What you guys have to remember though is that BST lives by different rule than partying jobs.

Is 4 dex gonna make a huge difference when your'e fighting IT++ mobs? Hell no. But it'll make a significant improvement when you're only fighting EM-T mobs on a regular basis.

First of all, Dexterity has no clear Accuracy equivilance like Strength and Vitality do to their respective stats. You, much like most of the Final Fantasy XI community, would rather hit for crap damage than actually do any form of damage.

Second of all, you obviously don't know how enmity works in this game. You don't see Paladins with enmity gear trying to get extra damage, you see them stack on the enmity+ gear. Why is this? You get more enmity per hit than you do based on total damage done per hit (even if you hit for 0 damage, you still get the enmity bonus).

Accuracy is not an issue on EM/T mobs, and if anyone tells you otherwise, they're probably the same type of person who would reccomend using dual Sniper's Rings and eat Sole Sushi at the same time (in any normal EXP situation). Sushi has ruined this game beyone belief.

Just because someone is high level doesn't exactly make them very knowledgable about what they're talking about - look at just about every endgame Bard (I personally only know of four good Bards on the whole server) or Red Mage (I only personally know of two good Red Mages on the whole server) and you'll know exactly what I mean.

Sure, have fun with your +4 DEX. Keep in mind that +STR rings raise your damage curve, whereas Dexterity hasn't even been proven to give you any sort of an accuracy bonus (current tests have shown that +2 DEX = About .2% accuracy... point two percent - that means it was probably just chance, anyhow). Sure, you'll see that level 66 Dark Knight praising his Deft Rings and telling everyone that DEX = ACC, but guess what - he's a $%*^ing gimp.

Don't take my word for it if you don't want to, you'll be the one soloing. But the only person I'd honestly take advice from about Beastmaster is No2Wookie, who is a member of the GameFAQs forum. He's working on an excellent guide currently, and the GameFAQs forum community is known for not tolerating gimps. I do so believe that in his guide, he suggests STR and CHR rings for macroing. And just to further pull a high level, knowledgable card (which seems to be the reason you're all agreeing with him, or maybe it is just because he's in the same linkshell as Sabia; you guys are too scared to be mean to her for some weird reason)... he's level 75.

Forgive me for being a naive blm and asking then: what's the point of Dex rings then on a bst? Raising chance on a critical hit? I'd wear str rings as bst, but I really don't want to do any more damage than I currently am, as sometimes you have to use a DC pet and hate management can be more of a hassle. The only time I'd like to macro in str rings is when I'm doing the closing WS for the kill.

Again, forgive me. I know next to nothing about melle stats..

Honestly, I don't believe bullshit until I do the tests myself. Anyone can post information on a forum saying this or that, but until I test it for myself or run additional testing (If I think their experiment was done wrong) I don't say anything as truth. I personally have tried both DEX rings and STR rings, I've tried one DEX and one STR ring even, still, the best performance I personally got with BST was using DEX rings.

Perhaps the effect on them was negligable, but it's the results I got had me beating down that last sliver of the mob faster than the wiff fests I'd see without them (which usually resulted in my death). '

Furthurmore, I'd like to see the arguments you have against DEX gear raising accuracy. I've seen no debate, no testing done to prove that DEX doesn't improve accuracy. However, I have seen documentation saying that DEX does improve accuracy. Perhaps you could post a link to the tests done? Or the documentation proving this? I'll have a look over them and decide for myself if they are conclusive or not.

As far as people listening to me. Well, it might be that I'm a higher level BST, and a damn successful one I might add, but it could be more that I'm a somewhat known and respected player around here. But I can damn sure tell you that the reason they listen to me ISN'T because I act like a dick to those who are offering others advice, respectfully disagree, yes. But certainly not acting like a dick.

As far as rings go I always used MP+ or STR. Which ones I used was totally depending on the area in which I would be leveling and my strategy for taking down the mobs. Always, but this is obvious, I'd use CHR rings for the charming. I only reached LV 45 though.

So what's the purpose of DEX anyway? Regardless, if you knew anything about how BST works you would understand that Yes, you want to hit for "crap damage".

That's just wrong. I've spent enough time fighting with a pet to know that as long as it's hitting for 60dmg and I'm hitting for 40dmg that the mob isn't going to turn to me. Yes, a PLD can have enmity bonus gear that will increase the hate he gets per action. But that's enmity+ gear. What's the point of even considering it for BST.

Accuracy is always an issue. Tuna Sushi is THE food for BST. It gives a nice CHR boost, +15% acc and a nice DEX boost. Almost as if there's some connection between DEX and ACC you think?

Sure, you'll see that level 66 Dark Knight praising his Deft Rings and telling everyone that DEX = ACC, but guess what - he's a $%*^ing gimp.

