I certainly hope BLU doesn't get sucked in to the /NIN SJ thing that seems to plague many jobs. I don't want to see pt's declining BLUs because they aren't /NIN. One of the good things about /BLU is the versatility in SJ choice...

Discuss.

PLD/BLU 4tw. Cocoon, Metallic Body, Healing Breeze, and from what I hear you can combine certain magic to cause effects like auto regen and refresh. I can't wait to test the possibilities.

I bet u do lol

I partied with two BLU/NINs over the weekend, and they seemed to be doing okay dual-wielding swords like something out of Highlander. It's still too early to figure out which subjobs will be best. I can't blame them for wanting to get ahead as quickly as possible before the "cookie cutter" evaluations are made.

/NIN would be extremely bad for Blue Mage, they get no attack boost blue magic.

Personal Haste and ACC/EVA, but no Attack. And using swords only, that would fail. Aside from novelty of dual wield and everyones favorite cowardable Utsusemi, theres nothing it can offer.

Blu is an mp job right? So it will probably sub a mage job that has cures to support the party just like blm. If its focused on melee, then war or nin seem best. Most important thing is maximizing party's exp, not a warm, fuzzy feeling of being unique and versitile.

So far, I've enjoyed using RDM as a sub. Post 30 using En-spells with sword should be promising for damage. Plus MP and other stats, it seems to be a good choice, but like RDM itself, seems very adaptable.

Which one is personal Haste, I didn't notice that one, sounds hot.

By equipping Uppercut and Fear Touch (I think) you do get Attack Bonus.

want an attack bonus?

BLU/drk.

and youd get a lil bit of magic too.

I think a lot of the many combos out there are all great choices but, in the end it depends what you are going to gear your BLU for.

As we can all see, we can make a BLU a hellovah melee-ish mage machine or vice-versa.

I'm still working on my BLU at lower levels, but I've been told my other BLUs that depending how you customize yourself that you may even be able to replace WHMs. But of course to do that you have to customize it towards that.

Personally I'm gonna try /nin for solo stuff at higher levels, but I'm also inclined to /blm or even /war. For now I'm using /whm, and even with that its tons of fun. Some of my friends even want to try /drk and /rdm. They do have their ups and downs, but worthwhile trying at least.

Now as for the main argument in the thread, I don't think /nin will become the FFXI political standard as it has happened with other jobs in the game.
At least I hope not; lol. Besides SE, intended it for us to experiment with, and break out of that bubble of standardized mains/subs.

Likewise will be the case for COR and PUP.
I'm not sure if its come across many peoples mind but with PUP you might have your own party, w/o actual people; lol.

PUP/SMN = Player + Puppet + Carby + NPC.
For once its kinda nice we can experiment with these new jobs.
Everyone just wait for all the weird combos that actually may work.
If you do ballista, you'll probably see them most often in the near future too.

I like that attitude thre tons of wierd combos the ppl automaticly decline because there not common, ppl with no desire to try anything new because what you know works although they'll never know if there anything that can work better because there closed mindedness. Thats also why I like thise new jobs its got ppl experimenting again im personaly down to try with the pold job mixes. But to stay on subject here I personaly dont think /nin would be good for blu but who knows im still trying to figure out wtf to sub my cor with.

You cannot have more than one type of "pet." NPCs don't count as pets, but wyverns, avatars, charmed mobs, and automatons do.

So far BLU melee sucks. Sucks sucks sucks sucks sucks. Even with +attack food, +STR/atk/acc gear and a COR in the party rolling +atk and +acc, damage per swing is low on VT-ITs and feels pretty unworthwhile. On EMs and low Ts the damage was fine, but in party situations I feel that the spells far outweigh the piddly damage done by the sword.

No, but we do get attack boost through magic conbinations

I could say the exact same about NIN melee in the early levels. Look where it's at in the later levels. I'm willing to bet that with 269 skill, BLU gains access to sword skills previously only attainable by WAR/PLD/DRK. Not sure, but I'm pretty sure those weaponskills include BLU in the EX mix. Will we be seeing Vorpal Blade / Swift Blade from BLU? Maybe. Will we know much more about BLU by the time people start hitting the early/late 60's? Yes very much.
It's all about expirementation right now. I'm willing to bet that BLU/DRK later on is one hell of a combo, dependant on what melee gear they get.

Exactly, but sorry to say guys, I'm still going BLU/NIN post 20, dual wield, and later on the Elemental Wheel for De-buffing, seems kinda nice for a BLU to use, and No I don't care wtf people say, I'm going BLU/NIN or BLU/DRK, aside from the fact, that my WHM is 13, and Frankly I WILL NOT take him thru the dunes kthxbai

BLU will have to attack to gain TP. BLU Magic is extremely effective when TP is 100~300%.

BLU/NIN will make TP gain faster, Nerf or No Nerf.

Some Blu spells have effects based off TP, which makes /NIN viable to me.

or maybe SAM? :p

well, in all honesty, I don't see any reason to use /NIN in exp parties. I mean, sure, you get elemental debuffs, only, most of your spells are not magic spells, they are physical spells <.<; And those that are magical are mainly used to MB with <.<;

Some Blu spells have effects based off TP, which makes /NIN viable to me.
I don't think it counts unless you use Chain Affinity, sadly. Atleast, I haven't noticed any difference between 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300% TP.

Besides, with the resent "tp nerf" you won't really build TP any faster with Dual Wield, especially considering you will probably nuke most of the time unless you're soloing. Either way, I'd say WHM, BLM, WAR, THF and DRK are much better subs that NIN.

WHM - Divine Seal, more MP, MND, -na etc. Very good for party situations.

BLM - Conserve MP, more MP, INT. Good post-30 for extra nukes

WAR - higher attack, STR, DEX etc. and some nifty job abilities. Also good for tanking.

THF - good post-30 since Blue Magic stacks with Sneak Attack.

DRK - same as WAR, only you also get more MP.

I honestly can't see any real benefits from using NIN sub other then shadows, but that's a logn recst time and cast time, so imo, not worth it =/
