Its been a long time since Ive touched ninja.. I think its been even before I hit 75 on drk, and then all the way to 75 on blu..

Okay, just need some tips and suggestions on what I should do.. I dont exactly have a lot of time to camp the kote and/or sarutobi kyahan, and I remember trying. Im around 0/30ish on both of them.

I have 200k total gil... No time to farm at the moment, so itll have to do for now.

Gear I have now:

Sai x2 (Im going to go kill the tonberry in ugga soon, maybe his katana will drop)

head: empress pin
body: Jujitsu and Nokizaru Gi
back: lolnomads mantle
neck: spike necklace
hands: enkelados's brace
waist: life and vanguard belt
ear: dodge earrings
rings: woodsman (couldnt get snipers) and venerer
legs: ninja hakama
feet: windurstian kyahan
ranged: lolRogetsurin

Now that gear is out of the way, should I seriously bother with using elemental tools?

Also, what would be good food to take with me?

I just used Dorado Sushi mainly and usually had the elemental tools for Hyoton and whichever was the next cheapest. Barely used them though as the debuffs along with voke and DD was usually enough to keep hate.

Around 60 I had to switched from Dorado to Sole because the hard hitters: DRK, MNK, and RNG took hate a lot. I also stopped using wheel around then too.

Yeah not a bad idea. I just kept the elemental tools incase. Dorado I used because my girlfriend was fishing up Noble Ladies and I had a pile of rice from a mule so it made sense to get her to craft them me.

Sai x2 (Im going to go kill the tonberry in ugga soon, maybe his katana will drop) --- Try to use one of the Yoto+1 and Sai till Kabutowari at lvl 61 (Or if you can get the tonberry katana, but the drop is rather.. meh)

head: empress pin --- Np here
body: Jujitsu and Nokizaru Gi --- I prefer Nokizaru for extra enmity
back: lolnomads mantle --- Throw away that nomad, stick to High breath Mantle 50/50 charge , use dorado at same time and you can keep hate better.
neck: spike necklace --- Get Spirit Torque if you can , eva+5 not much but it helps.
hands: enkelados's brace --- I forgot what hand i used.... but -agi or -eva is bad for nin.. in my opinion >.>
waist: life and vanguard belt --- Stick with Life belt
ear: dodge earrings --- Get the better +eva earring if you can afford it otherwise they are good enough.
rings: woodsman (couldnt get snipers) and venerer --- I have wood and vene, but i never use woods on my Nin due to -eva, stick to Vene and garrulous ring if you have one, or other rings.
legs: ninja hakama --- Kingdom trousers are good till lvl63 when you fight during day time.
feet: windurstian kyahan --- I use these too till certain lvl, np here. Edit: I use Federation Kyahan :P
ranged: lolRogetsurin --- I forget what i use at 52, but at 56 you can use lolbailathorn if you are missing acc.

Food, i seriously recommend Dorado Sushi especially when you combo it with High breath mantle, they make keeping hate a LOT easier.

Ninja tools, the basics suchs as Utsusemi (duh..), Hojo, Kurayami and maybe Jubaku. Keep one stack of Hojo and Jubaku in case Mage are not enfeebling the mob, kurayami you can keep couple stacks. The enfeebling tools generally help you to tank easier, so try to use them.

Ninja tools, elemental wheels like raiton, hyoton etc, start to get outdated as you get to toau areas, but you can keep 2-4 wheels on you till you hit lvl60 where your katana should do more damage than your wheels. I generally use Hyoton line since Tsurara is cheap >.<!.

Those are my suggestion or what i use when i level my ninja, it does not cover the "elite" gears to lvl ninja, so there is much better gears available.

For the kyahan, i never have them and never have problems with it. For hands gear, lvl55 hand gear is a viable option till lvl63 or longer.

Camp Sarutobi Kyahan and Ochimusha Kote. Don't gimp yourself. Use the enfeeble debuffs Ninja gets. Don't really bother using the elemental wheel unless you are having trouble holding hate.

Sell Nomad's Mantle and get High Breath Mantle.
Camp Sarutobi Kyahan and Ochimusha Kote.
Camp Sarutobi Kyahan and Ochimusha Kote.

Basically what everyone else said. Evasion becomes less and less important once you start hitting higher levels. Although, at that point you can still stack on evasion and do quite well, you also lose out on a lot of damage and hate generation. Listen to what Pastry said, if you plan on going to 75, O.Kotes and Fumas will do you good all the way there and are awesome for level caps too. I know it's a lot to do, but try getting a PCC, NIN doesn't get any +acc from job traits or abilities, and you will definately notice the accuracy diminish escpecially on multi hit WS. Don't bother with Enkelados, it's not worth it. I know Jin has a DEX modifier too and the DEX will help accuracy a little, although I cannot say the same about Retsu/Chi, but even still -DEX is bad.

