Okay, just so you know, I haven't been hacked into. It was my friend Samsy, again... ><

Last night Samsy and I logged out and arranged to log in around 11am to camp Mee and Quu, when I log in this morning, Kris suspected that Samsy's account may have been hacked into as Samsy was online, but not responding. So I asked for a tele to Kon Highlands and started looking for him around the map, a little while later, Kris joined in and found him.

His WHM AF was missing, he was standing in the same spot for ages, and he wasn't responding to our tells. I called a GM and he gave me the Information center speak etc.

I sent him an e-mail saying his account was hacked and gave him advice and support, he hasn't sent me a message back yet.

Now earlier, I said "again", he had been hacked once before and he came back on his feet with great help and support, but now to face being hacked a second time, it's just sickening.

When he comes back onto FFXI, I'm gonna help him regain what was lost and help him back on his feet, as best i can, I just hope he hasn't lost too much because of this hacker bastard.

It's a shame to be hacked once, but twice... it's just sickening, i just wish the GMs could do more that give the Information center speech. :banghead3:

Tell him next time that "password" is a really stupid dumb shit password.

How the hell do you get hacked twice.

maybe he shouldnt give out his info or used 3rd party programs.

wonder if his password is "HackmePlz"

offtopic: hillz using the same avatar i used to use lol:ph34r:

Give me a break... 99.99% of all "hack" incidents are morons who give there password out to the wrong people. If he wants to stop getting hacked tell him to change his password and STOP GIVING IT OUT.

If someone truely was able to legitmately "hack" your account they probably "hack" other things and wouldn't waste there time going after an ffxi account. And even if this hacker was so inclined, why bother just to toss someone's rare/ex WHM AF which is easy enough to get again? That's just retarded on too many levels.

Why do people constantly get the idea that GM's are some sort of god and have the answer to everyones problem in game?

Maybe he's not around and just forgot to logout? Regardless, people don't "hack" into accounts very often unless they have retarded passwords in which case they deserve what they have coming.

lmao, win.

As we all know:

FFXI/POL account info > credit cards, bank numbers, social security, address, etc.

Real identity theft is for noobs.

honestly,

unless your friend just pissed off the wrong person , its highly unlikely he/she was hacked, probably gave out pw or something stupid.

when someone steals your accnt because you gave the wrong person your pw it isnt called hacking btw.

In the imortal words of Gearge W. Bush:

"Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice... well... your not gonna fool me again, let's just put it that way."

And here I thought using "believeit" for a password alongside my Naruto AV/sig wouldn't been a totally brilliant idea. :(

hay guyz!

Content ID: ZZZZ0000
Password: 0000

To be totally honest though... The person either has a really bad habit of talking... or they are using 3rd party apps. Either way, the fault is theirs alone.

If you think about it, FFXI really does kinda have 2 passwords:
A.) What is supposed to be an Anonymous content ID
B.) A user provided password - potentially stronger than the Content ID.

there.

For the slow crowd:

Hacking usually involves digging for information or going through multiple channels to get it without the users consent.

Having the information handed to you by some moron is simply being opportunistic.

That is all.

wow tough room... not surprised

anyway it seem to me that you are guessing that he was hack because he was standing in 1 spot with no af on. (also known as afk) If he has been hack well that sucks, and there really nothing you can do or anything the gm could do except maybe find who did it and call them out on it. If any money items were taken look at ffxiah.com to see if a person sold 1 or more these items. Look for names of people close to you because they are normally the one that will stab you in the back.

Who the fark is Gearge?

Yarp.

I would check his machine for any key loggers/virii on it first. Also if your on a network, people can "sniff" your password as its sent to POL/FFXI. Also if you check the box to remember your password, all it takes is someone decrypting it from stored file.

Also using only 1 password for everything is stupid. All it takes is one of the places you use that password to get compromised and your S.O.L.. I used to run forums for a site, when boredom hit I would sit there and start decrypting users passwords for fun. With that I have basic info (name, location, email, password, possibly CC info depending on site). With that you can easily spread into taking their email without much effort. From their email...anything thats signed up to it is at risk now. I am sure some of you know about this, but you would be surprised at how many don't.

Use the on-screen keyboard so that the key presses are not logged. That or if you're waiting on your grandparents to get home because your keyboard is broke and you cannot play FFXI.

Wait wait wait... so ABC123 probably isn't a good password. Shit!

Funny how people looking for sympathy for being "hacked" never get it from this community.
I find this amusing.
