What the f-!k is this? One day I actually have the entire to just totally screw around, and within 5 minutes I get kicked, game saying I got some Protocol Timeout thingy. It doesn't let me back for 5 minutes, then seems to work fine....then gives me another "Protocol Timeout" once I zone. Now hasn't let me even get back into POL for the past 30 minutes.
What the crap? ><
 
Might want to test your internet connection Ish.
I had that same problem some time ago, and though my internet appeared to be fine.. It was intermittenly dropping packets. I had to get Time Warner to pull a report for me, and they ended up replacing my lines.. seemed to happen more frequently when it rained. If you're playing on pc, might want to reboot and try again. Good luck, I hope it doesn't affect you too long.. see ya round.

That's the odd thing though...I can connect to the internet on my computer just fine, using the exact same phonecord as the one I use on my PS2 and everything..but on PS2 it simply refuses to connect to POL.
 
you're on dial up?
I'm wondering if congestion on Playonline would affect you then...
I hopped on at lunch today for a brief moment, and noticed that things were slower than usual in Jeuno. If there's an unusual strain on the server, that could cause that.. unless they're doing something behind the scenes to get prepared for the upcoming update.

*that would be optimistic to think SE would plan ahead....

If you're on dialup.. your connection would be a little more "sensitive" than say mine on broadband.. and any serious time between responses may cause POL to "time you out". This is all a matter of assumption on my part, you may want to just try a different access number, and see if you have better luck. FFXI is probably the biggest program, data wise I think I've ever seen.. so would make sense if it was timing out because it was trying to send you a wealth of information and something was bottlenecking on your end.