At 55, you can use Royal Knights gear which is really nice for damage and defense when taking hits. I used them full time until I could equip SH which I really needed for accuracy on Colibri (no sushi ; ;). Once you get to Colibri, I used all +acc gear I could full time and the more (except for O.Kotes), the better. This is also when a PCC really shines and since you could be spending a lot of time on Colibri both in exp and merits, it's really worth the buy/BCNM in my opinion. Also, don't hold out for any Uggaleppih Katanas, they are all abysmal drops and it's just easier to get katanas off AH until you get Senju.

Honestly, not to nit pick, but if you only have about 200k, I would leave Ninja alone for now.

Why? Because tools will simply kill you, not to mention your food costs. Gear aside, I would get some more money before taking on that project.

I've read the comments with great interest as I'm picking up NIN again; thanks to all those who responded with thoughful comments.

I'd also second Mistra's post. Your first two stacks of food (assuming you use sushi) are going to consume nearly 25% of your available gil. One reason I waited to level NIN was so I could get myself in a financially stable position to level as I needed, and not stress about the money dropped into gear and tools. Also, over time, I've gotten several key pieces for NIN (that I'll never sell) so as I get the levels to use them, it's not a continued drain on the Crooked-wallet. ;)

Back on topic; sadly (due to my BCNM suckage lately :D ) I see myself purchasing a PCC sooner than later. How long can a self-respecting NIN reasonably go without it?

Actually, I did want to mention one thing. Keep Elemental tools on you for crabs which you'll probably be doing for 2-3 levels more, if you get slow dispellers or none at all, it's a semi-decent way to keep hate and actually do damage when you katanas are hitting for 0. You might not need all of them, but I had full stacks from doing the PCC BCNM sitting around and I wanted to use them up.

tools arent really a problem because I have several stacks of em in MH, I was asking if I should bother with elemental tools because... well, I remember fighting beetles and they would only land for 10s and 20s, and yes, they were in the proper order

Also, thanks for all the helpful comments, everyone. Yesterday for a little while, I was motivated to continue camping Quu Domi and Mee Deggi, which after several claims I still didnt get kote or kyahan, lol.. oh well

from peoples responses, and from leveling in general, Id say until colibri because thats when you cant use food at all. In parties Ive had, I have very little accuracy problems, because I could get to to use, then get 100 more to SC with another person in time.

No, no. You don't just skip food on Colibri, you bring cheap shit. Meat Mithkabobs. Which is the exact reason I suggest you wait to level Ninja. If you're going to gimp out on gear and food, don't play it. This is not me being mean to you, this is me telling you you're going to be a hinderance on your parties if you do. I understand you probably have gear leftover from DRK and BLU, but after reading some of your other threads about your gear choices on either job, I really don't see you forming yourself into well-equipped Ninja.

As for the tools, yeah, you need to have them on hand from 40-55, at the very least. If your nukes were landing for 10-20, something is wrong, or your Ninjutsu skill is far, far from where it should be, because average damage on them is 50~90, with 50 being an extreme low.

Again, I'm not trying to be an ass, but they say Ninja is one of the most expensive jobs to level for a reason. There's a very good reason people frown upon Ninja who selectively play with crappy ass gear and think nothing of it. Sure, I know you're a decent player, but believe it or not, gear does play an important role in that job. You won't always have haste, you won't always have erase even, and you'll need to substantiate. With 200,000 gil, you won't stand a chance at properly equipping yourself.

Just my two cents.

I understand what you mean, but I dont actually plan to level it full time. Maybe if I could get it to 60, that would satisfy me. I know 200k isnt enough to get to 75, so I do plan on BCNM'ing or something to help round up gil.

Also, Ive been motivated again to camp these two birds... So, I hope I get their crap lol

Aye, good luck on that, they can be a pain. Persistance! :)

Wait, since when is a peacock charm standard equipment for a ninja? By the time you hit Colibri you're a half-step away from Chivalrous Chain. Wouldn't that be a far better use of gil at that point? I haven't been having ACC issues in the mid-50's on my ninja, and I'm still using spike...

Also, I'm surprised about the eva+ advice in this thread. There's a reason NIN's abandoned their Scorpion Harnesses for Hauby's. You don't need eva as a NIN anymore, stack STR and ATT and hold aggro through damage done. Comparing my bf's att-nin(60s) to my eva-nin(50s) he always had a much more secure hold on his mobs, it convinced me to switch over to his build and I never looked back.

I fully support using cheap food on colibri's if you aren't MTing it. But when MT'ing a Colibri you'll be popping a food per bird... that's ridiculous. In merit it's different, they die before they get off a Tp move half the time but in the 50's when the bird is likely to get 2-3 off, it's not fair to expect the tank to constantly pop food.

Sure it is, when say, four to five stacks of mithkabobs for a Colibri party costs roughly the same amount of gil as a normal stack of food. Sure, it'll never be widely accepted that people should do this when fighting the damn birds, but it's all the merrier when they do.
