realist, just can't help that it sounds like pessimism.

I sincerely hope so Atreus. I try my best to be as polite and nice to any sort of customer service rep I encounter. Being one myself, I know what it's like to not have an answer for a customer or just have a bad day. Usually, I can get some free stuff out or it, or just a "thanks for being so patient" is worth it for me.

I remember one time Karihkinz and I were hanging out at an Applebee's. We hadn't seen each other in a few months so we were like TALKTALKTALKTALKTALKTALKTALK and we didn't realize that almost 40 minutes had passed since our server had taken our order. The manager came out and gave us our entire meal for free because we were so patient and didn't complain. Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me.

BUT! I'm sorry that happened to you Trippy. I wish I could think of some crazy customer stories right now but my head feels like it's going to split in two. Maybe I'll get a few tonight and I'll repost. I love stupid customer stories. ;D

That's pretty shitty TH.

Ugh, some people can just be the most inconsiderate pieces of shit some times. I work in a restaurant (not guna say which one because the place has killed my pride lol) and our dish staff is pretty incompetant and most nights instead of going home at around 10 like I should be, I get thrown in dish.

Now this isn't so bad sometimes seeing as I know what I have to do in dish to get the job done fast seeing as I was in dish before I got moved up. But I digress, anyways back on the point, the most annoying thing that I have ever encountered is at around 10:45 (closes at 11) when we are just finishing up what needs to be done, some inconsiderate ass fucks come in and decide to eat.

Honestly though how fucking retarded do people have to be to come into a restaurant (sometimes in packs of 20s) and demand a fully cooked meal by one person on line and have it fast. I've heard so many servers come back into the kitchen and bitch about the customers because they want to go home seeing as it is already late and the pricks want to stay and chat about why they are so fucking fat that they have to go to a restaurant at 10:45 and eat holding everyone there up atleast another 30mins-1hour.

Just putting this out there, I havn't done it nor have I seen anyone at my pridecrushing job done it but if you go into a restaurant really late before closing and expect to have a meal that hasn't been tampered with.... don't

:) <3Solan<3 :)

Ahhh. customer service...

I used to work in a pet store that sold all kinds of critters. Just as the store opened a young girl and a young guy walked in and came straight to me at the counter. I looked up and smiled and said, "Can I help you with something?" She asked if we had any chinchillas. I said yes and pointed to where they were. At this time I was just finishing counting the drawer and all that good opening stuff. Keep in mind I'm the only 1 in the store other than the kennel personel.

So I go back to what I'm doing and she says, "I wanna hold 1." I asked her how old she was and she told me she was 16. I explained to her that you have to be 18 to hold any animal in the store. So she says, "I have 2 at home, I know how to handle them." I say again, store policy, you have to be 18. Then she points to the guy (who looked pretty young too) and said he was 18. I asked to see his DL and he said he didn't have it. (The reason were so anal about age is if the animal gets hurt, I would have to pay to take care of w/e injuries. If she got bit, The store would have to pay for any medical expenses... ya, screw that.) I actually explained that to her and she got all huffy. Then she says "Can you take it out and hold it so I can pet it?" So I reply, "I'm the only 1 here for the next 30 min. If you wanna walk around the mall for a few minutes I'll take 1 out for you when more employees are in the store." She grabs the guys arm and says, "Fuck this, let's go." Right on honey... don't let the door hit you in the ass...

Fast foward maybe 2 hours...

I'm walking through the store and this lady starts shouting hey you, YOU!!! I just turned around to see who was shouting and this lady is right in my face... Then I see the girl... "Where's your manager????" she yells at me... Shit lady, I'm 2 feet from you, no need to shout. (No I didn't say that, but I wanted to lol) Right then the owner of the store comes around the corner and asks the lady what the problem is. "My daughter came in here and was ignored for 5 minutes before she was even acknowledged!!! (30 seconds, if that) Then, this girl told her she couldn't hold a chinchilla because she was too young. We have chinchillas at home and have had them for years, she's been handling them since she was little!!!!" At which point the store owner explained the age limit just as I did for the girl. Then she says, "Well that's fine but this girl (at that point being called a girl was getting a little irritating) was rude to her, she didn't have to be rude. My daughter just asked then if she could pet 1 and she told my daughter to go pet the ones she has at home!!! (WTF!!!!!! I NEVER said that!!! At this point I'm pissed) This is unacceptable I want this girl fired right now!!!!" And as you can imagine everyone is staring, including my co-workers, and the kennel staff that could hear the woman from the back.

So my boss looks at me with the most serious face I had seen in about the year I worked there and said "You're fired, get your things and don't come back." At this point I was about to burst into tears because I knew he didn't believe her... The woman turnes to me, pokes me in the shoulder, yes, touches me, and says "That's what you get for being rude to my daughter, I hope you learned your lesson." She turns, grabs her daughter by the arm and starts to leave. As she's maybe 10 feet away, my boss says, " Hey, Jen, seems I'm down a person today... you're rehired." and walks off. Let me tell you, I have never seen a person's face turn as red as this woman's did...

I was glad my boss didn't believe her, needless to say I quit a few months later, started school full time and haven't worked since...

most jobs are service jobs I work in a Sudden Service in Clarksville, TN so it's not like you get a choice of a desk job unless you apply to Convergys but then you have people yelling in your ear(heard good things and bad about it).

Ever since the new I.D. law about buying alcohol(in a nutshell if they dont have ID they cant buy alcohol period, and must show it everytime they buy it even if they walk out and go back in to buy some more).

At our store, it's kinda uptight we dont take cracked IDs or such, they fall in the possiblity of being 'modified'. Basically 'modified' is taking your driver's liscense and microwaving it to peel back the plastic and changing the numbers with a pen to make it look like it hasnt been expired or that you're old enough(srsly).

Now it's pretty funny when old people go to buy alcohol and their IDs are fucked up.

Reminds me when I had this trio of old people with dirty clothes and dont smell too nice(fairly common) trying to get two cans of Busch Ice. Old guy gets em, I ring them up, I ask for his ID.

The I.D. looked like it climbed barely out of a fight with a paper shredder. I tell him I can't take it. He gets mad and his wife(smells the worst btw) starts saying "Don't we look old enough?!

I say yes but I can't take patched or frayed IDs regardless, I summon my manager in a bit, and her explain the process. In case you're wondering why we have to card even the ancient folk, they may've had DUIs or something along those lines.

In the end we ended up selling them the beer, but I promise if she wasnt there I'd turn them down because they smelled like they crawled out of their graves their grandkids pushed them down from to get their inheritance.

that and...I'd get fired since it was on tape >_>;
