To start, I must confess I've been starving for a good PSP RPG. I've kept an eye on just about all PSP releases and wasn't really impressed with the negative reviews. However after seeing good things about Brave Story: New Traveler i decided to jump on it and I have to say I really enjoy it.
The game for the most part plays very much like a typical RPG with heavy FF-influences. Now that might shy away some people but it's really solid and works well.
I havn't played too far into the game but I can highlight the basics of it. Like I said before it's typical RPG stuff here. Silent hero, diverse cast, turn-based fighting, random battles, the stuff you find in most RPGS. I'm not going to comment on the story because I haven't played that far in and nothing interesting has really happened yet. I reminds me alot of the FF1 in which there isn't much in the way of direction and pretty much go from point A=>B.
One thing that will catch the eye of most players is the amazing graphics the PSP pulls off. There are probably a handful amount of PSP games that come close to PS2 quality graphics and Brave Story is at the front of the line.
The towns and world map are not impressive persay but the game really shines during the fights. The developers went the extra step and created highly detailed character models that really standout. It's just a sight to behold.
Well didn't mean to create such a large post but I just wanted to inform anyone interested in a PSP RPG that will not disappoint.

I was actually in the same boat as you. I owned my PSP for about 3 years and purchased 3 games that I hardly ever play.The use of my PSP has gone through a set of phases: Gaming machine-->MP3 Player--->Photo Album--->
Paper weight. Then this game cameout and for the first time, I was actually inspired to use my PSP.

Graphically, Brave Story is remarkable. The same lightening technique that was used in games like Radiata Story and Valkyrie Profile 2, was applied to the characters; smoothing out rough pixals as well as fleshing out model design.

Battles are typical turnbased but,intersting quirks have been adding to make it more involving. For starters,..whenever you attack and enemy, instead of your convential "swing,hit,clank sound", Batman circa 60's phrases like "Kappow" and "Crupppa" have been added. Characters can perform tag-team attacks called unity(Dave Chapelle-Rick James UnnNItyyy) that range from immense attack damage to status buffs.

I hit a part in the game where the story is starting to develop, but it isn't anything we haven't seen before; but it seems that the developers eren't aiming to try to hard to push the stories epic title extremely early in the game.

So all in all, the game is defintely worth picking up. I haven't played through a big chunk of the game to really see the the flaws it possesses,..but I'm sure this game won't make a complete 360 degree suckage storyline wise,say like, Star Ocean 3 >.>;

i am buying it today i will give a full review on later
