So I'm a 57 blm as stated in the title, but I level fairly quickly (played this server for 2 months). I was wondering since this is my highest job on any server, what are some ways to make gil as a blm. Should I get into crafting or farm or camp NM's or something really cool that maybe I haven't even thought about yet >.<

I ask because when I ding 60 this weekend I an buy some armor that would be acceptable(but not uber) end-game such as:

Pennint's Rope (bout 4 mil now)
Phantom Earring x 2 (bout 800k)
Intellect Torque (bout 2-3 mil if any are in stock)
Earth, Fire, Wind, Thunder, & Air Staves (varies)

I currently have about 1.2 mil gil and my highest craft is only at level 6 (leather), so crafting would have to be something that gets me gil immediately from the beginning. Or if there's something I'll have to put some gil out on, that's about how much I got. Thank you in advance

have you tried BCNM's before? I know that when my piggy bank is tight these are always a fun and challenging way to make some quick cash. ^_^ As a black Mage you could try BCNM 40 with the worms and use a manaburn party to wipe em out clean ;)

My advice is, get some field gear and go mining, buy pickaxes at NPC stores for 2.4k a stack, if you get 3 iron ore that pays for the pickaxes, gold ore goes for almost 60k, so does darksteel, and you get these fairly common on mining places. I did mining for a while and still do it from time to time.

You don't need dual phantom earrings, go camp moldavite earring with a friend (I spose I can help if I'm online and you see me ^^), mob is Mysticmaker Profblix in labyrinth of onzozo. Your necklace problem can be solved by keeping what you have now, and getting another BLM friend, and a bard or RDM and go do the philomath stole BCNM (level 60, 60 seals). Drop rate is good, and you'll no doubt get yourself a +3 int stole from your first attempt (pm me for more info for a decent strategy for this fight).

Now you're onto farming, I spose this is up to personal preference, but I prefer spider webs (when camping dune widow), although they have a terrible drop rate. Silk thread is also a good one, and with the sudden boom in price there is no better time than to go melee some crawlers :P

What's so bad about taking Morion Earrings to 75 rather than the Phantom Earrings? I thought for BLM INT > MP anyday.

Blue, Morion is +4 MP +1 INT, Phantom is +8mp +1 int. Just more mp, is all.

Try farming silks, like Blabj said, it's a good starter farm for any young padowan. =] Crafting right now is probably not the best option, as 1.2m will not get you to the point of being able to make uber monies in any craft (could get a slow steady income, but not worth it, IMO) all of Blabj's advice is about what I would have given, if I'm around and not too busy, I'll solo Mystic for you.. preferably with a ToD, but if not, no harm. ^^;

If you're having trouble getting gil, save up seals and do BCNM60 : Wild Wild Wiskers. It drops Pent's Rope, and is insanely easy. It's a 3 person BCNM that can be done easily with WHM + NIN + BLM. (For info on the BCNM, go to http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=&fquest=559 scroll down and find a post by Pergatory, it gives you a strategy that is pretty fullproof). Drop rate on Pent's Rope is very good too.

Phantom Earrings aren't worth the price unless you're someone on a second job with millions of gil to waste. Moldavite+Morion/Cunning works just fine, or 2x Morion/Cunning until you get a Moldavite.

Intellect Torque isn't worth it, just save up for an Elemental Torque. You can (and will) use Ele Torque for the rest of the game. The only other comparable neck piece is Uggalepih Pendant, but the Magic Atk. Bonus only activates under 50% MP, and for some things the Ele Skill+ is better than Magic Atk. Bonus.

For Elemental Staves, I'd recommend getting these before anything else. Each Staff adds 10% damage to their type of spells, and HQ Staves add 15% damage. They also help reduce resist rates for that element. The staves are the "required" gear for BLM. They aren't required right away, but as you get past 60 you should definately have most/all of them, and by 65 a BLM should have them all.

thanks for the advise, more is welcome...right now I just bought all my staves and it made me broke as anything (less than 20k left) but I'm going to try mining and making money that way. also a few people said they'ld help with Moldavite Earring, once i find a ToD i'll more than likely be sending you guys a /tell to see if you can help. Thanks again
