Peregrine:

Let me introduce you to a thing called public relations. He's not allowed to say he's disgusted with the kiddos who are abusing his game. All he can do is use codewords. Codewords are what adults use to be nice in the spotlight, but at the same time they're subtly scathing. No, make no mistake, that comment wasn't light-hearted. It was a code word. He just lit the people who play blm and try to exploit it. He laughed to be nice during the interview.

Ok, I read your post and re-read the quote. Simply put, I think you are wrong. Tanaka-san states they have adjusted BLM's before, yet they continue to be a problem. Ergo, they failed. Please check the quote again, there is no rolling eyes or "haha" in it that I can see. If you are going to try to read between the lines of what someone says, it's best that you don't add things of your own.

As for how they feel about the players, I kind of doubt they are filled with the resentment that consumes you. They simply have a vision of the game that they haven't implemented to their satisfaction yet. I'm also willing to bet that they want the broadest and biggest base possible playing the game. They aren't disgusted with anyone who pays the monthly fees. From what little I know of Japanese culture, I'd say that they are frustrated that so many players don't want to step into the pre-conceived roles created for them and never try to break out of the box. I know I'm going way out on a limb when I claim that they made the game to turn as big a profit as possible, but I'll take that risk.

You seem to claim to have a direct line to the developer's inner psyche, I simply interpret objective finding and direct quotes. I simply infer that what the game designers want and what we would consider fun are probably two entirely different things.

P.S. Please continue to be as angry and condescending as possible. I find this type of stuff to be very amusing, and SomethingAwful.com can only put out so much new material each day.

Wow, internet debater tactic number 345: Reflect the accusation with no basis. Gee, let's review the thread to see just how stuck up I am. A...overt dragoon-lover. B...don't rely on burn parties and rigged setups...C...plays a marginalized meleer class..D...**** just read and comprehend the thread. This is stupid.
I love how you talk like you know me, I've never said even one word to you.
...except this:

You don't know me from adam, and the first thing you say to me: I don't seem to do something. How the **** would you know, hypocrite? You're right, I didn't know you before you opened your mouth. But boy I read you like a book now. You can dish out assumptions but you can't take them. You can open with them, but how dare someone reply in kind. You're a black mage!
I have never once made anyone feel less important than anyone else. Why do you find it so necessary?
...ORLY?:

You can't even OPEN the discussion to me without failing your claim. Are you even reading this thread? Exactly how am I making others feel that they're worth less? Who are you talking to? You can't be talking to me. I'm trying to make people see that other jobs have more worth than people give them credit for. If that means nerfing the babysitters and stuck-ups, then fine.

You couldn't wrench the sentiment out of your words if you tried. You may not even be conscious of it, which is naive but better than being an outright elitist. It's plainly clear what's going on deep down inside your head, in spite of what you overtly say. You think you're better enough to be doted on for helping others. You help dragoons. Dragoons don't help you. You have to bring out piercing weapon-damage to even convince yourself that dragoons help you.

You can't hide. I see you. What you think you're throwing back at me is nothing but a reflection of yourself that you don't even recognize. Blm has affected you. I can smell it on your words.

Meh I'm bored of you. You have no actual arguement. You can try to twist my words and hack apart what I said as much as you want. Stop crying over a class that you obviously believe is better than yours or you wouldn't be complaining so much. This game is about everyone helping eachother. Who are you to say I've never been helped by a Dragoon? Because I have. Anyone who walks around with any god gear, dynamis gear etc. has been helped by another class. Get off your high horse. Have a nice day.

Actually, Peregrine doesn't believe BLM is better(remember his parsed results he mentioned.)

The problem lies in the abuse people make of the instant damage aspect of Black Mage. It gets many jobs left out of things, as well as lessens accomplishments. Notice people laugh at those who try to pass BLM-onry DMs off as successes? Thats because you're abusing the job. You aren't playing the job to play for fun when you do that. You play the job just because of the power. It happened to rangers, and we saw what happened to those abusers. They quit the game, or went back to their regular job. The real rangers stuck through. The ones that didn't play the job because of the power, but because they played it to have fun.

