Firestreak said:I am not unsuccessful with the Auction House as it is. And I do price my items to undercut other bidders, and it seems to work out ok for me getting the sale. As for me getting a good price out of the item.. it's so so. I simply got frusterated for several months and then surrendered and joined the hoardes of undercutters. The assumption that just because I am unhappy with the system means I haven't adapted to it is incorrect. What could make the system more fair?
1) Alter the queue system as described.
2) Modify bid to lowest needed when sale goes to someone who has put it up less than the bid.
3) Display the cheapest product for bidders to reference before bidding.
Because now that I think about it, if you follow my tire shop example. What's really going on is, you're selling for 50.00, the guy across the street is selling for 49.94, but... his price is a secret. They go in to buy from you and he grabs the 50 bucks, never telling anyone how much would have been a low enough bid.
That is the truth of what our AH is. If you consider that fair... eh, you got a strange sense of fair.
OK well if I am strange for thinking this is fair, then I say your method is just too much trouble and BS.
Being 100% fair. Putting FAIR above everything else is maybe not what was wanted. Loopholes remain. But c'mon, it's not full blown white collar crime. You can't actually manipulate the system at all. The system does what it should. It's just a program and you can't manipulate it. You can only understand it, and its trends.
SE could have designed it differently...Sure. They settled on this model because they liked it for some reason. Just like any aspect of any game there will be people that like something and people who don't like something. I really REALLY don't see what the big fuss is about though.
It's doubtful that it will change. You can write to them and tell them how you feel about it. Will they spend money on the resources to re-code the AH? Most probably not. Queues won't solve anything. I thinnk that will irritate more than help.
If we are using real life examples and such, as in your tire shop example, why would I buy from someone if I didn't know what the price was? You may say, "Exactly!!!" But it's not that I have to know what they are charging if I know what I am willing to spend. So you have a tire company that charges 50 dollars. You know you can get the tires for that (kindof like looking at the price history)...You can check other shops and get their prices too. But none of the stores actually have a set of tires but one...
Regardless that this shop might know they are the only ones with a set of tires for sale, you stil know what they are worth, and you'll still only bid so much for that item.
High supply = buyer's market
Low supply = seller's market
If I am farming I add supply where there is none. WHen I am buying I try to buy when supply is high and plan ahead. Weekend (drought) is coming...Better buy all my consumables in advance.
I dunno. I just fail to see why it has to be looked at as so difficult or unfair. The tire shop comparo is just bad. So you joined the undercutters. Big whoop.
You just decide how badly do you want quick cash (the potential that someone will guess you undercut price and you lose out on some money raises), or how badly do you want to ensure you get all or damn near all of what the "going rate" is (you will probably have to wait longer, but when your stuff does sell, you're guaranteed that full amount).
The bazaars are wysiwyg. That's fair, right?
The bazaar system is one method and the other is an auction.
This is why the tire shop thing is not so good.
Tire shops don't auction. It's truly supply and demand. The risk you take as a seller is entirely up to you. Everyone kknows how this works by now.
It's more like ebay (without certain details viewable) than a legitimate shop.
