Hello,

I just came back to the game after a 2 year break and I have a few questions that I can't seem to find a good answer too anywhere. I read the returning user's guide posted earlier and looked around at a few places but still had some questions I was wondering if somebody could answer for me.

1st question would be, how do I get into the new areas? I see that there are new towns and teleportation spells but I don't know where to begin to quest for those.

2nd I remember balista, not I'm not familiar with the Campaign or assault? part of the game. What exactly are these.... and does anyone actually participate on a regular basis?

3th Chocobo Raising/Racing I know people have been asking for this since the game came out, but is it any good for anything or is it more of a hobby?

4th Lockers? Is this just storage space you rent?

5th Whats an Adventuring Fellow? Useful for anything?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm sure there are other changes to the game I haven't noticed yet but these are the ones that I'm wondering about at the moment. I would appreciate any answers you could give me.

1. Buy the expansion, and then do the relevant "quests". I.e. to get to Whitegate (ToAU) you need to either bring the NPC 6 subjob items, a coffer key or a testimony.

Whitegate: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/The_Road_to_Aht_Urhgan
The Past: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Wings_of_the_Goddess_Mission_1:_Cavernous_Maws

2. Campaign is the latest expansion's "event", where monsters OR NPCs attack a specific area in an attempt to control it. Think "King of the Hill". "Assault" is basically a series of mini quests/missions.

3. You can actually earn money (after investing a lot into it) for example if you breed/raise a good choco, you can use it out in areas and it will be somewhat faster than a rental chocobo. Also, you can participate in races/mini games to earn gil and items, respectively.

4. Lockers, yes, you "rent" it. Very cheap and easy to maintain. You need Whitegate Access first though.

5. Adventuring Fellow is a "summonable" NPC that fights with you and you can customise it to an extent, such as race, gender, appearance, fight style (job), weapons.

More on that here: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Adventuring_Fellow

I'll take your questions into consideration and will further expand my own "guide" on it.

You can only get a chocobo faster than a rental by doing your chocobo raising activities a specific way, however. And said Chocobo wouldn't be "the best" for activities like digging or doing the hot and cold mini game. Possibly even racing, depending on factors such as frequent ailments/how long it took to teach it abilities before shifting it's diet and training to focus on physical attributes.

Chocobo raising, you're pretty much going to want to raise two. A racer, and one for digging/hot and cold(this one will be your whistle summoned chocobo). I'd recommend raising a digger first, as it's significantly easier(it's a good tutorial for how things work as it's fairly hard to screw it up) and can be done in a lot less time, as well it can add funds for your racer. A great racer is a meticulous process that goes well beyond the 120 or so days you have as a time limit to train and teach abilities.

Yeh, listen to Skaw. I was writing that based on my below average general understanding of how it works. Just a note that it is incredibly expensive and probably time consuming.

It's not too expensive, only a couple thousand gil a day at the most. And basically free if you grow your own chocobo feed. It is very time consuming though, since to do the best you can, you have to check on your chocobo daily. It's only about a 5 minute ordeal for the raising/training part. But after that, the racing qualifications takes quite a bit of time too, as well as the actual races. If you have a solid bird, you can however turn the circuit races in to a decent source of income.

Thanks for the response, if you raise your own chocobo do you have to pay for using chocobos from then on out?

Yes and no. You get a "mini quest" to obtain a whistle you can use to start riding your chocobo in any outdoor area that you can normally ride chocobos in. This whistle only has 20 charges, and takes 1000 gil per missing charge to recharge(eg: 4000 gil if you're 16/20.) However, by playing Hot and Cold, a possible reward for digging up the prize crate is a coupon you can use to recharge your whistle free of cost.

Actually, I'm not sure of the cost to recharge anymore since I no longer play, it's possible that it's lower now.

It's 400 gil a charge now, so 10,000 gil for a complete recharge since the Chocobo Whistle has 25 charges on it.
