Binh, giving BLUs the blues.

BLU get this overpowered bullsh-!t and what to PUP get? 500k-2m parts that in the end STILL make their DD subpar at best.

Should get a few more pages squeezed out now.

I'm not going to deny it. BLU is damn powerful lol. Throw in /bst and you definitely have overpowered. In a pt setting, meh.

Sounds fun, hopefully I can get the spells I need by then. I have everything I can solo up to 65, but some of the lv62 spells I'm going to need a couple suicidal volunteers to help with.

I'll play along just to get it moving. ;)

BLU has to go farm about 4 new spells every 1-3 levels, meaning a massive amount of work has gone into each "overpowered" blue mage. A BLU with all their spells is just someone who's put a lot of time and effort into gaining an edge, not much different than someone who puts their time/effort into getting uber r/ex gear. Why shouldn't they have an edge over the people who choose not to?

Aside from that, BLU really is overrated by most people. It's new enough that people who haven't levelled it (or people like Binh lulz) still don't know what it's capable of. I've gotten invites from people who didn't know I could dispel or stun, and I've gotten invites from people who expect me to play refresher. People really are just clueless about BLU at this point. Just because we're beasts in ballista they assume we're untouchable.

Oh and PUPs are ugly.

What can they possibly nerf? Oh I know.

SE: "Guys, blu is overpowered. We're renaming 1000 needles into 750 needles effective immediately"

As was mentioned above, blu's bust their ass getting all of their spells. We're no more overpowered than any other job. We're just different.

And I'm pretty sure pup is underrated.

And no matter how much I think pup's look kinda cute/cool, you guys freak my wife out. hehehe. And she doesn't even play ffxi.

Not referring to 1000 needles, considering that's a very slow, very inaccurate attack. But many attacks out there, such as Headbutt (which is what, a 8s recast Stun?) as well as other things can easily make the job overpowered. Cocoon alone stomps Defender into the ground AND without Attack loss, just as one example.

And PUP is underrated, but it's also still not all that powerful. The only true melee gear they get is the set from Salvage and the L50 JSE (if you'll even call that DD armor), not to mention the low hand-to-hand skill. They do make so-so tanks, but with Evasion skill being nearly worthless and Guarding skill being utter hell to skill up, they do sortof leave something to be desired in th form of tanking as well. The puppet can do some quite useful support abilities, that much is quite good, but they don't really get anything that other jobs can't do [and MUCH more], and it is a rather bad injustice that they get such poor equipment choices as well as such low caps in melee skills. =\

But maybe I'm missing the point of the job.

There's no hot cocoa in my hooouse...

lol yep took me 2 weeks to get Bludgeon 1 week for Healing Breeze some spells I barely get solo without getting my ass killed a few times.

Blue Mage is an emo job literally you have to let the mob blast you repeatedly and barely survive to gain new found power

There isnt another job like this in ffxi unless you count the mini avatar battles which us summoners can relate to...

That is all

Edit: I remembered why I quoted you freaking your wife out with pup must be hilarious

And there are jobs that are much stronger dd than us but dont go through the same trials ie black mage, monk, ninja, etc.

Headbutt is pretty powerful, I'll give ya that. But I doubt SE would ever gimp it other than AT MOST throwing a few more seconds on the recast. That's a sick, sick spell though. :D My alt-3 button is going to be broken by the time I ding 75 just from spamming that in every situation.

And cocoon I can't see them gimping either. Possibly upping the recast, but that's it.

In the end, these two spells make it worth subbing /blu in some situations, and make blu mains powerful as hell. Not necessarily overpowered. But pretty damn close.

And, in one way, we, like pup and cor, are gimp. I mean, where the hell is our AF2. And where's our +blue magic skill items. We get ONE item (that I know of) that enhances blue magic skill as blu mains. One. There's a reason 1000 needles is inaccurate. There's like no gear to support it aside from nashira.

Sorry for so many edits. Needed to look up nashira stats.

Frightful roar + stinking gas.

Lol, need more then that for Auto-Refresh, not to mention I dont think we can use Auto-Refresh(requires 8 points) until level 58. I think the combo you need at least until you get Sea spell s is Frightful Roar(2 points) + Cold Wave/Stinking Gas(both only worth 1 point) Self-Destruct (2 points)Light Of Penence (2 points), Vocarious Trunk (3 points and its a level 64 spell...). Before Sea spells you need to come up with a combo that = 8 points only then can you get Auto-Refresh. Actinic Burst and Plasma Charge (both give 4 points) I for one am looking forward to that lol. the reason most BLU dont use auto refresh is because you waste a lot of "BLU Points" inorder to get it pre-Sea Spells.

PS you all did know BLU sets points and have a max point set of 45 at 75 right >.>. Also every one of those spells have a point value to them
Frightful Roar for example cost 3 BLU points alone Voracious Trunk cost 4
So I think SE had nerf in mind when they set this spell points. 45 is defintely not enough to get more then 3 effects at a time.
Though i must say that would have been a ver nice Merit option :x Add BLU Points...

