Can anyone fill me in on the deal with backwards compatibility on the PS3? Is it unavailable on all the current models, period? Or is there some patch I can download to be able to do it? Not really too keen on the PS3 so any help would be super. Thanks.

I have a PS3 and I don't think I can play PS2 games. The first models could though I believe.

Not at this time. Seeing as the PS2 is still getting sales, I don't think they'll fully re-integrate BC back into PS3s until they finally drop support for PS2, which I think should be the around the end of this year, I'm not 100% sure.

Maybe sales for the PS2 continue because Sony couldn't make up their fucking mind about how to handle backwards compatibility to the point that they just scrapped it entirely. Moronic SOBs. Huge ball dropped.

This is one reason why I will not buy a PS3. I am so pissed off at them for being douchetards about this I cannot stomach the idea. Way to kill off like 85% of my game library. I could keep the PS2 around but space in the old entertainment system setup is lacking. This idea will never make sense to me. So for now its Ps2 only for me as far a a sony system is concerned.

Yeah I still have my old behemoth sized PS2 lying around but it would be pretty cool if I could just tuck it under my bed or something. My room here is hella small. I'm just trying to get things situated before I drop the cash to get myself one.

I've got one of the backwards-compatible earlier ones. I think I used the backwards-compatibility two, maybe three times ever. I don't know, I don't find myself going back to older games like I used to. I think it is because work and school have massacred my gaming time, and the precious free time I get, I don't feel like wasting down memory lane.

Not that I think older games are a waste of time, I'm just saying... you know what I mean.

I have a BC model, but the compatability is ass. Everything I have plays, but it looks terrible compared to my PS2 and the sound is ass as well.

PSX compatability (all models still have it) is terrible too.

Better than nothing, though.

Wow that does suck. I'm glad my ps3 has backwards compatibility. I can't imagine having it without that.

I didn't even get one of the original models. Mine was one of the MGS4 bundle 80 gigs. So far I've had no problems playing ps2 games. Though to be honest I haven't tried ps1 games just yet. I only had problems with one ps2 game and I believe it was an error with the disc or something because I haven't seen it with any other game.
