Just randomly looking up junk, and apparently Botulism (most dangerous natural bacteria in the world)....is created by companies pretty often...a derivitive of it is used in cosmetics...the deritive being Botox. A single pound of Botulism can kill the entire human race...and companies are making several hundred pounds of this stuff year-round to give people fuller lips and crap.

Discuss? XD

Not fuller lips but to take away wrinkles(sp?). It relaxes the muscles and makes all those "fine lines" go away. But if you want to shoot poison in your face, so the guy that never notices you, still doesnt notice you, go for it.

You think thats scary, my dad often works at cleaning up old weapon sites and once heard a story about transportation of some gas, maybe VX...lets just say Detroit and Pittsburgh were in danger of being destroyed!

You is silly. ;p

There are a good handful of chemicals/compounds that are like that. To change one molecule or the shape of a certain compound can alter some of the properties slightly or significantly. Also happens with the removal or addition of molecules/compounds.

A few compounds can be completely harmless but if the molecules are arranged differently in structure, deadly. Isomers I think (thanks google ;p). Please correct me if my chemistry information is wrong (it has been years since I have taken a class).

So ya, hopefully the stuff given at the clinics is the right stuff. There have been cases of malpractice where false doctors were giving people fake botox injections. Now that could be scary going into a place with unliscensed staff and not even knowing it. e.e

There are also creams and other cosmetic products out on the market to "help" and "make" people feel and look younger. The chemicals in the products that focuses towards enhancing lips contains some skin irritants, thus fuller lips guaranteed for some period of time. Not every over the counter cosmetic item is necessarily safe either.

As long as people have a self-image of themselves as "ugly" and strive to make themselves feel good; there will be open markets for things such as botox, makeup, cosmetics, cosmetic plastic surgery, etc. Chances are those markets will not be diminshing anytime soon.

The botulism bacterium is an anaerobic spore- that means it only thrives in low-oxygen environments. For that reason alone it's not dangerous in most situations. The only exception I can think of where you might encounter a case of botulism is from contaminated canned goods- so make sure anything canned you own has an undamaged can.

The toxin which the botulism spores produce is actually destroyed at temperatures boiling and above. Yet another reason why it's not that great a danger- if someone were to contaminate a water supply, for instance, all you'd have to do is boil it to neutralize the toxin.

The toxin actually does have medical uses outside of the cosmetic. The toxin acts by paralyzing muscles- death by botulism poisoning is actually suffocation, as your diaphragm muscle becomes paralyzed making you unable to draw breath. It's been used as a local injection for paralyzing eye muscles during surgery for decades if I remember right. Botox injections "smooth wrinkles" by actually paralyzing the facial muscles that pull your face into those wrinkles. It generally lasts a couple months before it wears off.

Mistook Botox for Collagen. ;-;

But seriously, freak explosion with enough carbon dioxide + breeze = people in the downdraft are gonna get paralyzed and stuff..
