Ive always been curious about these lvl 50+ earrings that weaken and enhance your "edge" on specific types of mobs. Can anyone enlighten me on what these do specifically? I know in my job traits, it already lists these "killer" effects and tells me i get an "edge" when fighting these types. Would this be the paralysis they recieve when fighting me? If so.....how much better do these work. Any BST comment on this?

The killer effects only cause the paralysis you see when mobs of the killer effects type is facing you. This makes the killer effects relatively useless since they have a very low proc rate, and while soloing and party play you won't be letting the mob face you too often anyway.

Now of SE let player killer effects work like a mobs.. well, that would be a different story.

The killer effects a mob has kick in any time a mob is fighting another mob, regardless of who has hate. I've seen killer effects kick in while I had hate, and my pet has intimidated despite the mob not looking at my pet. I've also seen the killer effects proc much more with mobs than with players who have killer effects, So I speculate they're more powerful.

If Killer effects worked like that.. I could see BST taking a new role in parties and a more useful application for soloing.

Imagine for a second that it worked like mobs killer effects do. You could invite a BST decked out in killer effect +gear (swapping in killer equipment relative to the mob type you're fighting) as well as wearing CHR+ gear (which I think effects killer effect proc rate). It would be an effective way for BST to assist the tank in the party by intimidating the mob and not having hate. Tanks would take less damage overall because you're intimidating the mob.

But.. I doubt SE would do something like that..

Um... As a Dragoon with Dragon Killer, it only kicks in if the mob is attacking me, or if I have used Ancient Circle on the person who has hate. So I have no idea what you are talking about lol

I'm not sure, but BST+Tatami+Related Earring should do a pretty decent Intimidation rate. Compared to basic traits, atleast.

They also add a dmg%up against the certain mob too.

earrings add 5%, wear two of the same kind and its 10%.
i use 2 undead earrings on my pld when im in sky and the intimidation rate is fairly useful.
i'd imagine taitami is another 5% flat for all killer abils, and im not sure what a Bsts latent job trate rings in at, maybe 10%, 20%?

no sure how useful a solo bst would find pumping intimidation up, but i can see some situations where a +25% (or more depending on what the JT add) intimidate could be handy.

of course, like some posters mentioned, they dont do a damn thing if you dont have hate.

Syn probably means range.

Killer effects and Call Beast Timer are probably the only job specific worth meritting for bst. Noticed a huge increase in # of intimidations with just a few merits in Killer (using Tatami too.) Seems to kick in a lot more on lower level mobs, but i have seen a couple of EM+ to 75 get intimidated in a row. If SE made some more end game bst area that you could use Bst/Nin on (besides Arcana in sky which we don't really intimidate) i could see killer effects being a lot more useful for Bst/nin since its a lot easier to steal hate with two axes.

That's what I was talking about. YOUR killer effects only kick in when the mob is attacking you. However, it works differently with mobs. An example, if you will:

Pet: Beetle
Mob: Funguar

So, I'm fighting a Funguar with my Beetle pet, which is currently tanking. As the beast hierarchy goes, Beetles can be intimidated by Funguar. During the battle, I manage to pull hate. I'm tanking, my beetle is now acting as DD. However, unlike my killer effects which only kick in while the mob is facing me, my beetle still gets intimidated.

This has happened to me on numerous occasions. Whether or not the mob is facing the pet, the pet can still be intimidated. Furthermore, their intimidation seems to kick in a heck of a lot more than any players (providing of course that the player isn't wearing killer+ gear).

What I was saying in my previous post, was if Player killer effects worked like this, it would add a whole new dimension to parties. Beastmasters would wear CHR+ and Killer+ gear during battle (as opposed to the usual melee setup) to intimidate the mob and therefor assist the tank by preventing damage.

This would be especially useful if a ninja would tanking, since it would be as if they had extra shadows.

edit: I'd also like to add I've seen no reference thus far anywhere showing that killer effects increase damage against a given mob. Unless something was recently changed, killer effects only let you intimidate the mob when it is facing you.

It is consistent though, whether you're talking BST or pet... at any time a killer effect can cause the defending mob to intimidate the attacking mob (or the target can intimidate the originator of the action).

I've never once intimidated a mob unless said mob was actually facing me (as in I had hate). I have however seen a mob intimidate a pet, even when the pet did not have hate.

Lol, exactly. Only the OFFENSIVE action can be intimidated if the DEFENSIVE party has the killer effect. So the mob can only be intimidated by whatever it's trying to hit.

If you and your pet are fighting a mob, it can intimidate both of you, but it depends who the mob is facing as to who can intimidate it (if it's facing you, you can intimidate it, but your pet can't. If it's facing your pet, your pet can intimidate, but you cant).

It's not about who has hate though it's about who's attacking. If you were solo farming (ie no pet) crawlers and you had a train of 5 crawlers. Any or all of the five can (and will) be intimidated regardless of which one you're currently targetting.

Ya know... I've suddenly realized I'm a fuckin' moron. Ahem.

Lol, thanks Blowy, dunno why I never looked at it that way. However...

It doesn't change my point, if Beastmasters killer effects allowed them to intimidate whatever they are facing, it would be of far greater use to parties.

I think a big factor is that "Killer" is a really poor name for what is essentially a defensive trait. BST naturally get Killer traits, and so they're associated morewith BSTs, but the Killer earrings are usable by all jobs, and I'd think they'd be far better for tanking jobs than they are for us BSTs. I only started looking at the earrings recently (I'm only just past 50 as BST) and I don't think I could really justify buying them for the cost and the minimal time at the end of each fight that I have aggro.

Tank jobs though would get a lot of value out of them, I would think...

The killer effect earrings would be nice for Ninja, an intimidate here and there would work great for blink tanking

I agree, as it stands the killer effects are essentially useless. Solo we rarely take hate long enough for a killer effect to even proc once. In a party we see hate even less.

Thus the idea I posted. More utility for BST both solo and in party, and they can assist with tanking by intimidating the mob so the tank gets hit less.

I don't think this was said yet, but if it was forgive me. If you don't have the killer effect, and something adds to it, it gives you the effect but with only a 1% intimidation rate and a function of your chr. This is pretty nice with Beast Killer and Dhalmel in Bibiki, but hardly noticeable.

Another thing about killer effects, some armor makes you a "type" so if someone has a killer effect and you target them for something such as a cure, you may be intimidated. Example is the Crimson/Blood gear makes you a dragon for all intents and purposes, so if you ballista a DRG, they can intimidate you.

Oh, I got ya Lecan. Musta read wrong lol Yeah, you are right.
