Avatar Gates

The thing that got me thinking about this Is ive been doing the Waking the Beast series of quests again for another fight with carbuncle prime, and just so ppl know..

SPOILERS LIE AHEAD!

The celestial avatars: ifrit titan shiva ramuh leviathan and garuda guard the 6 elemental protocrystals and often refer to ancient events and having been asleep (and are currently asleep though they move ever towards wakefulness, especially as summoners and events siphon away their energy and power)

The terrestrial avatars are beings who became avatars through some unknown means 10,000+ years ago in order to protect mankind. (Diabolos was born into his role as a terrestrial avatar in the ancient kuluu city of pso'xja 10,000 years ago, apparently of his own free will to protect mankind, this was when the emptiness last appeared in vanadiel, and a chosen method of escape was to flee into the dreamland he could provide as ruler of the realm of the subconscious - dynamis) This is all from the multiple threads of information diabolos gives you in his rematch fights based on how far along you are in CoP. (i went and watched them all just now while getting the pic in the post above)

I'm having lots of trouble reconciling alot of the histories though, so people who have done CoP or other missions feel free to chime in with actual information from cutscenes and such.

Now. In waking the beast, carbuncle has you travel to the protocrystals with an orb of his design in order to draw forth more powerful manifestations of the celestial avatars. defeating them gains you larger fragments of their power which cabuncle has you bring to full moon fountain to use to awaken his ancient and unnamed friend. Battles ensue, and the net result is that the still sleeping avatars oppose you, but in the end you reign them under control and feed the power to carbuncle's ally. Each conquest week after he enjoins you to undertake the task again, feeding more energy to his friend in order to bring them back from unconsciousness.

I dont believe hes talking about fenrir, who is clearly not unconscious or dreaming, but abroad in the world. Fenrirs presence in full moon fountain is a direct result of a sealing by the nation of windurst after karuha-baruha attempted to meld with the terrestrial avatar of dreams and thus control it. (he failed) (windurst storyline). But fenrir is not bound to full moon fountain in the same way that carbuncle isnt bound to the standing stones.

Instead the terrestrial avatars divide their power into fragments that allow them direct control or influence. One such is the fragment of carbuncle behind his avatar gate in pso'xja, and fenrirs behind his. both are recovered during CoP to empower phoenix who was destroyed and requires alot of energy in order to be reborn. In diabolos's cutscenes he at one point remarks that hes surprised that phoenix is still wounded but implies that it doesnt keep her from meddling.

So we have carbuncle who divides his energy through his rubies scattered through the world like spy devices and who takes an active role in the lives of summoners and in the siphoning of power from the celestials.

Fenrir who guards magic and has a limited knowledge of the future and thousands of years of knowledge

Bahamut who is the ruler of the wyrms and the sky, but has been asleep in the fragmented cape riverne and only recently awoken to prominence by the approach of the keeper of the apocalypse and who has his own pacts and agenda (he chooses to serve humanity by destroying them so that the keeper doesnt have the energy to destroy the world)

Phoenix who acts through agents such as tenzen, but cannot take physical form (though she does manage to ressurect selh'teus and transform his emptiness into manifestation for herself - selhteus can be considered an avatar of phoenix at this point.) She also apparently is concerned with the transformation of emptiness in all beings into new forms and in particular the transformation of the captured emptiness by the dawnmaiden in the chamber of eventide into life.

And diabolos who controls the subconscious, manifests in the waking world only through the power of a summoner who has overcome him in the realm of dreams, and who controls dynamis.

Now I thought that the 6th tower meant a 6th terrestrial avatar, but reviewing speeches made by fenrir and diabolos they have both referred to there being 5 terrestrial avatars (fenrir names their aspects, dreams, rainbows, moon, ressurection, and the sky) and tenzen in conversation with diabolos (and we can assume derives his knowledge of avatars from his deep personal connection with phoenix) that there is 5. So the question remains.

If theres 5 terrestrial avatars, made to protect mankind but free-willed enough to determine the way they "protect" (up yours bahamut), and 6 celestials of the ancient times. And all the Terrestrials are represented in the towers of the ku'luu city of pso'xja and that they protect the mothercrystal at fei'yin.