The individual Black Mage isn't the problem. It's the self-righteous sect of the collective. The ones that go "lawl I did 2k MB worthless melees" while over looking the fact that Monks, Thieves, Warriors, Dark Knights, and Dragoons do that much(and sometimes more) in the time it takes you to cast that spell. The same ones that stack other self-righteous Black Mages so that they can trivialize group-effort events. Divine Might. Dynamis. You name it. It's the ones that don't believe in the team-aspect of the game, where all 15 jobs have equal roles. If Square wanted one class in the game, thats all they would've made.

And before you spout out "You're a Monk! You can cannon bones!"

Guess what? I fucking hate Ranperre's Tomb. I hate the exp. I hate everything about it. I'd rather be in a balance party in Ru'Avitau or Uleguerand before I step foot in that shit hole. Have I Monk Cannoned there? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Hell no. Wheres the enjoyment in not being able to do things casually. You take a break to go to the bathroom and the whole exp set up there is ruined. And the sad part: You need to cannon there to even get decent EXP.

You aren't playing the job to play for fun when you do that

So?

No one has any right to blast someone for wanting to win instead of "Having fun" come on Skaw that's scrub talk.

Winning = fun.

Well then I'm sorry that you've had shitty experiences with BLM's but there is no need to generalize that we all act like that. I've never rubbed in a melees face how much damage I do because a lot of the time they do just as much damage (and in the case of some mobs, even more damage). Magic and piecring damage are completely different, BLM's have to know that without the melee, they can't do the MB that they brag about. I agree though that there are more than enough BLMs that have the attitude that a BLM is all about nuking and high damage, more need to start using the other skills they have been given.

Exactly, you have no right to blast others who play to win. If you went to a video game tournament or something and said "Don't use that character/team/set up that's not fun" you would be laughed out of that place in a heartbeat.

not everyone plays this game like they are sitting around a camp fire singing kumbaya.

Some people are naturally competitive and like to see the big numbers.

just so happens the kumbaya singing bitches are the ones who cry loudest(except when thier president is getting punked out of office by bush and his crew).

Every job has its bad apples. Manaburns, Bone-cannons, Rampage-parties - there are multiple jobs that can make average to better than average exp by neglecting other jobs. I agree that these parties hinder a sense of inter-job teamwork, but let's not single out manaburns alone. In fairness, nerf one or nerf them all. Skaw, you don't like bone-cannons, and that's all good and well. You're a team player. You're not the percieved majority though. I'm a blm that's never been in and never wants to manaburn. It means I'd have to do extra skillup parties to keep my magic up to par. If I'm going to skillup, it's only going to be for skills I can't normally cap in traditional exp - melee. I don't enjoy skilling up, so traditional exp parties limit them.

If I were going to do endgame I would prefer to join the expedition with as few other blms as possible. Let's face it - blm drops in endgame are scarce indeed. For Gods, we have Kirin's Pole (arguable), and Zenith Mitts. For Dynamis, there are 15 other jobs that can possibly get Relic armor. In the event that the (I hear relatively rare) blm armor drops, I wouldn't want to compete with 60 other blms for the lot. To be perfectly honest, in an ideal situation, I'd rather no other blms were around. Stacking jobs is counterproductive to individual gain. I believe someone here had an idea for an all blm Dynamis team, and that was one of the problems mentioned.

Instead of nerfing jobs, they should increase the effectiveness of others. I mean, every job had a role....

