Barack Obama 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner... wait, wtf?

Just because we both have Chris Farley avatars doesn't mean we agree, sir.

Edit: Also note how I spoke of his lack of work and the fact that he was NOMINATED. I then listed three big names that didn't do shit for peace and where nominated aswell. To round it all off, I said the above size7'd print. {All right!} Reading comprehension!

Like Tomasello, you're trying to equate being nominated for an award and actually being seriously considered for it or even winning it. They are not the same. That's like saying Mickey Mouse was a viable presidential candidate because some schmuck added him as a write-in candidate.

I let it slide the first time cause I like you but your being completely ridiculous..... Being NOMINATED for an award is NOT BEING SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED for it???? You can't be serious. Then why the hell would you nominate the person? Last time I checked they have, I don't know, 6 BILLION people to choose from! So they nominate people who have zero chance to win???

Oh and the people saying, "he won the award for what he's GOING to do" is even more idiotic. Last time I checked I never won an award for something I had an intention of doing.... I'm glad Obama won the nobel. Before this happened I didn't realize what a pathetic joke of an award it was and now my eyes are opened.

No, it's not the same as being seriously considered. Maybe if you're talking about the Academy Awards where they narrow the list to five contenders and everyone gets the "Oh, it's an honor just to be nominated" vibe going in their advertising. That doesn't apply here.

So your basically saying an acadamy award nomination should be taken more seriously than a nobel peace prize nomination.....

LMAO! Yeah ok, what ever you say. Your still my favorite fisherman.

I would, yes. One nomination actually means something (in the entertainment industry, at least) and the other carries no weight.

Am I? This happened a couple days ago:

http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/BO126794/

In New England of all places..... (AND NO IT WASN'T ME!)

Taken from that article:

Police along with the Secret Service are investigating after a local country club discovered a symbol that represents eastern religious beliefs carved into the green.

Lakeville Country Club workers discovered the vandalism early Monday morning.

Police believe the vandals meant to carve a swastika next to President Barack Obama's name on the 18th hole; however, the symbol was backwards and means hope and peace in some Eastern countries.

Actually the swastika goes either way, the nazi party used the right facing form on a tilted angle, but both what the nazi's used and that symbol up there are both swastika's

Right, but the symbol that is widely recognized with the Nazi party, is a swastika at a 45 degree angle. The image carved in the field isn't, so I'm not sure why Tom brought it up.

No, that's a swastika.

They are all swastikas. That's the name of the symbol

No, that's a swastika.

The Nazi swastika was a right-facing swastika.

The left facing swastika, also sometimes referred to as a sauvastika, has the same array of meanings you find with the swastika, of course, but most of them are good luck.

Or maybe they were irate Japanese mapmakers trying to mark the future location of a buddhist temple they expected Obama to build?

I'm glad you two agree with me then.

Never said they weren't, I was just pointing out the meaning of them. But whatever floats your boat.

From the Olympics, to Politics and focus on the evil Obama for the millionth time to Obama winning the Peace Prize which there's another thread for. Then to Obamas relation to Nazi Germany to which way the traditional and bastardized Swastika faced ...

I was lost a long time ago but seems I've found my way.

Who cares where the Olympics are held, gives a bit of a moral boost.

I believe what you are looking for, is the phrase "I declare this thread to be Godwin'd."

Godwin'd by page 7. I think that may well be a QCDN record.

Damn nazis with their symbol, can't even get it right.

Explainer:

Taurothar's quote below was the original thread starter. I split some posts off of a different thread and merged them with this one.

I heard about this and instantly thought it was a gag. I was certain it was a misinterpreted Onionesque article that somehow leaked into legitimate news sources. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

I mean, the guy's not the second coming, but he's also not the worst president in recent memory. I just don't understand how someone not 1 year into his term, not really successful in anything he's attempted to get done, gets a prestigious award for successfully bringing world peace a large step closer. His foreign policy hasn't really gotten any results worth writing home about, and he didn't suddenly cure the tension between the Muslim nations and America/the West.

Could someone enlighten me as to what the hell was so impressive about his contributions to deem him worthy of such accolade?

Tell me what more likely than not happened:

1) Peace loving Obama supporters strolled onto a golf course to express their compassion and support for Obama on the 18th green with a peaceful symbol; or

2) Racists scumbags, most likely high school drops outs and too stupid to know which way the swastika goes, broke into a golf course in the middle of the night to vandalize private property and express their ignorant views.

(And I brought it up because it happened right around the time my discussion with Hal about grasping at big Hitler-flavored straws was going on.)
