I'm a 75 RDM so when it comes to cannons, the PT set up usually never changes, BRD RDM NIN WAR/nins and occasional drk/nin, sam, or thfs for birds.
But my RL friend is a 75BST and I usually make PTs for him to join.

Now he uses Life Drinker Lars which I know is really good...and he always mentions how he is usually one of the members dealing the most damage...I have filters up so I only see my own damage...

So I ask to the general population, what's your take on BST and Meriting?
:spiteful:

I like them. I generally don't see them though. (Though to be fair, I typically only merit with LS, and the only such LS-mate that I would merit with, who's also a BST, no longer plays.)

But BST/NIN with good melee gear is quite respectable on their own - obviously won't (without counting pet) beat out an equivalently geared WAR or anything, but can certainly hold their own. And adding a DD pet will bump up their total percentage of damage output rather impressive (although the really good ones are rare enough HQs from rare enough ingredients that they're a bit pricy for just a merit party).

Now, if you've got a BST/WHM with carrie, then yeah, that might not be quite so impressive.

(On a similar note, I've been hearing good things about total (pet + master) damage from even the stigmatized PUPs, if they're well geared, including puppet attachments, and know what they're doing as well. Again, haven't seen enough in merits to say from experience.)

That BST you merited with was really good in bed too.

And I've actually had a lot of people surprised at how decent I was in a merit party. So I think they are fantastic.

inv me i want to merit on bst :|

BST/NIN Cons
-No berserk
-No double attack
-No joyeuse

BST/NIN Pros
-Pet that parses an additional ~5%
-Same axe skill + gear as WAR
-Ability to use quality food on Colibris due to Snarl
-Temperance Axe > Joyeuse due to axe skill

I'd say it evens out, although you won't see as high Rampages, since you don't have berserk or mighty strikes.

I want to add that he usually subs WAR....usually uses Berserk Rampage Provoke and then Snarl.

Provoke ->> snarl would be a pretty good first voke in a super cannon party. Especially if you got a bst that plays the job well. That way no damage is gimped by casting utsu more than anyone else because of voke.

Yes, its horrible bst can't use a Joyeuse, with one they could really put that E skill to use.

And war's can use mighty strikes once every two hours...don't know why you bothered to mention that.

On topic, bst's will never be able to keep up with cannon DD, but hold their own, definatly.

I was saying BECAUSE of the E Skill, BSTs can't use joyeuse. I didn't realize that we actually couldn't. I know we can use Ridill, but yeah, the E skill makes it bad. That's why i mentioned temp axe.

Mighty Strikes is what lets you see record-high rampages. It was an afterthought, really.

EDIT: Mentioned before about Ridill and Adaman Hauberk >.< With Snarl they could theoretically be able to keep up without being a mp sponge /war and gaining the benefits of /war, although they'll probably burn through pets and pet food faster. Also I imagine increasing their pet's level every 2 hours might close the gap very, very slightly. It would definitely be easier if they could choose pet TP moves.

little off topic but I was seeing more bsts get pts more because of the snarl update, I think they're pretty good for ws > snarl or voke > snarl.

Has bst started getting invites at lower levels?

i used to merit bst/nin awhile back and i could out DD well equipped wars... then again some wars out DD'ed the shit out of me... if you have a pet... and good gear... and either nin or war subbed.... bst can be pretty damn good in merits or even at lower levels..

bst/whm with charisma gear in a pt tho... uhhhwut?:P

Honestly, my best rampages have been without Mighty Strikes.

But it is a fun ability to use every 2 hours.

I'm willing to bet its because when you do use mighty strikes, your at 300% to try and show off with epeen damage. But being at 300% (tp>crits for rampage) will make you crit most the hits anyway, so your not really seeing a difference with 2hr. If you'd really like epeen damage, get 300%, use warriors charge, berserk, 2hr, and steel cyclone (tp > damage).

I average 1.2k (spikes up to 2k occasionally) ws as war, using raging rush. And my DoT with GA and /sam, is greater than the DoT of axe/axe. I dont know why wars are still using axes, all their doing is gimping themselves. The only time you should dual wield is if you have a ridill. And honestly, even though I'll probably be flamed for this, I believe with fort torque, 8/8 GA, sam sub, etc. A GA war could match, and possibly outparse a ridill war.

BST in merit parties can be damn fun, the problem is that the grand majority of the BST population is insanely gimped as well as take on idiotic perceptions in terms of gear (i.e. many think Rune Axe x2 and Gaudy Harness is better than ME/Juggy/Hauby for cannons.)

Even more BSTs cling to CC for dear life even though Lifedrinker Lars is much, much better as well as a fairly easy HQ that's additionally inexpensive, barring you don't pull dumb stunts that gets your pet killed constantly. Because of the crap like above happening so often, it makes even inviting a BST to a cannon incredibly risky, and more times than not, not at all worth it.

I love BSTs in my merits (Miros, Aki D:!)

But it's so hard to find ones that know what they're doing in merits, I hardly invite the ones LFG that I have never met.

It's scary how useful Snarl is, surprised it has not caught on more.

And if you want to see a "stigmatized" PUP in merit I can show you Vilurum D:....

;;.........

But yeah, I'm always open to BSTs that understand what they are doing in merits. Just every time I invite a random one... they have a light staff and just throw shit at the enemy :/... Kinda odd how I always get THAT player -.-;;

Kornflake put up some parses awhile ago on alla. Pretty much keeps up or beats most jobs he parsed against. He has all N abjs, brutal, suppa etc. Temp Axe is a must to deal the type of damage he was doing, and with LL you do good damage. I've seen parses where a well geared BST (with near full merits) was matching a fairly similar DD in pt...but he was leading the parse by like 7-9% just due to LL.

Actually I've tried /war and /nin and I like /nin better. For some reason my rampages are higher, even than with berserk...I think it's because of the extra offhand hit and +4 STR / +1 base damage from mainhand Woodville's.

Though, I didn't parse actual DoT. Dual Wield II and suppa would make things awfully close.
