Breaking to the Limit

Vodai tensed up but didnt move.......he didnt want to spook the mithra and have her carve up his friend. The galka did grunt angerily though, and said, "You would kill such a kind soul such as him? You have no heart mithra."

Brin reassured his captor as he said, "Please, calm yourself. No need to do anything too hasty now. You need not worry about my magic.....it is only to cure and cleanse.....not to destory. I'm a peaceful man.....if you need help, all you need to do is ask. The knife in my back is quite uneccesary."

Due to the escelated situation, Brin did not respond to the ranger for he was a bit preoccupied with this mithra who felt the need to swing a blade about in order to seem intemidating. The white mage did notice his presence though......and he also noticed the taint of the man's soul. It was conflicted and twisted.....

...

(( Sorry for the late reply, i thought the thread had died and my new daughter has been home. I'll try to catch up some.))

As the others raced forth to help the Taru, Tyrisian did something he rarely did, he hesitated.

As a Paladin he lived for the front line, felt alive dancing in the eyes of his enemy while his companions focused uninteruppted on the battle. But that was before....

Now his power and skill were considerably less and jumping head first into such a frenzy would only get himself and maybe the others killed as well.

Crouching down the Dragoon Knight picked his target carefully and just as the foul birdman was deep in a spell cast at the Galka, Tyrisian let loose with his newly learned JUMP skill cutting off the spellcaster and bringing a wide spurt of blood for the point of his lance. Ember his wyvern went for the Yags eyes just in time to allow the Hume to leap back and prepare another attack.

Tyrisian was sorely dissapointed when the beastman shruged off the attack and quickly lashed out sending him to his knees in pain far too easily. Rolling to the side he gripped his lance in both hands and shoved it into the spellcasters knee and with a desperate twist brought the Yagudo to the ground where Tyr pinned it with his weapon and knife in hand went for the creatures throat. Before he got there his world went black as pain erupted in his skull.

Awareness returned slowly in a swirl of voices and pain tinted darkness. Trying to move almost slipped him back into unconsciousness, instead he attempted to catch his breath as he hoped the others were in much better condition than he was...

(( BTW welcome to all our new additions as well as my fellow NB's!! ))

The mithra stood. She held her blade at an angle that allowed her to cut in any direction, if she perceived an incoming attack. She smiled, though it seemed out of habit rather than anything.

“Sometimes you need to have leverage when asking for a favor. In this case, your life was on the line. Seeing as you didn’t want to spill unnecessary bloody, and your Galka friend did not kill me on sight, I see you are just the people I want. You even have the sight... a tool very useful in where we are going…”

She fingered a scar on the side of her face, running up the length of her chin to her ear.

“I have information that costed me dearly, and I need to have someone let me know if it is valid. It rests in the Boyhada Tree… a dangerous place without a group.”

"You risk quite a bit to get what you want.", replied Brin as he remained in Alyada's grasp. "Breaking the law to get my help when all you had to do was ask. I will go of course.......but I can assure you will more than likely face consequences to your actions in the future. I pray for you my friend."

Voldai growled as he said, "He has agreed to your demands.......now let him go."

"Now...Everyonearu just stay calm.." The diminuative tarutaru said softly, motioning for everyone to simmer down with small movements of his hands. "Theres been enougharu bloodshed for one day." Slowly, he moved away from the assembled group over toward the fallen dragoon who'd taken the brunt of the damage from the battle.

Dropping to a knee beside him, making his form just that much smaller, Veovis whispered a brief incantation:

"Altana, let this one be within your blessings...Heal his wounds with swift care."

As the words left his lips, his eyes slipped shut and he was surrounded by a brilliant light. Just as quickly, ribbons of blue and red and yellow surrounded the dragoon, enveloping him in their soft glow. His wounds began to repair themselves as if from their own accord, regenerating the rent flesh.

"You should be fine soon, Tyrisian." he said, a smile touching his round face, his cheeks involuntarily dimpling. Rising from the kneel, he swung his gaze back towards the situation at hand.

"The Galka is right, he agreed to your demandy-wandys. Release the mage."

