Yo, my financee' is wanting to play the game as well when I go back on.

So... I tried my best explaining to her the job choices that you are given at the beginning, I also asked her which job she wants to be her main, but just as I was when I first started... I was clueless.

So I told her about MNK, WAR, THF, WHM, BLM, & RDM... so out of these 6jobs which she has to chose... which one do you perfer she use? She likes them all but can't chose.

Since this is her first online game I want to help her and make it a smoother road for her.

If you aren't able to perfer something then can you give me some info like the Cons & Pros of the jobs that you know of. Then I can let her read what you write so that she can have an easier time chosing which job she wants.

rdm in the long run more invites blm is great at invites from 10-75 but the rdm gets invites at 41+ when not flg
if need gill do war to 18 then thf to 37 then farm

but what about WHM?
 
If you can put up with main healing people i'd go whm. There's never a whm seeking when I want to form a party.

Oh.. before anybody asks me if I told her about the "advanced" jobs (PLD, DRG, etc.).... I have told her about them.

I just told her not to worry about those jobs right now since they're a little bit far away from just Lv.1 and also since she doesn't know how to play yet.
 
Mithra rock as thfs :). However they are pretty good at anything. I still say whm :P

Bullshit.

SMN don't have Erase, our haste sucks and our enfeebs rarely stick because our enfeebing skill is at half our level.

SMN is a substitute for a WHM, not a replacement.

THF is good.. and she does like running away from big scary things.. lol
 
I think I have more fun w/ my BLM now...in parties, but level 1-15 were more fun on RDM - AND whenever I am needed to participate in a mission or event or whatever (besides the Promys - I was BLM for those) I am asked to come as my RDM. YES, my RDM is a bit higher - but not by much (rdm71, blm67)

Both jobs get constant invites. When I want to melee I whip out my RDM and my NPC and go to town....when I want to nuke the crap outta stuff - BLM ftw.

I hate whm. NOTHING against anyone who IS a whm - it is a needed job. I just ALWAYS ALWAYS fall asleep when I am main healing. Just too mundane for me. I only got it up to lvl 40.
 
everyone is assuming she's gonna be a mage. what if she wants to be a fighter? that being said if she wants to start out as a mage cant go wrong with whm. if she wishes to start out as being melee i would suggest monk. when i lvled my mule for sandy CP items i went monk and had little trouble with party invites at the lower lvls. and both are good subs for lvling other relative jobs.

Anyways, if she wants to be a mage... I have a BLM bias. >.> And if she wants to be a melee... I actually find MNK a lot of fun.
 
I don't really think I was assuming she was planning on being a mage...BUT since I have 3 high level mages, and the highest NON-mage job that I have is a 17 thf, I don't really have much of an opinion on non-mage jobs. Not an educated one, atleast...so - yeah. Simmer down now. we can only give opinions on things we know about.
 
Depending on what she wants to do in the future, id say Warrior and/or WHM (Not at the same time though ><). Those are the two starting jobs that are subbed to nearly anything and everything and are definately the most versitale.

I started as WAR and sub it to about every other melee job (all 28 of them). But i made the mistake of going with 1H sword and shield (when you didnt get crucified for it) because i was going Paladin. But then had to go back and level 100 levels of Axe, which wasnt very fun. Good luck to ya!
 
I would suggest going back to advanced jobs and seeing what she is interested there too, becuase that could factor into what job she wants to level first. Say she wants to be a PLD, then she would want to level WAR to 30 so that she would have not only her subjob set, but a slight understanding of hate management as well. If she wants to be a SMN, level WHM first. I, myself, believe that WHM and WAR are the two basic sub jobs for any mage or melee class, unless of course its WHM or WAR themselves. (BLM/WHM, RDM/WHM, SMN/WHM.. PLD/WAR, NIN/WAR, DRG/WAR.. of course theres subjobs that are more useful later on, but to start a job thats how I see it.) What she wants to play as a main deffinatly influences what job she starts off to level.

Questions to ask her would be things like if she wants to cause damage, support a party, or heal a party? Does she enjoy a high pressured role like NIN or PLD, or would she like something easy going like a DD class or BLM?

Don't exclude advanced jobs from the start ^^ You never know if what she levels now may be her sub tomorrow.
 
Actually, you should probably explain the advanced jobs to her now. A big part in the choices I made and give people is based upon what advanced job they will chose. If someone choses to be a PLD, then I suggest leveling MNK first. MNK because you can get that to 18 with no subjob, warrior to 30 for advanced job access (MNK sub helps with stats and tanking when you level WAR), and PLD to 75 (have warrior leveled to 30, need 7 more levels for full sub). Perhaps she would like SMN? BLM first, then WHM once she has a subjob. The same goes for every adavanced job choice. For the easiest choice, level the subjob for the subjob to your advanced job first and then the subjob for the advanced job next.

honestly why make a thread like this? pick a job that has that intrest you the most, no fun lvling a job that annoys you or that is boring. for me when i first started i wanted to be a DRK, well i guess i kinda went the other way on that one, being a whm and all..

but if you have all lvl 1 jobs then figure out if you want to be Mage or Melee, if its a melee, lvl warrior.
 
I say don't listen to anything anyone has said. Take all of the stating jobs up to 15 or so and then pick the one you like the best. It's pointless to play a job you don't like just because someone else said that it is what you should play.
