Balmung
(Great Sword) All Races
DMG: 80 Delay: 480 HP -5% Accuracy +5
Attack +13
Additional effect: "Dispel"
Lv. 70 DRK

Balin's Sword
(Great Sword) All Races
DMG: 84 Delay: 480 MP +13 STR +4 INT +2
Lv. 73 DRK

Was wondering which would be better for DRK.

Its a toss-up. I went with Balin's pretty much because the ONLY time I went Great Sword was when I was /THF for Gods. And really the times you will find yourself using GS it should be for those types of situations. Let it be known, this is coming from a guy who really wishes DRKs would shelve GS unless you have an Algol + Homam Body combo, with the exception of above.

IMO
Algol>Subduer>Balins>Balmung

PS: This will be a little different if you have an Algol.

Algol>Subduer>Balins>Balmung

told someone that last night.. but i wasn't sure.. you'd think the attack on Balmung would even out the lesser dmg than Balin's.. or am I wrong? The delay is same, so not really a loss in hits, the balmung even has the accuracy to prevent the constant missfest of a DRK. But the Dispel? I know that it doesn't activate much.. but i was skilling with this last night, and i was dispelling Crabs, every now and then. With no rdm, it can be slightly useful, no?

(although i do agree that Algol and Subduer kick their asses lol)

Well I think...in an exp party for instance, Balmung may beat out Balin's. But if you were using GS in exp, I would say, why arent you using Scythe. The days of DRKs being forced to use GS in exp are over. So now we can pretty much use whatever does the most DMG, which at 75 (Assuming the lvls you are talking about) you have access to Perdu, and Tred.

But in the instance which I posed above. Pretty much that you are there for a big SC Balin is hands down your winner. Its hard to beat a Souleater>>Last Resort>>SATA >> 300TP GroundStrike for that situation.

These are just my opinions. But, I think most veteran DRKs will agree.

I'd personally go for Balmung even with the lower DMG. The +5 accuracy just appeals to me because I'd be using primarily meat and I'd take any accuracy I can get within reason. However, like Big said, Scythe is preferred for experience anyways.

And DRKs don't miss any more than any other job. The have the same skill ratings as most other jobs (A+ Scythe, A- GS) and similar dexterity. Even their gear choices are actually very good, many of which have lots of accuracy.

The dispel added effect is likely to be mostly just a small perk. Added effects on most weapons tend to only process very minimally on normal experience mobs and a bit more on weaker mobs. Think of the Cruel Sword and Scythe, that's how often the dispel will probably kick in, every few fights so it's nothing to make your basis off.

I'm not a DRK, but I assume Balin's would be better than Balmung on anything that requires sushi. 4 damage is a pretty nice bonus. Otherwise, if you're using meat, I'd go with Balmung, 5 accuracy is 5 accuracy, and you also get that nice boost in ATK which isn't all that bad on top of meat.

Balin's over Balmung. The only weapon skill for GS you should use is Spinning Slash and the Balin's is geared for that. Also, if you sort AH by damage, Balin's rules over all.

Ground Strike ftl?

When you would be required to use GS for events you will probally be using Spinning Slash to make light sc.

Cuz, you know. Ground Strike doesn't close light.

Yeah but who wants a drk even closing up a sc =p, hehe I'm not even a drk I just usually do Spinning Slash to Tachi: Kasha.

Ground Strike is only really useful at 300%, so yeah...

I'd say go with Balin's, barring you have proper acc gear and such to be able to eat meat. If you think you may be a little lacking in acc still, go with Balmung.

A fully buffed Ground Strike will be better then Tachi:Kasha, hands down.

I was talking about how as a SAM I would normally sc as Spinning Slash >>> Tachi:Kasha to make light.

This.

If you don't have an Algol, thats ok. For the longest time I wasn't able to get one myself. ;;

If you don't have an unlocked subduer, I'm gonna consider you a lazy drk.

And if for any reason you use balmung over Balins at 75, you're gimp. Go away.

Btw, Auron. Spinning Slash is the single best ws in the game at 100 tp. Take your Kasha and cry in your corner. Spinning Slash closes better :P

Pretty much everything Tyrath said. Especially with the SS > Kasha. I've *never* seen a SATA Kasha beat a SATA SS, and this was back when SATA was the cool thing to do, and Drks got invites when they weren't seeking just for SS.

I haven't been saying Kasha was better then Spinning Slash I was saying that it's most common to be doing light with Kasha and Spinning Slash not Kasha and Ground Strike...

balin's, slightly better. barring low acc situations.

the balmung even has the accuracy to prevent the constant missfest of a DRK.

If your having a "missfest" at 75, there is something wrong.

Other than that, stop using a great sword. Back when it was cool to sub thf, I always got better numbers with spiral hell than ground strike at 300%. But I haven't subbed thf on drk in probably over two years, so maybe that changed. Only time I should ever see a GS in your hand is if your there for light sc.
