hey all,

I heard there was going to be a besieged soon, like in half an hour or so. Do any of you know if this is true? If it is, I want to fight this time. Does it matter where I am in Al Zahbi? Or do I have to be in a certain spot. Thanks.

You can estimate for yourself when a besieged will take place, by checking the Besieged map. It's located under Region Info, right near the Conquest map ... or, you can just type /bmap in-game.

I posted a picture in this thread that will show you what I mean:

Notice, in the top left of the map, you can see the level of combat-readiness for each beastman army. In this particular case, they were all at Level 1 at the same time ... but it isn't usually that way.

Most of the time, you'll see them at Level 0, which means they aren't getting ready to attack at that particular moment. Hover over the location of that army on the map to see the level of their forces. It'll probably be somewhere between 50 and 90. If this is the case, you've got hours and hours before that particular army invades again.

Once the forces of any of the three armies reach 100, however, the rate of troop recruitment accelerates, to something I'd estimate to be roughly one unit every four or five minutes. Since our Besiegeds have been at Level 5 for a loooong time, you can pretty much count on them not actually advancing until they hit 150 (Level 5).

I just logged out of the game, and noticed that the Undead Swarm were at Level 1. That means that Besieged is probably at least another two hours off ... not half an hour. To make an estimate for yourself, just log in, check the map, time how quickly it takes them to gain one unit, then make a calculation for how long it should take the army to reach 150.

Once that happens, if you're in the Aht Urghan area, you'll get an "advancing" message. It is from THAT point you've probably got half-an-hour more.

To answer your main question, however ... no, it doesn't matter where you are in Al Zahbi. You'll be re-located by force once the invasion starts. Just make sure you aren't in Whitegate.

If they're at level 4, they're very close to starting their advance. Bear in mind, however, that once the advance starts, you're still several minutes off.

To see their army size, you've got to actually move your cursor over the physical location on the map that holds that particular enemy force.

In the Undead's case, it's Arrapago Reef. You want to look at that landmass on the Northern part of the map.

Thanks a lot. Ok, so they are at ~140 troops now, at 150 i get the Advancing message? and then I just chill in Al Zahbi til it goes down?

That's right. You might want to open a book or watch something on TV once you get there, though, because it's still gonna be a while. o_O

Remember that your reward is based entirely on your level of activity ... if you're going as the mid-50s black mage I see listed in your avatar, I'd recommend forgetting about your nuke arsenal. Rather, you'll be healing as much as you can, whomever you see that needs it. Raise whoever you see that needs it, as well. Use your job abilities (like Elemental Seal) as often as you can ... try to get a debuff to stick with it.

You should do alright. ^^

Bitchin.

I've never done one before so I'm kinda excited. I know I probably won't be able to do much killing, but I have no problem staying back and healing. Thanks for all your help.

If I may ask, have you done at least one staging point? You'll be missing out on at least half the reward of the Besieged (the Imperial Standing) if you haven't. T_T

Quick, before the Besieged starts ... follow the instructions in this guide for the second Aht Urghan mission (Immortal Sentries):

http://lostlegion.ozotype.com/data/tau_guide.pdf

I think you've got enough time. Once you get the cutscene from the Mithra, I suggest doing the Halvung Staging point ... it's the easiest. You'll find directions to it on page 55.

If you'd rather not risk missing the Besieged, however, you can just do it later, and live only with the Experience reward.

OH. Thanks for the link, maybe I'll do it later.

Right now I'm just here to see what its like. I'm not at all concerned with a reward, I just want to fight mobs in a town.

How long do these things usually last?

As short as 20 minutes, as long as 35-40. You're in it for the long haul, once you're there.

Advancing!!!!!

Wish me luck, I'll let you know how it went.

K, its done now. I died seriously like 13 times. My strongest hit was Stone III for 4 dmg. Massive. I spent most of my time healing people and raising other people.

This was awesome though.

You figure out how to stay alive better as you do more besiegeds :)

Also, just in case you didn't know, you don't lose exp when you die in besieged.

I figured it out when I didnt delevel 10 times ><

That was seriously really fun though. I didn't get anythign for it, but I had a good time.

Blms don't have much use offensively in Besieged. Even tier IV nukes do embarrassing damage most of the time. I guess it's to keep beseiged from becoming another manaburned event. Anyhow, I get my full 700/700 by casting cure III on anyone with any damage. Nukes are horribly mp inefficient in beseiged since all the mobs have 99% magic resistance. Cures bring in the full points, and raising seems to be a huge boon to your point total. I estimate you can get your full 700 isp and exp halfway through, as today I died halfway through and reraised, and still got 700 and 700 at the end. Once I think I've gotten full points I treat beseiged like a risk free skillup pt and whack on mobs for an occasional .3 staff. Occasionally someone will try and shout orders like mages keep away and such, but it's easy enough to blame lag for not seeing it. Blame lag for everything, and do what you like, I say.

Aye. Beseiged is awsome for just going out and wacking shit. It's kinda weird though how some of the mobs spells work. At one time every melee that was around me took 3000+ DMG and died yet myself and the BRD lived with only taking 20 DMG. That was weird, but atleast it didn't matter if I casted raise or raise II on them.

I don't know about that, it seemed no matter where the mobs were, when one of them made a casting motion, I ended up annhilated. I have to say though, I was never dead for more than like 15 seconds because people were raising left and right. It was awesome.
