I could say the exact same about NIN melee in the early levels. Look where it's at in the later levels. I'm willing to bet that with 269 skill, BLU gains access to sword skills previously only attainable by WAR/PLD/DRK. Not sure, but I'm pretty sure those weaponskills include BLU in the EX mix. Will we be seeing Vorpal Blade / Swift Blade from BLU? Maybe. Will we know much more about BLU by the time people start hitting the early/late 60's? Yes very much.
It's all about expirementation right now. I'm willing to bet that BLU/DRK later on is one hell of a combo, dependant on what melee gear they get.

The problem is twofold. Look at the lack of endgame BLU swords. No Joyeuse, no Ridill. Endgame their best weapons have very poor DPS compared to just about every other job class. And the weaponskills - sure, BLU probably gets all the WAR/PLD/DRK exclusive skills. But will it matter? You're not going to close Light with a BLU's Savage Blade. You're going to close it with Spinning Slash, or Shark Bite, or Dragon Kick.

Secondly, BLUs can't just stay standing like most other job classes. BLU spells cost a lot of MP, especially later, and it's not like they have a deep pool in the first place (less so if they're subbing a melee job.) So far it looks like 100% TP is not required to skillchain through Chain Affinity in much the same way that a SMN's avatar is not required to have TP to chain, which encourages a lot more resting/swapping mainhand weapon for Dark Staff later on.

The vast majority of BLU damage comes from the spells, and not the meleeing (at least so far, and I've heard that's so even through the 40's.) I don't think it's time to say BLU shouldn't melee at all yet, nor do I think it'll ever get there.

But I feel less and less guilty every day sitting down and sacrificing TP for MP.

BLU is still new though, so no one really knows what swords SE plan on giving us later on. Hell, they didn't even add our AF's yet.

From what i've seen most ppl have been going /WHM...unless I've gone blind @.@

But all things aside, the three new jobs were meant to be varible. BLU is teh shit...you can sub alot of things to it and still have a great BLU. So, dont go by what most ppl do. Do whats best for you.
