Well, I tried my first BCNM yesterday and failed miserably twice.
I think I misunderstood what Kiting is supposed to be for a Red Mage. Basically, at the start of battle I cast Gravity on the right Lizard and then tried my best to stay out of range while healing my two warriors - Frostmourne and Lejes. Unfortunately Gravity wasn't enough and every time I tried to cast Cure II the damn lizard was on top of me, taking fat chunks of my HP.
I think my concept of kiting was warped from WoW, where hunters keep a mob slowed but unbound and just run in front of it, occasionally pausing to hit it with an arrow.
After watching some video following the loss of 60 seals and 600xp, I think I understand what I was doing wrong, and would like some affirmation of the strategy I want to employ when I go back for revenge.
I was under the impression that Bind had diminishing returns when cast on the same mob - i.e. that if it lasts for 20 seconds the first time, it will last 15 or 10 seconds the second time and then basically be worthless after that because the mob will unbind as soon as you finish casting. Is this wrong? I watched some videos and it seems that the idea is to keep the second lizard permanently bound while healing the warriors - Gravity is not meant to be the general debuff but only to give me a few seconds to recast bind when it comes unbound.
So the idea is, at the start of battle Elemental Seal + Bind, Gravity, then heal the warriors until the lizard unbinds, rebind, and go back to healing. Does this sound right?