A Lvl 66 DRK wearing Deft rings IS a gimp. There's better +DEX rings out there. He should use those instead.

The GameFAQ's forum? You're kidding.

Just for the record, I use one each of STR & DEX for meleeing. I need the STR to compensate for my Humeness. Lecan needs the DEX to compensate for his Elvaanness. You obviously need to +INT rings, earrings, belts, and anything else you can get.

Ouch. Lolol.

So, I'm a tarutaru. Would you recommend 1 STR and 1 DEX? I was thinking about doing that since survival belt gives so much accuracy anyway and I RARELY miss these days.

I'm a hume and since I've started using the DEX+ rings, I've noticed that I miss a lot less. At least for Humes, I prefer these to STR+ rings. Thanks for the tips everyone.

Quick question... how do you get over your beastmaster rage without killing those who piss you off? Cuz I've come so close twice in the last two days..

Yesterday, I'm leveling beastmaster in the lvl50ish lizard room in crawler's nest. Sure, people are sometimes in there farming, leveling their NPC's, no problem. Got about 4k exp and about 90k of goods, log off, eat dinner, log on, and there's two parties there. I have no problem with that. There were a few pets and a few lizards to kill. Later, all the lizards were gone so I told the party that I have no choice but to kill the saplings and that they do have AoE and sleepga (I said it a little meaner than that for sure, but anyway). I assumed they could watch out for it a little. They get hit with AoE and sleepga and /disgust me. Not my fault. Anyway, knowing that there'd be no solution I just left and went somewhere else. A lot frustrating (I rarely see parties in here), but I let the rage slither away and I'm fine.

Today, I return, and there's a guy leveling his NPC. No problem. That's fine. I got a ton of exp and make a lot of money. I get to 600tnl and a second beastmaster, four levels higher than me, camps right on top of me and proceeds to kill the two witch hazels that I converted into EM's for pets, and rapes everything in town. Completely oblivious to the fact that I might be trying to level up.

With the guy leveling up his NPC and this new bst, I don't see another lizard for like 10 minutes (that isn't taken)... So, I log off.

I can expect this sort of shit from somebody who's never played beastmaster, but a bst stealing a bst's camp is another thing entirely. Not to mention this guy was 4 levels higher than me AND he killed my EM pets because... there was nothing left to kill.

I'm so tempted to just dump every lizard I can successfully find on his ass, but bst tend to be able to take links quite well and he has an NPC. I had to log off just to avoid blowing up.

So, how the hell do you cope with shit like this. I've never run into as inconsiderate of a bst in my whole time leveling from 1-50.

I made a thread speculating things on Alla a while back.

In short, I was concerned that since there seems to be an uprising of new BST's that it would be entirefly forseeable that the idiot players a lot of BST try to get away from by soloing are going to start playing the job, and thus doing exactly as you described above.

There's really nothing you can do about it short of breaking the ToS and whatnot, which I wouldnt' recommend. Always take the higher road, it's the BST way. No need to tarnish our reputations more with all that retribution stuff.

As far as the party, well. Technically it was your fault. If you see a party in a camp you don't stay there. End of story. BST + nearby parties do not mix, and camping even near them you should have known would be a bad idea (especially fighting mobs that have nasty AOE like sleepga).

Yeah, that's basically why I left. If they had set camp on top of me while I was there it'd be a different story, but they came while I was eating dinner, so there wasn't anything I could do about it.

Man this topic keeps dropping to page 2..

Quick question. Do you have to be wearing your AF the whole fight for +charm duration to stay active? Or does it stay active from the time that a pet is initially charmed? Cuz if not, it'd seem like a dumb decision to wear some of the great melle gear. Just curious. Thanks.

If I remember correctly (there was a test done on this very same subject a few months ago) it was found that +charm takes in effect when you charm the mob, so you can remove whatever gear (af for instance) you have on and put on standard melee gear. Check around on the BSt forums at Alla, mind's a bit foggy on the subject (been so long since I worried about it, heh).

But meh, really, our pets do most of the work. My standard melee gear has most of my AF included anyway so I don't switch to the hardcore stuff unless I'm in a party.

Cool thanks.

I like some of the melle gear for it's str and attack stats, but in most cases the AF would seem good enough. I just don't want my pet turning on me. I haven't had it happen to me since I picked up AF gloves and feet, but that fear is always in the back of my mind from earlier leveling sessions. hehe

Hehe, I wouldn't worry about it my friend. I haven't had a pet turn on me mid battle since.... well.. probably level 35 or so.

If you're really really worried about your pet turning just leave and recharm. It'll still have its TP and whatnot and assuming it isn't a tough mob to charm (ie: slimes) you'll have "reset the charm timer" as I say. Basically meaning that even if your mob was gonna uncharm, it won't do so any time soon now.

