I know this is an old problem but I can't find the solution.

All the avatars show up through people and transparent graphics have horizontal lines going through them.

save me before I become eEmo

Moved to Support & Feedback.

Now... what? I don't get it. You want jiggy?

I'm referring to the game, not QCDN x_x

Now I'm gonna steal your character and get jiggy with her

Doh. Moved back to GD.

I smoke the forum crack too much.

It's a driver conflict, you'll need to look for the supported drivers (Probably older ones...)

I have the same problem, but it's only in windower

Westyle, if I'm not mistaken, you posted some time ago with "computer slowing" issues, which were pretty easily traced back to your video card drivers. Once you installed the new ones, it fixed the problems right up.

Did you remember to uninstall the old drivers first, though? If you did, and there are no fighting versions, then you might have to revert (as Garvin said) to an older release.

I've got a similarish problem. I recently switched from PS2 to Xbox 360 and now any spell effect that appears on the ground produces a large square. It doesn't affect spells like Protect whose effects appear around the player rather than on the ground. Basically if someone casts raise or summons an avatar, the lighting for raise or the summoning effect for a summon will appear stretched out into a square. I'm probably just going to reinstall and see if that fixes it, since a PoL scan of FFXI didn't pick up any corrupt files.

The only thing that isn't right is summons and transparency. Someone made a post about the same problem a year or two ago but I don't remember the solution. There's no conflicts and I'd hate to use an old version of the driver =/

When I got my new vid card after my old one died (granted, I was broke at the time, so the new one managed to be worse than the 3-years-older old one), I ran into similar problems with avatars having horizontal stripes missing from them. It was eventually resolved by popping into the registry to edit the game's resolution to go higher than the config tool would naturally let me set it. (I think I currently have it at 1280 x 1280.)

Avatars still lag me a little with this vid card though, I never was able to eliminate that. And many weather effects - particularly earth weather for some reason - lag me a lot so I've had to leave them permanently off (I miss Al'Taieu's uber cool sky). Telepoints are also murderously laggy.

These are all motivations for me to eventually get a better vid card. :P

It was me, and I believe I even posted a screenshot to go with that may be broken now.

I just reverted to the oldest drivers I could find (ie... the CD provided ones)

This sounds like what my PC version of FFXI does O.o

Is this what the glitch does when an avatar is summoned?