Alyada stepped away. They were right, she might be desperate, but she was no killer. Her cold demeanor did not falter.

“I appreciate the kindness, and there will be payment,” she fingered a large bag of gil at her side. “If gil does not fit your fancy, well, I am a woman of many talents.”

She looked at the small taru, healing the bloodied dragoon. He had a calm and gentle face. Reminded her of…

“Will you be joining us, young Taru?”

Voldai walked over to Brin, who was rubbing his neck, as he watched the mithra carefully. Brin put his hand on the galka's shoulder as he said, "Do not worry......there is time my friend. The Sanctuary of Zi'tah holds an item that we'll need......think of this as a small detour."

Voldai set his scythe back upon his back and said, "She is a shady character...I do not trust her."

Brin reassured his friend as he said, "She is only desperate......and does not seem to have ill intentions."

Turning to Alyada, Brin told her, "I do not need your gil. I can help you......but if we are to go, we must do so quickly. I am limited on time."

Alyada nodded.

My time on this earth is limited too, Elvaan...

She quickly lead down the worn path that would, inexorably, pull them towards the Yagudo strong hold, and beyond it, the great tree...

Tyrisian came too in time to see the healing light fade from Veo's hands. As the taru stood Tyr said, "Once more I am in your debt, Sir Priest. Thank-you."

The former Paladin regained his feet and tried to catch up on the situation around him.

"Never would I hold you in debt," Veovis said to Tyrisian, beaming a wide smile up at his longtime friend. "It would be advised, however, that we helparu these three in their persuity-wooty.. The white mage has power, this is true, but his power is yet untapped. The galka follows him blindly, placing his rage before his skill..much akin to his kind."

He looked over them briefly, and nodded to Alyada. "The great Lady of Mysteries led me to this place..Who am I to argue with destiny?"

Sweeping his small arm before himself, he bowed over it, formal. Obviously well educated. "I am Veovis, Bishop of Windurst. At your service..."

A twig snapping in the distance caught his overly-sensative ears. He whirled to face where Brin was, but found only the demented, cruel ranger before him. The one who'd tried to slay him just a few miles from the very ground they stood upon.

"...Produn!?" He grit his teeth. There was yet a bounty on his head, as far as he knew, and Produn had been the only one who'd tried to collect on it. "This charade has gone on long enough..."

....

Tyrisian smiled at his old friend and nodded towards him in agreement. It had been a long time since they had seen each other, and once more their meeting brought together old friends and old rivals, as well as new problems.

Looking from the Ranger to the blind Elvaan Tyr realized he was far from the only one changed from their previous encounter, but the Galka and the Mithra were unknown to him.

Wondering if Produn even recognized him the Dragoon Knight gripped his lance tightly knowing in his present state he was far below the skill needed to face the Bastokian. Willing to listen to this Mithra and her quest he stood by and watched how things played out.

Alyada twitched as Veovis introduced himself.

Bishop of Windurst…

She looked at the snarling Ranger who, as it seemed, had come to collect Veovis’ head. Her katana was drawn instantly.

“I have no time for petty bickering. If you wish to take the Taru, you will go through me first.”

It wasn't long before his Lord's anger could be felt. Moods like this had been known to disrupt weather patterns - most usually, Konschtat Highlands. Thunderstorms shattered the skies, illuminating eerie shadows of trees and monsters alike. It sent a splintering chill through the spines of his servants. Lord Arctyrael felt it, grinding, soothing. Something had displeased his Lord, and he was about to find out what it was.

Rounding the corner on his way into the opressive fortress, he walked with a defiant yet submissive gate. Spires delineated the sky in a striking prowess. The interior no less impressive as torches flickered over the bloodstained walls. He quickly averted his eyes as he entered the room where he would find his master. In the corner, Arctyrael noticed the familiar azure glow of magic. It writhed, accumulated, then slowly dispersed only to continue its never ending cycle of life. It wasn't long before his master, his Lord spoke.

???: "The expedition to recover Veovis as well as the Censor failed!"

