I duly hope (and think) this will go the way of "x # of hours online access" as implemented by Prodigy/AOL/Compuserve back in the day. It didn't work then, I highly doubt it will work now.

Also, wtf? Beaumont, TX? If anything, that city NEEDS more people to buy High-Speed services.

edit: just read it's Time Warner Cable. FUCK TIME WARNER AND COMCAST. Cable sucks dingaling, and DSL is king.

I read that the other day, I can't see how it's going to catch on. One thing that I'm curious about, that they didn't report about, is how online gaming would play into this. When you're playing, you're constantly sending information back and forth; so I'm curious just how much that adds up to over a month.

Time Warner sucks anyways, but this is just going too far. It's a fast, cheap and shitty way for them to deal with bandwidth problems, without actually improving their service or spending any money.

At 1000 bytes/second in 30 days assuming you were logged in 24/7:
2.5 gigabytes of usage received.

DSL is not better than FiOS! I may move back to Chattanooga over the next 5 years. Electric Power Board has resolved to run fiber to every home in their service area!

So, at the standard rate, that'd be half of your usage right there. Obviously you wouldn't be on all the time, but if you play a lot or if you have higher transfer rates(games only send 1KB/sec?) then it could seriously eat into your allotment.

Also, wouldn't things like youtube and other video services cut a lot into that bandwidth cap? And what about legit bittorent usage? Some shows do allow you to download them, I'm sure it'd cause a problem with that. And like others have said, games. With more things going online and taking more bandwidth, I don't think people will want to bother watching their usage and would rather just go to another service provider. But who knows.

Well, in a perfect world, we'd all have Fiber running straight into our houses.

That said, is it really fiber running directly to the house, or is it running to a series of switches that then disperses the much-faster fiber connection to the masses?

I really want FiOS, but they won't have it here for a very long time.

DSL here is terrible. I used it for over a year and comcast is much more stable for me.

I would think it would be overall better though since you get a dedicated line.

I know as soon as AT&T and Verizon rolled into Dallas with their fiber services, TWC's customer base got cut at least in half. If they try to spread this experiment out, they'll probably lose the other half too.
