Boy, 11, accused of killing father's pregnant girlfriend

Or he has a natural non-caring malicious nature and should have never had access to a firearm (for his natural life).

Some people are born with complete lack of human regard. Regardless of age it starts at some point.

Keep the firearms out of the hands of those who lack respect for human life and this type of occurrence would be less likely to happen.

For me, I'd ammend that to:

Keep the firearms out of the hands of children. Leave it to the adults to fuck their own - and other people's - lives up.

/facepalm.

Proper use being:

- Do not aim this gun at another human being.
- If you do aim this gun at another human being, you will kill said human being.
- That said, do not kill anything you do not intend to eat.
- The gun is only a gun, you are the one dictating if the bullet (or shot) leaves the chamber (or breech, in this case as it was a shotgun).
- If you kill a person with this gun, you will go to jail. You will likely stay there for the rest of your natural life.

If that smartass kid didn't get that lesson, someone did it wrong.

My dad taught my sister, brother, and me how to use a gun on a "kid-sized" shotgun basically using the guidelines that Tristam listed above. He also made it clear that if we ever pointed it at any human being that we would get spanked, the gun would be taken away and sold, or if we shot them that he would turn us in to the police. He also told us to always treat a gun like it was loaded even if we made sure that it wasn't. Also, we weren't allowed the guns unless our dad was present. Yeah not everyone who owns a gun is responsible and/or has the right motive in mind. I think that there should be tighter regulations on gun licenses and purchases. If there is a kid in the house, the guns need to be locked up and the key needs to be hidden from them.

It does sound like the kid had full intent of killing his dad's girlfriend but he is just a child. He should have been taught better and the guns should have been locked up. I don't know how I feel about the kid getting charged as an adult.

Amen. Kids + Gun = I don't get it

I kinda meant drop the whole "right to bare arms" bs all together, do not allow the average citizen the right to own such weapons and this would be less likely to happen.

Shit in my mind, keeping firearms out of chilren's hands is a no-brainer.

Commonsense dictates if there are no weapons readily available there's not much chance THIS situation would have happened.

To me it makes sense, but I'm not in the USA. I've never understood the gun laws over there, but I also haven't lived there, nor have I ever gone hunting, so I hesitate to pass comment on said law. However, it doesn't take much to realise that banning guns, and scrapping the "right to bare arms" thing would make deliberate and accidental shootings fall. Yes, you would still have people who would continue to own/use guns, but the number would most likely fall.

This is what happens when Nintendo doesn't prepackage a Light Zapper along with Duck Hunt anymore.

He could have just as easily grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her to death. The gun certainly makes it easier, but if you really want to kill someone, you can find a way to do it. It just takes a lot longer if you use a fork.

Then that's where discretion comes in. If the kid exhibited a malicious nature previously, then yes - don't give the cretin a gun, and don't give him one thinking that it'll be a great "bonding event".

I'd also like to point out in cases of "well, we never saw this coming, he seemed like such a good kid", 99% of the time that's horseshit.

He also told us to always treat a gun like it was loaded even if we made sure that it wasn't.

Also key, and the exact way my father told me how to handle a firearm.

Nail guns, Staplers, pencils, push pins, kitchen knives, sawblades, bricks, and sticks are all very dangerous weapons.

Guns are as engraved into America as the concept of a higher power is to religion. I know its difficult for someone not from this country to understand our laws, because many of us here don't either, lol.

Both the US and Canada have a love of guns. You'll find hunting grounds galore in both nations. But why does America have a gun murder rate that can eclipse almost any 3 other counties combined? who knows. Me personally i don't like guns at all. But the principles of owning one laid out by Tristamgreen i fully agree with. they aren't so different from the rifle safety guidelines you learn in the military. We have parents that teach their kids the proper use of weapons and children that follow them. But not everyone has children that listen obviously. We don't know what this child's father taught, or didn't teach, him about guns but its clear the child had functional knowledge of the weapon he had. Where his intent to use it came from is for a shrink to answer.

Do you not think it may have been JUST a bit easier for this grown woman to defend herself against a knife wielding child??

These kind of comments really get to me. Logic... logic.. logic. I, being a 26 year old female am fairly confident if an angry 11 year old boy were to come at me with a knife with all intentions to kill me I could fend him off. That being said, if this kid INTENDED to kill her the argument on whether he should be tried as an adult is moot, but what do I know.

Logic goes right out the window when you put the words "11-year-old kid kills person" into a sentence.

If a person saw a kid coming after him/her with a weapon and intent to kill, I think it'd throw him/her off a bit (unless it were a regular occurrence like in Sri Lanka or Burma).

Sorry I meant the logic of everyone replying to this thread. I meant the adults who defend their right to bare arms and in this case right to allow children the use of firearms.

It would've been a lot easier, unless he got her in her sleep. My grandmother was a heavy woman, and she always told the kids she had to punish: "Don't run from me. I can't catch you if you do, but I'll get you when you sleep."

This plus the women was eight months pregnant. I'm not saying that all pregnant women are frail but she had some extra weight on her so it could have thrown her off. It also depends on the fitness level and height of each person. Also, she could have been in the middle of doing something.

You guys are full of excuses. It's like trying to get a simple point through to a child in this case I swear.

The examples given may very well be valid but you're missing MY point all together. Keep going back and forth with the "if he/she used this" "not if" "or" .. I'm not going to partake in a tug-of-war of excuses and stretched examples.

What happened is clear, my opinion is clear, if this kid didn't have access to, didn't have the KNOW HOW to use a firearm this young mother would MORE THAN LIKELY still be alive. :Point match:

EDIT: As far as this kid going for a knife, one shot is more capable to have killed that woman than had the kid HAD to use a knife and stab her, even unsuspected.

He was taught how to use a gun, pretty sure he would have had better aim having the lessons learned.. his father probably hadn't shown him how to kill using a knife.

Except it's not tennis.

The kid could have easily gotten know-how from any source.
The kid could have easily obtained a gun, no matter how stringent gun-control laws are.
These are not excuses, these are facts.

How could an 11 year old boy in PA get a gun so easily if there were none available. If civilians did not have a right to own them this 11 year old farmers child would have had a very difficult time obtaining one, so I don't buy it.

As for him learning the use of a gun from any source, I'm assuming internet, a friends father/uncle/sister whatever, sure... doesn't change the fact that if he didn't have access to one he couldn't have shot one.

'Grabbing a knife', 'while she's sleeping' those are excuses to me. This story is told with certain specifics, why change them up and offer different scenarios as to what COULD have happened just to rebut my opinion?? Sounds like an excuse to me.

EDIT: Just to add more vinegar to the mixture, why is the legal age to obtain one's license 16 but a BOY at the tender age of 11 can learn to use a firearm? How is a 3000lb vehicle any different from a loaded gun??

I wasn't making an excuse. I was making a joke by saying you could kill someone with a fork if you really wanted them dead.

Of course the lady would probably still be alive if there were no guns in the house. Your own argument tries to change the scenario to what might NOT have happened if circumstances were different, so I'd say we're even.

You first mentioned him using a knife, if that was a joke I'm sorry I misinterpreted your message.

Sure, I'll take that we're even given my argument.
