Did anyone else pick this up? I have to say, its weird watching batman as an anime, but its pretty damn awesome.

Its a bit like the Animatrix (if youve seen it.) Its a film made up of shorts, each directed by someone different. Also like the animatrix, its supposed to help flesh out the story of Batman between the movies Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I highly suggest you watch it if youre even remotely interested in Batman.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, but Netflix hit me with the dreaded "Long Wait" notice for it and sent Meet the Spartans instead.

omg lol, that's harsh man... Especially since they sent Meet the Spartans.... That's terrible

I also want it because they've got Kevin Conroy doing Batman's voice, and that's just pure geek bliss. I'm a big fan of Batman: The Animated Series, so it's next to impossible to imagine anyone else doing the voice... although Ron Pearlman was good in the Justice League game.

yeah I have to agree with you about Batman TAS. Thats got to be the best batman voice Ive heard.

Finally got the disc from Netflix and watched it yesterday. Very good, and not a stinker in the entire slate of stories.

saw this last week via torrents, movie is sick

Hey.. I gotta admit, I DID laugh when Leonidas hit his son with a steel chair.

I haven't seen Gotham Knight yet, but from what I've seen and heard, I am looking forward to checking it out.

On a side note, at the risk of derail, a somewhat more enjoyable 300 parody is 305. It started as a YouTube short combining 300 and The Office, and someone gave them enough money to make a full movie. It's not great, but it has a quirky charm to it. I had fun because it looked like they were having fun.

To reel it back in, seeing Gotham Knight inspired me to finally order the last two volumes of Batman: The Animated Series from Amazon. They're on sale for $18 each at the moment. Not a bad deal, although they must be out of stock because expected shipping time is "two to five weeks."

I actually didn't much care for most of them and was rather sad to see no north american animators participating. Batman is a VERY north american series and I don't know why they had to go with an all Anime Series. Yes having Conroy was awesome but that's about where the fan service ended. I thought it would of been better to have the TAS crew do a longer cartoon in it. This felt way too much like Animatrix for comfort - minus having the moving "Second Renaissance" storyline making me want to pop it in over and over again. All the stories felt very superficial - I think a lot of people are very forgiving with this just because it's 'anime'.

I really disliked the first story with the kids a lot - it would of been far more clever to have it from a criminal perspective since Batman chose his persona to scare them - not kids. Through out the comic/movie history of Batman, he's actually been extremely friendly to kids in trouble, seeing a lot of his past in them.

As a person who's read batman for most of my life, I don't know - I was really disappointed.

Edit: If you want to see some great Animated Batman save your money here and invest it in Mask of the Phantasm or the Animated Series.

I agree it's not the greatest Batman experience, but it's an interesting experiment to see how anime artists tackle it.

The criminal perspective story was done in the animated series, though. It's an episode called "Almost Got Him."

Yeah but it really wasn't an episode about the common criminal batman experience.

I wouldn't of minded a mix of Anime and American style animation - I was just left rather disappointed.
