I'm a really money poor THF and honestly I'm not a fan of the Blau Dolch to begin with.(why is this darn thing with low base damage and hokey latents popular anyway?) Setting that aside..well I found the wiki entry on dagger trails and it seems that you can augment a Dakini in a certain way so it's almost a blau with higher base damage(it has str + instead of accuracy..and isn't that a latent anyway? I hate trying to trigger latents) Could you guys tell me what you think? No way is a blau worth 1m...

Dakini: base=dmg 25 delay=195 final augment(after the right upgrade path)=dmg +9 delay -5 str +4 attack +12
 
The latent on the Blau is easy though, which is why it's so popular. TP less than 100%, and during weaponskills. The latent, such as it is, isn't hokey at all, which is why the Blau has retained a significant amount of value, since there's functionally nothing that's as good in terms of DPS.

In terms of time invested... I dunno. The Dakini is a viable alternative in that incarnation; I don't think it's quite as good, in some ways, but still; good enough. But it's an awful lot of time to be spending working on it. Something like 750 mobs that you'll have to kill during specific day/weather conditions. That won't be easy.
 
sorry but I distrust anything with a latent(having 100% TP to activate is lame and the latent "hidden effect" is worse and beyond my understanding) and add in the low base damage and I fail to see why anyone would want this thing when there are higher damage daggers and other stat modifiers about. I can understand other hidden effects like Carbuncle's mitts but I fail to see any potential here unless the effect is "always on" like the trial daggers(in short I believe that the blau is one of the worst daggers I've ever seen). To me killing junk is easy and 800 mobs...well how many mobs do players kill in XP parties trying to level? Millions? seems like a good trade to me for something that only has one worse base damage than my obsolete harpe(which was fine until the trial daggers came out) with stat modifiers that pick up that slack. The other trial dagger I'm interested in is the Kartika which is second banana to a Mandu in base damage but it requires lots of nm deaths which...well I hate NM camping!(lottery spawns stink!)

Katika- damage 33 delay 201 final augment damage +5

I weighed my options and decided that the Dakini was easier to get due to nm troubles/spawns/grabs....
 
I think it's actually pretty straight forward Neko.

While you're building TP the Blau Dolch has the following stats:
DMG: 33; Delay:178; Attack +16; Accuracy +5

Once you go over 100 TP it becomes this:
DMG:26; Delay: 178

But hey, go with what works best for you :)
 
Exactly. LESS THAN 100% TP.

Blau is expensive because, in terms of DPS, it's simply the best dagger out there short of Mandau. And the latent/hidden are both active during weaponskills, so the only time you lose anything by using Blau is when, for some reason, you spend extensive amounts of time OVER 100% TP.
 
still looks like it belongs on a junk pile to me guys...sorry or it should only be worth 100K not nasty millions

To each his own. It's the best dagger you can buy, hands down, in terms of DPS. Whether you agree with it or not doesn't alter the fact. For me, I'd probably just save up the million gil, rather than spend day after day trying to kill specific mobs in specific day/weather combos.
 
No offense, but this was a funny read. People have been using that knife for years and have lots of "proof of concept" on builds built around Blau. But anyways if you want to ignore the facts, to each thier own, but why come to a forum ask whats better if you simply dont care anyways? I am with Raes. I could make 1.2 mill WAY WAY WAY before I could finish one of those magian quests. The funny thing is people used to pay double/triple for that knife less then a year ago because of how powerful its so I look at 1.2 mil for that knife "cheap".

You really do not understand Blau Dolch's latent.

It is active for weapon skills.

It is active for melee swings until you are over 100 TP. Is there EVER a time THF should be interested in gaining 300TP? No.

THE ONLY MAGIAN WEAPON A THF SHOULD CONCERN THEMSELVES WITH IS AGI+4 EVASION+12.

Since I'm sharing account with this guy, I can tell you right now; I've been doing most of the gilmaking for both of us. He IS broke, only has about 400k to his name atm. (I've been gardening for him since I am effing not going to farm for him, I got other things to do)

That said, I'll support Bro (yes he's my brother) in whichever. Whatever works, bro. Whatever works. Tho if I level thief I may get me a few Ro'Mave waters to sell and get me that dagger or get some friends to ENM it with me.
 
If you calculate the amount of time necessary to kill the requisite Trial mobs, I'd wager you'd discover that it would be EASIER to farm the million for a Blau.

On topic:

Consider the DEX+4, ACC+8 dagger instead. For a budget THF, the accuracy on the dagger is going to be very nice, and the DEX+4 adds not only accuracy, but also bonus damage during Sneak Attack. Unless of course you don't trust/understand that accuracy stuff.
 
I assumed this was an attempt at trolling, albeit a bad one.

In the event you're serious, I'd like you to post your standard TP gear. (All 16 slots, not just the daggers). State what exactly you use Thief for, in broad terms.

Don't bother with pictures or anything elaborate.
 
You're obviously not understanding how that latent effect works. As it has been explained before, the latent: DMG: 33 atk +16 acc +5 is active while ur TP is under 100% AND during the WS you fire off, which means that you only lose the latent if you hoard TP past 100%. The dagger has dropped in price considerably on Quetz as opposed to other daggers (has sold for as low at 560k, at 700k atm) so compared to how many mobs you have to kill and how long you have to wait for certain types of weather, they both require almost the same amount of time invested.
 
to put it bluntly: all latents are junk to me thanks. and the blau is overrated.

You asked a question, and then completely and bull-headedly ignored multiple people who tried to spell the answer out as simply as possible.

As a THF the only dagger you need is Thief's Knife.

Well actually I got my eye on maybe working on a pair of the evasion ones myself, but I'm waiting for the update to rollover to see what the reduced requirements would be :P

To fit the BST sub argument, on MNK the only weapon I need is Tropical Punches/none :P :P (actually I obtained myself some Boreas Cesti but that's the only other weapon I went out of my way to get) lol

Pretty much what Nyosan said, why in the hell did you even bother posting this thread? The latent effects for the weapons of that family line (Blau, Onimaru, Maneater, etc) are some of the simplest to trigger, and are really no brainers, yet you insist and calling them junk, and you are actually pretty rude about it.............I wont black list you myself, since misguided people like yourself tend to like to spread your misguided information. Please refrain from posting any more "question" threads without thinking through what youre actually expecting out of them.