Yeah. That works too. Lately I've been sending off weak bats that I know will die to weaken the mob and then using an EM to finish the fight. Still getting chain #3 that way, so I'm satisfied. Or I jump between two EM pets if I know one is about to catch AM in the grill ^^

Damn this topic has dropped to page 4 now...

Quick question. Just something I never understood. Irks me a little bit, but doesn't make me want to mpk the person or anything. Here goes:

I was in Ulluguran Range leveling for about 3 hours the other day. Converted 2 rabbits to EM and was laying waste to tiger after tiger after tiger. I take a break, log back on, and there's another 59bst camping where I was camping before. No problem. This has happened before. So, as there were 2 EM rabbits at the camp, I ask <Team Up?> and the guy shoots out a load of japanese text basically explaining how he's playing solo right now.

He was killing DC->T bats and worms for decent exp, but a few hours earlier I was getting great exp killing tigers in a duo as well as getting great exp off tigers in a solo. So, I said:

<I don't understand...><Team up?><Tiger><Experience points><Up>!!

to which he said:

<I'm playing solo right now>

Finally, after staring at him for five minutes, I converted two more rabbits to EM and went after tigers again by myself. No biggie. Every now and then we both shot each other a /cheer, but on my side it was a bit of a grumpy "we could be getting better exp" cheer.

The guy stayed for at least 1.5 hours, maybe longer. What I don't understand is why any bst in their right mind would turn down a duo when there are literally a dozen T mobs around and more than enough charmable pets. We were both lvl 59 at the time (now I'm 60, and he's still 59).

The only thing I can think of is a) he doesn't like NA players (even though i was using auto-translate), b) he doesn't understand that duo's are safer and better exp in the long run, c) he's an idiot, or d) he's ashamed of his gimp-ass armour and was intimidated by me when i marched into camp :P

I really have no idea. If you're a bst and you're planning on staying in a camp for over an hour, is there a reason to do <I'm playing solo right now>? If there is, please explain it to me cuz this blows my mind. I would understand if he was camping a high-price item or something, but I'm just boggled. Somebody, please, explain this to me.

Sorry for the long post, semi-rant.

It could be as simple as enjoying the relaxing pace of soloing. I know there's been more than one occasion where I've turned down a duo in lieu of the pace of mind I get from soloing mobs.

Another reason could be that in a BST duo especially you need a lot of communication. Since aggro is much more detrimental to a BST duo than a full party. Being unable to tell your partner in his native language that "Hey buddy that Knight Crawler behind you is about to rip your head off" can cause a lot of confusion and cause unneccessary death and downtime. Since it was a JP player this is probably the first and foremost reason he did not want to duo.

Yet another reason is that some BST simply enjoy the challenge of soloing. So many things are done with a full party/alliance nowadays it can be very fun to take on strong mobs just yourself.

Really man, don't let it Irk you at all. If you and that BST were able to share the area with few mishaps and still get decent exp, be thankful, not upset. It's better than having to change camps entirely or not exp at all.

If it's just that he wanted to solo for the sake of soloing or for the pace, then it's one thing. But if it has anything to do with language/communication then it DOES irk me because I do speak japanese and I do live in japan and the guy didn't even bother to ask. But I'll just try to believe he was farming zinc ore, zincite, earth crystals, lol.

I DO have a problem of assuming the worst though. Having played on JP time for the past 1.5 years, any time I get rejected I instantly assume that the guy is a racist prick. lol. That's just my own vice. Something I need to get over. hehe.

Lmao, okay Pak. Look at what you just said.

I don't think it is beyond reason that he had assumed you did not in fact speak Japanese or live in Japan. I mean, when I invite a Japanese person to my party I usually assume they don't know English, because I don't want to seem rude by asking them. Perhaps he felt the same way?

If you wanted to let him know you speak Japanese, you should have spoke to him in Japanese and see where it went. Really, it's nothing to get irked over in the least, you should just calm down. He didn't mean you any harm and you none to him, you're making an issue out of a non-issue ^_^

:? I'm calm. I was just pressing the question wondering why this sort of thing happened. lol.

I just don't even see the point of the auto-translator anymore. Once you use it, you're pegged as an NA, even if you CAN communicate in full using it.

<Tiger><Danger>

...

<Fishing><t>

...

I know that's not communication in full, but it is good enough to explain that he/she should watch out for tiger aggro or that you're pulling back a mob.

Anyway, a whole different topic/rant could be written on the uselessness of the auto-translator. hehe. But thanks for your time. I really don't know what this guy's issue was, but it was days ago so it doesn't even matter. Was just curious is all. Thanks.
