"I hate Ayn Rand."

I've still never read Ayn Rand, despite my High school best friends being obsessed with her works.

I went through Atlas Shrugged for the first time a couple years ago... never did I think I would see real government similar to the caricature of government outlined in the book.

I wouldn't say it's as true, but it's still as disturbingly idiotic as it was in 1959. I'll gladly keep the public highways, labor laws, health inspections, schools, libraries and all the other benefits of civilization we've bought with our tax money. Fuck Ayn Rand.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: "The Lord of the Rings" and "Atlas Shrugged." One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Halifirien, I may disagree with you on a number of things from time-to-time, but that quote...has got to be the best thing I've read in a while.

For the record, I opted for the orc-stories.