It really depends on your equipment setup, party setup, and or what you're doing on whether or not auto-refresh is worth it, in my opinion. At 64, you can get auto-refresh with 11 points, which IS a lot of points to use at that level. However, there are times when auto-refresh will boost your effectiveness more than the str or some other stat in the same slot would. Not always, but sometimes.

In a party setup, I almost always leave auto-refresh OFF to be honest. I tend to prefer a more str based magic set with some dex when I run out of str spells. That's just me. But I have partied with auto-refresh on and had good results. I just prefer str and dex since I can usually just pick up sanction refresh.

However, when I'm soloing blu/nin or blu/bst, I go strictly with auto-refresh, auto-regen, and accuracy bonus. I know, most of you blu's out there don't have bst at 75, but for me, this setup allows me to solo around 5k exp (as blu/bst, probably more at 75 vs imps) per hour without fighting parties over imps or waiting on the next noobtastic party to invite me.

At 75, I can't see any reason not to have auto-refresh on. I'm only 73 though, so there's still time to change my mind.

How the hell did this thread go from a flame to an actual good discussion? Doesn't qcdn usually take an opposite approach? I feel like I've broken a major rule or something.

Yeah depends onwhat I am doing, If i am soloing I have Auto-Refresh on, and MP absorbtion, Acc bonus etc.. In Party setting I usually stack up STR, Acc, Store TP.
Yeah, sorry bout that .. Derail gogo

Just wondering, for something like BLU/BST, do you just toss a pet a tthe mob and do some debuffs or do you fight alongside the pet? I know BST tends to do it for faster kills (moreso to be able to have TP to finish off the monster), but for BLU it doesn't seem like it'd really be needed. Just sortof curious to how you'd go about playing BLU/BST...

blu/bst is slightly more effective than bst is at the camp I'm at currently.

I've been spending the past few days at sky soloing 72-73 (almost 74). I'm sure you remember, but at 72, as bst, I often had to use 2 birds to take down a sprinkler. First one to take off a bit of HP and then fight alongside the second one to finish it off.

As blu, it only took one bird. Ever. I always fight alongside the pet. Occasionally I'll debuff, but that's really unneccessary. I do tend to dispel blaze spikes just because it annoys the hell out of me. I mp drainkiss every fight for 60-140mp aspir. And at that last sliver, I Chain Affinity Disseverment for the kill.

As blu/bst, I am often able to kill the 3 pots before the first one even respawns again.

It's really the same tactic as bst, just a whole lot more stunning, and sometimes my pets survive with like 80% of their HP lol. Nothing beats stunning thundagaIII/thunderIV/flare/etc. Those pots are NOTHING without their heavy hitters.

But yeah, I fight alongside the pet from the get-go and usually have around 100tp at the end of the fight for a good ol CA Disseverment. Chain 4 damn near every time.

Figured I'd write up a good flame since there is a lack.

So I get an invite on my 42 MNK. As we're filling up, the leader Binh, 43 BLU, says I should get ranged attack so I can pull...ya. Kid is rank 9 BTW.

W/e, we get to camp and I get aggro from an exo, and it one shots our PLD with silence gas, then takes half my health with a special...unfortunately he had taken the other half prior to his special.

So the BRD does his sleep don't attack macro...blu still hitting, after a few tries he finally stops. They raise the PLD, and the mob wakes, blu reattacks while brd is trying to sleep. Well, it was a mess, and we continue on.

So while I'm playing close attention to my auto-attacking, I ask why he is meleeing with pilgrim's wand off hand. He replies because he mainly uses magic and isn't a melee. So I ask why he is wearing melee equip like spike necklace, beetle earring+1, and tilt belt. He then goes on about how he can do more damage meleeing...wait wha?

After hurting my brain asking why he is contradicting himself, he says "I can't wait till I hit 50 so i can sub SMN".

It is really worse that I just wrote, but I don't have the energy to go on more, but I may later on.
first off lol you for argo the exoray. As for the wand and the more dmg meleeing; what I think he ment was he using mostly magic int base spells, but still meleeing so he need melee items as well. As for sub smn at 50 I really cant see why, maybe mp boost?

The stun on headbutt is also not 100% reliable. Whether it evens out or not at higher levels I can't say, but at level 60 on exp mobs the stun only lands about 50-70% of the time not counting misses. It would be silly to rely on a BLU stun cycle over a BLM or /DRK stun cycle for anything important.

Yeah I am 75, its not reliable enough to depend on it as a stun id say I land ~80 % of the time, but i do miss and it always seems to be on somethin important like say.. Thundaga III >.>or Self-Destruct, Meltdown lol things like that it LOVES to miss on lol. Now you do increase odds with multiple BLU all of them arent going to miss often lol... I know I did a Soboro run with 3 BLU, needless to say he didnt blow up often at all.
