I have been told...read...whatever since I started playing FFXI that bio and dia do NOT stack..and that they in fact cancel each other out. Last night in the dunes our Elvan whm took offense to my macro stating that I was casting bio and do NOT cast dia. I think what pissed me off the most was that he called me "buddy". I then tell him I'd always been told that they cancel each other to which he replied that I "don't need to be told"..??? uh ok...whatever that means. Anyhow back to the point...what are your opinions...and if anyone's actually studied it and has fact to back them up I'd love to hear it.

And just to mix it up a little how bout poison?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

This is how I understand it

Bio 2 > Dia 2 > Bio > Dia

So Bio 2 will overwrite any of the others. EDIT: The reasoning behind this is the same that causes elemental enfeebs to drop if the BLM casts one of the opposite element. Dark > Light but at the same time Light > Dark

Oh, and don't EVER call me "buddy". I f***in hate that name so I hear ya.

Yep Bio and Dia dont stack. As far as poison. Do you mean to ask if it stacks with bio or dia? Yes it does, its an enfeeble spell. Where as Bio is a Dark spell and Dia is a light spell i would imagine.

Dia

Dia is a light elemental enfeebling spell. If you're casting bio, and the idiot whm doesn't listen about dia, just let them, Bio will not allow dia to take effect.

This is ALL still very debatable to me. I have heard it both ways, the majority however seems to be I the cancelling side. I will say this however. My static was fighting crabs in Kuftal the other night and we decided to test. The crab checked as "High Defence", the Whm casted Dia2, we rechecked the mob and in no longer said High Defence. I then did a Bio2, we rechecked and the status did not change.

That being said, since the masses believe in the cancelling effect, I usually just go with the flow because the argument isnt worth the effort as I can prove my side no more than the other person. So a good stategy would be to Dia high defense mobs like crabs and beatles, and Bio stuff like orcs and yags.

I've always been told that the same lvl spells, (bio and dia, dia ii and bio ii) overright each other based on the divine and dark skill of the mage, not just that dark > light. It might also go that the stat based on the magic, mnd for dia for instance, would have an effect on that... but I'm not too sure on that one. Of course, a lvl 2 spell will overright a step one spell.

And poison will stack, it's a different kind of magic.

Rule 1: Bio and Dia do not stack

Rule 2: If you are a whm or blm and have a rdm in your party don’t cast either of these, in fact don’t cast any enfeebles leave that to us because we are better at it than you.

Since this is a discussion board, let's discuss. What makes your Rule#1 a Rule and not just a theory? I have never had ANYONE give me any kind of quantifiable evidence. All I ever get is, "I heard they cancel". After 54 levels of being bound by this "rule", someone please give me some type of empirical data please.

There has been testing done, but I do not know the link nor could I google it. I will try harder when I get home from work.

I agree Alanon...and that's why i didn't take this guy on last night...even though he DID call me buddy! I am sooooo not a buddy >:(

They had a thread on Allakhazam that showed it cancelling each other in the Logs, some screenshots confirmed it, forgot where it was though.
What someone (I'm a War myself) should do is turn off all the Filters and try casting them and Confirm wether they Cancel each other out  .

I don't think it cancels personally, have you ever been Dia'd and Bio'd by mobs? I have, and it SUCKS. I was losing more health, lol, but thats when a mob casted it on me, if it cancels on the mob, then thats just stupid...

Bio is dark, not enfeeble. RDM should NEVER cast Bio, unless there's no DRK or BLM in the group.
