I was a little at odds with this combo, because this would mean saving TP for dances, and (almost) never using CA or WS's. But the other day I decided to try this combo, and /DNC seems to fill in the "gaps" for BLU. It far surpasses /NIN and I think /WHM too (for soloing). BLU has a good selction of haste and store TP gear, so it's easy to gain TP quickly. Most of the mobs (not all, but appears to be almost all) have MP in campaign. I believe SE made them /BLM, which may explain why they warp out at the end, but it's just a theory. I was taking MP from SAMs, MNKs, etc. MP Drainkiss + Aspir Samba = godly MP recovery. I engaged mobs with ~100mp left, and held them with relative ease til about 50% when others joined in. With /DNC you can remove nearly any status effect (like poison, silence, etc), w/o the need for items, or expending mp. And BLU gets 2 forms of dispel, and erase, though I didn't set the latter. Being able to cure using TP or MP allows you to be very versatile (yags have a move capable of removing a weapon/rngd, which resets tp to 0, so having magic fruit set was nice).

Nothing currently very practical about this combo as far as end-game or nms, but it's at least a lot of fun in campaign.

Edit: Also, as far as MP, I think I rested maybe 2-3 times in the 6+ hours I did campaign, and that was due to weakness (still can't take a swarm of mobs on, lol). This combo is incredibly MP efficient.

I personally do Campaign with this combo too, and I usually get very good exp. I try as often as possible to get a mob to tank, but it can be tricky some times if others join you in the begining, lol.
Even while weakened I try not to rest unless the only thing left is something that likes to use aoe attacks. This combo I think I tend to have the most fun with out of everything else I've tried with campaign.

It does sound like a decent combo, but only really for campaign. I've tanked as drk on those mobs, they just don't hit very hard, and it's very easy to keep up. Blu/nin you would never need to rest.

When it comes to things like imps, or other things blu/nin solo, is where /dnc falls behind. Because the mobs will be hitting you for 150-200 a hit, and you don't get enough tp to keep up with healing.

I don't have /dnc, so you can claim I don't know what I'm talking about from that, but I have duo'd with a blu/dnc, and they struggle to stay alive on imps. I would assume the same happens for anything T+

/nin you do at times need to rest if soloing in campaign (to date I can't solo in campaign using this combo, usually get the mob to maybe 50%, then I run into the problem of shadows going down too fast to recast uts, spamming head butt/actinic burst to slow the mob down, and spamming magic fruit to keep alive) /dnc by far is more mp efficient, you just have to be smart about it. Aspir Samba appears to be the equivalent of a refresh of about 5+mp/3secs (1-3 mp per hit) and stacks fine with auto-refresh (JT and any equip you may have), and MP Drainkiss just puts it over the top. Soloing Imps is completely different, fast fights against hard hitting enemies tend to favor /nin, whereas it seems /dnc is better for drawn out fights with mobs that hit for less (about a little over 100 per hit w/o cocoon, much less with it up). All I can say is, before using this sub I used to average about 1-1.5k in a long campaign battle, that night, I had 2 with well over 3k exp.

I've never had a problem with shadows, but I used to do campaign when it was like, only orc mobs in jugner. So maybe it's harder now or something.

The Imps I can solo as Sam/Whm its a bit of a struggle but I usually make it, bigger stuff, Pld/Whm is still my fav or Rdm/Whm. I am leveling Dnc now though with the intention of trying it out as a sub in future campaign's.

I dunno why you were only getting 1-1.5k in long campaign battles as BLU/NIN. Last time I did it (which was still after the most recent update), I was getting 1.8-2k+ easily every time, unless it was really short (even on the 1 wave ones that ended fast, I'd still get 800-900-ish). I don't really thing I was doing anything special. Just fighting like normal. Meleeing and throwing out Frenetic Rip/Hysteric Barrage every once in awhile, Head Butting from time to time, keeping shadows up, SCing with Savage Blade -> Disseverment, MP Drainkissing whenever recast was up, healing with Magic Fruit/Exuviation when needed... I didn't even bother setting a dispel spell. Blank Gaze is annoying to use in places like Campaign, because mobs like to turn a lot. Similarly, Geist Wall can be annoying to use cuz you can hit other nearby mobs, who sometimes have no one attacking them, so you get hate. Also, if Shadowfang Voids were attacking, I'd set Heat Breath and Frost Breath and have some fun owning them. :3

I really don't think I'll ever sub DNC on my BLU. <.<; Don't get me wrong, I love /DNC on my WAR, but on BLU or THF, the loss of dual wield and shadows just makes me feel.... wrong. Like if you were standing in a public place, and suddenly your clothes disappeared. Uncomfortable to the extreme.

I think I might be wrong on the 1-1.5, might of been thinking of my smn. Still, I've never seen 3k+ on /nin. And I don't know how anyone keeps shadows up for very long, mine tend to wipe 2 mins into a solo fight, with recast timer still at 20+ seconds (and yes I have them up, then time first recast when they are abouit to wear). And Ichi isn't very reliable (suppose I could macro in spell interupt down gear.... but meh). Nice thing about /dnc is you DO get hit, but can survive it. I read somewhere taking dmg gives you more exp, which looks to be true. Tried it on DNC, I would stand within aoe range, get hit, rest hp to full, repeat, and get more exp then doing the /brd song thing (I know, cheesy, but I can't hit anything in campaign at lvl 50). Dual wield isn't as much of a loss as you think, and as I said before, for campaign, waltz's > shadows, at least in my experiences. Added mp from Aspir Samba also gives you more freedom with your mp too.

Oh trust me, I know all about waltzes vs. shadows and the benefits in Campaign. Like I said, I love WAR/DNC in Campaign. I'm not saying I don't like the loss of dual wield/shadows because I think it makes me any less effective; it's a purely illogical feeling of wrongness. :P

But I see you are mentioning solo fights. Well, I didn't do solo fights on BLU/NIN, because like you said, I'd get my ass kicked too much. I fought things other people were fighting, and so yes, I did take hate pretty often, but I also had backup to take hate back and let me recover. I know people think that the only way to get OMGAWESOME exp is to solo things, but, at least in BLU's case, I was getting anywhere from 2-3k easily without soloing anything. (Though, if you fight battles outside of town, pretty much any job can solo an imp without too much trouble, imo.)

depending on the mob, i can solo one as mnk/dnc. i can easily solo imps and some of the quads. ill even throw in some ws. i only really run into trouble when i get a few on me at once and everyone around just watchs instead of doing anything. /dnc is the only thing i use in campaign.

I actually tried BLU/DNC this morning in Campaign, for the hell of it. To be honest, I didn't like it one bit. Way too much to do. It reminds me of actually trying to hold hate constantly on WAR/DNC in Campaign vs. several other people. In the case of BLU/DNC, keep Aspir Samba and Cocoon up, cycle between 2 different kinds of cures (Waltz II + Magic Fruit), Healing Waltz, MP Drainkiss, and throwing out damage spells? And hell, I was totally ignoring steps/flourishes. Maybe it was made a bit worse by the fact that I was PTing with someone from my LS, so I was helping him stay alive too, but meh. I'm too slow for that shit. BLU/NIN is a lot easier on my brain. >.>;

I think this is the real reason why I enjoy the combo. I like constantly having something to do, lol.

I always hate playing dnc main in campaign when people subbing dnc use the steps... it really reduces the amount of reverse flourishes dnc main can pull off with the mobs constantly at level 5 step debuffs.

Then use the steps that /DNC doesn't have access to then.
