Yankees signed Mark Teixeriea 8 yrs/170 mil. CC, and AJ Burnett.

That is just sick and unholy. Baseball is broke, and not worth watching. I have to spend another year watching Sportscenter spooge over the Yankees every 5 seconds. Take a page from the NFL, MLB. It's fun and any given team, any given year can win.

Yeah i just heard this shit. Horrible. While lately for the Yankees/Mets, paying hasn't translated into wins, it has diluted the talent pool for other teams which makes me sick. Also, Yankees are still in the running for Manny... UGH.

So everyone on the Yankee's payroll makes 10 mil or more...They will go over 300 mil this year...while teams like my Braves only spend 84 mil a year (top 5-6 payroll, but look at that gap) and teams like Tampa only have 50 million payroll...

Yeah... I'm a Sox fan and I try to stay objective... but this is getting ridiculous. The Sox have gone to a more "small ball" style of organization, growing our own players, etc. and Tex was the one big free agent they were seriously considering. That big bat to protect Big Papi, etc. It's silly... the Sox, Angels, Nats, and O's were all playing a bit of a mind game with Boras and each other, seeing who might throw up a few mil more, and the Yankees just swoop in and drop an extra 20mil..... /sigh

So does that mean cheapseat tickets for Yankees games are about $100 a head?

Needs a cap. Having a team in New York isnt fair because the revenue to be gained is off the charts from a city like that.

Yankees have the 4 highest paid athletes in baseball.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU

Seriously though, this is horse shit.

TBH as much as i hate the Yankees... i disagree with a salary cap. If they are willing to try and buy their wins... let them

I disagree as well. Tampa Bay Devil Rays, enough said.

Yea, seeing my Rayes beat out the Yankees and Red Socks pretty much gave me the biggest sports-hard on of my life, next to being in Gainesville when the Gators won the football national championship.

Still...something like 425 million this year in free agent spending...its just fucking ridiculous.

i don't even watch baseball and I'm like: :shok:

how do they get away with shit like that?

Nothin' to it really. If you make money, you get to spend money.

Please cry more...

As Strid put it, make more money and you can spend more.

The Yankees did absolutley nothing wrong here. They simply picked up the people they wanted... There is nothing to "Get away" with, as there is nothing wrong.

You complain but do not mention they are still about 20 Million dollars under last years payrole. Would you like to get pissed off further by watching them sign say a Manny Ramirez and then be equal to last years payrole?

What you should bitch at is the owners who do absolutley NOTHING for their franchises. Take Minnesota for a great example. Their owner is the richest owner in American sports. Yet he refuses to sign the players his own damn team develops once they become big time players... The latest and greatest example is Johan Santana. How the fuck do you let this guy slip away as a Minnesota owner and the richest in sports? Now that shit pisses me off.

We have a new stadium coming right in the middle of a finacial crisis. The Yankees better damn well do something to make me want to spend my money for them. They did just that as i can assure you i will be purchasing a new Sabathia and Texeira jersey this year.

Ah, Osyris. Glad to see you finally show your face. Remember last year? I told you that you wouldn't make the playoffs? And you didn't?

I'll tell you what, ANYTHING short of a World Series title is a complete and total failure. Maybe we won't see you around so much again if your team tanks and chokes again. You know, there are 8 year olds who have never seen the Yankees win a world series??? BWA HA HA HA HA HA!

Just to add there were people who lived and died an average human life without seeing the Redsox win a championship and Cubs fans need to live longer then an expected human life to see it happen... Hurts me inside to think about those geezers.

Now back on topic.

Cry more...

lol you love your sports :P

Also, I agree somewhat. Some owners could spend more, but most settle with making a shit ton and not worrying about the state of their franchise.

They still have to pay a luxery tax for spending over a X amount of money. Major league baseball was investigating teams such as the pittsburg pirates for getting their share of this money the yankees had to pay out to the other teams. They found out a majority of the teams were just pocketing the money. You got to spend money to make money. Try having the pirates in your area and the failing for the last what, 20 years? Teams like the royals, pirates have become farm teams to the major teams such as the yankees, angels, red sucks err socks because they have a market. Along with the obvious money, the yankees provide history ranging from Ruth to Donny Baseball. if you actually watch baseball, even visiting teams are in aww of yankees stadium and the tradition. Who wouldn't take the money and the opportunity to play on the biggest stage in major league baseball?

Pittsburgh Pirates pseudo-fan here, and all of this is true. I have a friend who works for Aramark, a big sponsor for the Pirates, who's Dad is also a much higher up in the company. He has told me on multiple occasions that the Pirates owners make way more money being basement dwellers than they do winning games. It sickens me to even think about it, but people still buy Pirates gear, and PNC Park is usually sold out every Friday and Saturday night game. They'll still put 17,000 in the seats on weekday against the Reds. It blows, and I don't see it becoming any better in the future.

P.S. It's been 16 years since they've had an above .500 season.

Carl Pohlad is the owner of the Minnesota Twins. He was 78th place in the USA as far as rich people go... Thats according to forbes. He is by far the richest owner in sports.

The Minnesota Twins are opening a new stadium in 2010. The stadium is said to cost up to 600Million and 2/3s will be payed by tax payers.

These tax payers have absolutley NOTHING and NOONE on their team to pay to see... Add to that pay tax for... When they gave up Santana for what would be change to the owner... That was disgusting to me.

Pretty much a home grown talent who happens to be, maybe, the best pitcher of our generation... He traded Santana for basically a bag of balls and a fast child in center field.. This is just one of the many articles to follow the deal...

http://blogs.forbes.com/sportsmoneyblog/2008/01/twins-owner-mus.html?partner=whiteglove_google

Now what you feel is your prerogative.. For me, it is disgusting to see owners pocket all their teams profit and charge fans to see minor league players. I am in no way upset with Steinbrenners continuing to do what they allways have, spend money to please fans.

EDIT: I need to edit because its not that the twins have nothing to see... As they have two of the greatest players in the game at the moment in Morneau and Mauer. Trust me tho in 2011 when Mauer is a free agent he will be coming to either the Yanks, Sox or Mets. No way the owner pays up for an MVP cather who could be the best we have ever seen. Hopefully you get my point about how i hate this pocketing money shit.

As much as the Osyris guy is a fuckin ridiculous homer-baller, he has one good point. At least the Yankees put the money into their franchise. Their organization isn't worth that much more than the Red Sox, but unfortunately my Sox don't pour that kind of money into the team even though they're making millions and millions off a fanatic fanbase.

Oh well.

You think the Redsux are going to let Pedroia get away in free agency when the time comes? Or Leonidas? I am sure they will invest to keep these home grown talents on their team.

Shit like what Minnesota does pisses me off so much. Glad you agree with me Shyrra tho i dont know what a homer-baller is... You calling me a Troy aikman??? :p