No, the rest of us are not so weak as to need boosts--blm is just imbalanced. The game doesn't need to be easier. Blms have it too easy. Blms who need it that easy are gerber-fed gimps. What, you can't get it done without inviting 5 black mages? Must suck to be as incompetent as you (the indirect you in everyone who opposes me, not anyone in particular). You're probably the same talentless mouth-breathers that can't beat a FF without leveling to 99 and giving Yuna shield bash. Tell the truth: you like abusing black mage because otherwise you can't get it up. Incompetent idiots. Fine, I'll take the monk and dragoon. You all jerk each other off.

Wait no, don't. The rest of us have too much integrity to keep it this broken. I'd rather see the developers nerf you for your own good than to have you sit in your own silver-lined **** any longer. Not that I'd ever associate with you after the way you've disgraced blm already, but maybe it'll keep people from becoming as sad as the old impotent hacks who can't get it done in the game without 3000 MP.

The developers have it right. No, the cap will not increase so you babies can have it easy. No, they will not make every job as idiotically effortless as a black mage burn session. They will cut the excess out so that the existing tree rounds out.

**** 18 black mages. You beggars are sad and talentless. Here's your nerf. Now come watch how mommy and daddy play.

Is the problem the arrogant players in said jobs? It seems like it is. However, know that the arrogant bandwagon power-seekers are like fleas, and killing the dog won't make them go away. They'll just hop on to the next dog that passes by. The fleas on the Ranger dog hopped over to the Blm and Mnk dogs.

Did they? I know a lot of the ranger kiddos went to blm, but sooner or later they'll get the hint. If you keep skimming the top off eventually people are going to have no good reason not to stick that draggon in a BC60 and a L60 party.

Maybe you'll learn how reality works when you're older. I'm not reading between the lines. This is how adults communicate with each other. The producer is disgusted with the types of people who play blm for the power. Period.

I amuse you? That's odd...you bore me.

Peregrine I would hate to play any competitive game with you, sounds like you think that anything that can beat you is "Cheesey" or "Cheap".

Like EA sports says "It's in the game"

Get off MY high horse? Stop talking to yourself. Again, you think you're talking to me, when you're really looking at a mirror. Blatantly obvious.

CraaAAzy.....

I know that prenerf there was at least 200 rangers on at any given time, and now there're about 30-40 rangers on at any given time, and blm rarely seems to drop below 200. Blm moved in and replaced rng. There's always going to be a job that all of the community praises above all others. It used to be Ranger, now it's Blm. The people you dislike don't care about the specific job they play. A /sea all can prove that (provided you believe me that Ranger used to be a popular job). You think those people will get the hint, but I disagree. I think so long as the FFXI community seeks to solve problems by the quickest and easiest means possible, there will always be that "one job" that works best in the cheap, gimmicky sense. The community will praise this job, as they always have done. The people you hate- that's all they want. They'll get their ego stroked whether they're firing arrows, casting fire, or punching a skeleton. I don't know what the next most powerful job is. Maybe it'll be 70+ summoners for their super-BP's. That's the sort of one shot, one kill damage that people look for. It'd be up in the air, but all jobs will never be "equal". If they nerf blm, then there'll be 30-40 rangers online, 30-40 blms online, and 200+ of whatever moves up. I don't know what will move up, but I know something will.

Uh...no. What setup exactly can beat me in this game? I dont' ballista. How the **** can you beat me? My team owned the record for Jungle boogeymen until the last update cleared it. Does that matter? Gee, no it doesn't. We won and that's all. Game's not hard to "win." I got my armory crate and left. It's just sad that whenever I say that I want to do some BC runs, crickets start wailing. **** you gimps that need your pacifier mages. I got my armory crates. Not everyone is me though. They shouldn't HAVE to do everything themselves to prove that they're worth inviting. That's what a nerf is for--to force people into seeing the value of other combinations.

You would indeed hate to compete with me. If I had a nickel for every time I humiliated some 6'4 hot-**** dumbass sprinter on the track, I could buy your character from IGE. They're 30 meters behind wondering how the **** some skinny white kid just ate their lunch. But online competition isn't my cup of tea...I think you'd probably get that after every time I call NM campers beggars.
