Bastok Fame

Well I'm trying to get my fame up to Avatar Prime level in a easy/profitable way. I've found good ways to do it in Windy and Sandy but am still stuck as to what to do in Bastok. I'm all about repeatable quests that yeild some amount of gil with easy mobs who drop the required item at a decent rate. I'm curently a level 43 SMN/WHM and any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you know of such a quest can you please give me the name of the Quest and/or name of the NPC that gives the quest? Thanks so much!!

Go to Beaduex and get qudav helms....you need a little fame to get the quest but that shouldn't be hard.

The NPC in the Mines district, he's a galka leaning on a wall in a stairwell.

Thats really a vague question, there are mobs that con IT++ to me in the deeper regions, that con DC to 70-ish players (coffer key mobs and the ones that drop pld and blm testimonies for Genkai V). In the first area though, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

well, at one point i had crap bastok fame, but after doing a few minor quests (i ended up doing the one that you have to get the tear thing from the river in north gusta, and a few other newbie quests) i had enough fame to do the quest i wanted to do for farming purposes. You get it from a galka in the Mines district, over in the slums, on the lower level in one of the houses. He looks like he is wearing a bowl on his head. He gives you a repeatable quest that entails you just bring him any silver name tags you find, and you will receive 550G in return. I use this for a little supliment to my gil when i am farming in Palborough Mines *realizes he can't use the autotranslator function on the forums ><* I'm not sure how much fame it wields, but since i farm there all the time, a little fame adds up after a while, i'm pretty well known in bastok now.

The only problem with the silver necklace quest is that you can only carry one of them at a time, while you can stockple the helms.

When I needed it for the WARP scroll quest, I did those 2 in the Bastok Markets area - one of them is a woman in a house (a few doors down from Goldsmith guild) asks for 4 Flintstones (it is repeatable, but you can only do it once a day) and right near her house is another woman, outside who asks you to get a copper ring to her daughter (who is in Bastok mines I believe) she gives you a fire crystal (but you can buy the ring at the nearby jewelry shop) this one is also repeatable - but you can only do it once a day. (well, once a FFXI day, anyway)

I did this also alot and make sure you sub thf cause they drop better. But your major problem here would be the Gil sellers. They get greedy and try too take everyone. I have competted against the Fox clan, Furyrush, and a few more gil sellers there for these. I would do the examine trick over and over again on one just too piss him off. /c name, works pretty well. Anyway I kinda got off subject. Have a spell ready too grab one quick if you go this way.

Yes, it is repeatable. A stack of Quus will be 1000 to 1200 gil. You make 500 Gil per Quus, so it is profitable. This is how I have been making a lot of my money to work on my crafting. I do not know how many it will take to reach the fame level you are looking for, as I have lost count of how many times I’ve done it.

It is very handy if you have Warp and have completed the Mog House Quest that allows you to exit to any area.

1 ) Set your Home Point in the Upper Mog House Entrance of Bastok Markets. (It will make more since once you look at your map.)
2 ) Enter the Mog House and exit back out to Bastok Mines
3 ) Run to the Light House
4 ) Trade Quus to the ??? and Kill Bernie
5 ) Warp back to Bastok Markets
6 ) Run to NPC near magic shop to turn in the Clock.
7 ) Warp Back to Bastok Markets (If you have enough MP, If not just Run back its not that far).
8 ) GOTO step 2

It is very boring, but effective.

-Bubbly Bernie: like Pascal mentioned, repeatable but you need to zone each time to get the woman to give you the quest again (though I'm sure this is a lot less annoying for someone with Warp--I didn't have it at the time so it drove me bonkers).

-Flint stones: the problem with this one is that the woman only takes them once per game day. Not just from you, but from anyone on the server. It's like a freaking HNM of lowbie quests, and not worth it IMO.

-"Gourmet": this is the one where a woman asks you to bring her a special ingredient for her cooking. She's in Bastok Mines. The reward depends on the time of day--she takes wild onions, treant bulbs, and sleepshrooms. Don't remember the time of day offhand ><--I think you need to zone out to be able to repeat this one too.

-Zeruhn (sp?) soot: one of the Galka near the entrance to the mines will take 3 pinches of this. I was trying out some new jobs around the time when I was leveling Bastok fame so this is what I did. Between that and the time I spent mining there when I was leveling smithing, I've come to hate that place with a vengeance.

If you do decide to Berniefy your Bastok fame though, let me know, because I have bajillions of quus on one of my mules, so I'll mail you some.

When I was building fame for the Prime fights, the Quadav helms put me over the top. There is always the selbina moss quest as well.

Fame: Selbina Moss, spend 160,000g and buy 20 stacks of moss, take it to the sheep dude in selbina and make most of your money back. If you buy em at the Auction house for 8,000g/stack or less you only lose about 16,000g total. Or you could run cabbage, in that case you will make about 30 gil per run...

Another quest that is good is the Zinc Ore quest for the Tenshudo, I believe it adds Fame to both tenshudo, and Bastok.

If you have a blm leveled Sabia I would definitely recommend the bubbling bernie quest. I usually buy my Quus in one of the other cities (have gotten it for as little as 400/stack and have never paid more than 600/stack...again...not buying it in Bastok. Even if you don't have warp pick up some Quus and this quest and whenever you're going back and forth doing other quests take a lil detour to do this one. One stack of Quus nets 6k (6k-400g=nice profit) I need to check out the Quadav helm one next time i'm in Bastok.

I'd probably go with the bernie quest or the quad helm quest if you are looking for profit. What I did to get fame was to trade in the zinc I got while mining so I could get utsusemi. I think I will do the quad helm one when I get thf to 45.

Yeah, Bernie is a pretty good repeatable, just have someone kill Bernie, while you zone in and out and trade the clock.

Also, something I caught that was pretty funny to me, regarding all the 1337 speakers!

I dunno, I kinda just laughed out loud with that. :lol:

I also recommend the Selbina quest where you bring boyhada moss to the NPC by the sheep. Spend a lot of the moss, and you get 600 gil back per moss you turn in. I did that for an hour or so, with NO fame in Bastok and Sandy...Now I am maxed out everywhere. Thanks, Boyhada Moss! :wink: *ding

But Bastok still sucks.