Then what is sleeping in full moon fountain, requires a ton of energy to return to this world, and is something the celestials would oppose, drawing ever nearer to waking as theyre drained?

I swear I read somewhere in the storyline that the protocrystals and the celestial avatars are important to the health and welfare of vanadiel, and in the fenrir moon reading of a time in which the celestials will wake and must be opposed by the terrestrials. I'll have to dig and find it though. Its all very interesting.

I need to go back and find all the CS and such for the tuning-in and tuning-out quests as well, where shikaree Y was trying to force a confrontation with the sleeping gods through the crystal of darkness that was shattered. Seemed to indicate that one of the celestials had woken or been destroyed.

The Celestial avatars have virtually no tie-in to Vana'Diel. They reside in a different space-time, thier own planes of reality. The Terrestials(Fenrir, Carbuncle, Phoenix, Bahamut, and Diabolos) can, have, and will roam freely on Vana'Diel's surface, they actually live there. They've played major roles in the games history.

Odin, Alexander, Raiden, and whatever else they add in could possibly be dubbed as minor terrestial avatars, subdieties(theres a chance theres more than 1 major religion on Vana'Diel.) Or more Celestial's, which wouldn't make too much sense imo. I'd go with Subdieties personally. Or hell, they could just be very powerful characters. Afterall, if rag-tag adventurers are slaying gods(not refering to sky here), avatars, ancient wyrms, theres bound to be even more powerful normal characters around.

Odin, Alexander are celestrial of light and dark they are in the same cata as prime avatars they live withen the crystals: They are the guardians of the 6 elemental crystals. terrestrial avatars are higher guardians that protect the 5 mother crystals. (which in the story line is why behumet came back to destory man kind because prometia is taking over the mother crystals. Not sure the whole story have not got that far yet. now there are other summon that are nither ter or cel such as kirin so there is a 3rd cata of summons which is prob where you got raiden but he his not a cel summon

Omega and Ultima summons in several games? That's news to me.

Oh, and Zeromus and Exdeath are summonable in FF12, from what I've heard... doesn't make them avatars...
you mis understuded me let me word it diffently. omega and ultima made apperences in ff7 and ff10 they also in 11. kirin was a summon in ff6. Im not saying they be summon what im saying is there are other summon that are in the game but it look like the one that will have a posiblity to summon will be the cel= celestial avatars odin(dark), Alexander(light), Ramuh(lightning), Garuda(wind), Leviathan(water), Shiva(ice), Titan(earth), and Ifrit(fire) and the terrestrial avatars fenrir is moon carbuncle is bringer of rainbow, phoenix is life, diablos is nightmare and behamut is sky

it is yet uncertain that all the terrestrial avatar will be playable or even odin and alexander but the easter in the game play move to believe that alex and odin will be at some point and time.

Yes, we know that there are many names popping up as "Avatars" in other final fantasy games. But this isn't them. This is not FF6: Online. This is a seperate world, story, faces. Gilgamesh was a Summon. Now he's the leader of the Pirates of Norg. Odin and Alexander could be figureheads like Gilgamesh. Opposing warring nations in some future expansion perhaps? I'd enjoy that much more than having them be labeled as any form of Avatar.

God damnit I need to get further in CoP.

This is all very intruiging. And I agree with Skaw on the fact that just because in other games certain creatures were Summonable (take your pick..Esper, Summon, Guardian Force...) doesnt mean they are in this game. Case in point, Gilgamseh. Pirate leader here. Boss in FFV. GF in FFVIII. The dude with all the ship cards and a treasure hunter in FFIX. I personally would love to see Alexander or Odin as representations in the Aht Urhgan empire; maybe militia leaders or prominent members of society. Who knows?

Nicolette does raise a very alarming question though (...in an rp sense anyway@alarming), what is Carbuncle having you power up? A little disturbing. I wish I had more to contribute to this thread but i'm a CoP n00b.

But note I <3 Nicolette right now. Avatars and Gods are teh shizznit.