It was at this point that Arctyrael knew he was in trouble. He had assured his lord his plan was full proof. The agreement with the Oztroja master was that they would execute the dirty work in taking care of these scum.

The hissing continued. His master was clearly iirked by this new turn of events. He had expected to continue his plan today. Veovis was to be dead. Dead!

???: "Arctyrael, you've disappointed me,""You make a mockery of everything we are doing by sending those bumbling FOOLS to take care of what you should have done yourself! I expect you have something that shall remedy this immediately!

Almost immediately Arctyrael felt his extremities lose all feeling. In truth, he was unsure of himself since his encounter with the unknown Mithra. He was clearly stronger, more powerful, more seasoned than this mithra. There was no doubt to this he was sure. It must have been something the Mithra posessed that he did not understand. Worse yet, his innersight had felt this presence growing, evolving, strengthening since the encounter. He had thought of informing his master of this, but was unable to face the possible consequences of doing so. He looked down at his hand. He had petrified the young Mithra and delivered what should have been a killing blow with his hand. He was a tarutaru, but he was no shoveoff. His magically augmented physical attacks rivaled even that of the strongest dark knights. However, at the very instant he contacted the Mithra, both were thrown back explosively. The Mithra poised for action had landed nimbly on the ground ready to attack. However, not prepared for such a reaction, he had stupidly allowed his gaurd to fall. It was only at the last minute that he warped out before becoming a slice of bluetail.

With a renewed self affirmation of his powers, he looked up - still not making eye contact - and nodded to his master. Arctyrael pulled out a scroll, and with a blazing fire, disappeared.

It had not been long that he had last strolled the deserts of Tahrongi Canyon. Today however, it was exceptionally hot. As he approached the crag, he sensed strong magic - that of Veovis. Surprisingly, he also sensed that of the foe he faced a fortnight prior. Slipping into the darkness, Arctyrael inched ever closer to the group, listening as he went. It seemed the unknown Mithra had made a demand, to which the adventurers had hastily come to agree to. It seemed he would soon be visiting The Sanctuary of Zitah. For now however, he had one objective. Veovis was not to live, but most importantly, the Censor was to be retrieved unharmed.

With that, he stepped out and made his presence known. As he did, he dropped some herbs engulfing the area in a circle of decay. The only way out, was now through him.

((There, I have no introduced a conflict - sorry it took so long. *EDIT* I suppose I should have mentioned something about Produn seeing as how it now seems 2 people want Veovis. I ask the next poster determine how Produn and I fit into this *EDIT* minor change to character))

Alyada straightened as a wind began to blow easterly, to her back. Even the tree's, clouds, and animals began to look east. Her nostrils flared as she searched for the source of the power. A powerful force was making its way towards them.

The realization caught her off guard.

Him..

She snatched the Taru white mages hand,

"We must go, hurry. No time." She said, her eyes darting off towards the east. Towards the Crag of Mea...

So much was happening so quickly, the white mage was simply taken aback. The arrival of Produn surely made things interesting. Even more dangerous was the arrival of this new individual.....his dark soul was quite evident. There was no time to get into a fight though. More importantly, it seemed the ranger was after the priest who had helped him in the battle agaisnt the yagados.

Brin spoke softly as he said, "The ranger.....he is another assassin sent by the same dark lord just as the ninjas hade been sent. Voldai.....were going to teleport to the crag, so be ready to grab a chocobo."

Voldai cocked an eyebrow as the hulking galka said, "Were taking her as well?" The galka motioned toward Alyada and Brin shook his head "yes". "But why Brin?", asked Voldai. "this mithra held you hostage....and your still going to help her?"

Brin replied, "No time to explain my friend. Just trust me." And with a flash of light, the spell of Teleport-Mea took hold of Brin, Voldai, Alyada, Veovis, and Tyrisian.

(( So that everyone knows, Produn was sent to assasinate Veovis by Ta'bael (Evil Brin). This was RP'd in our shell some time ago. ))

Glowering, his aggravation subsided momentarily after the escape. Arctyrael hid himself within his cloak. His eyes as deep as the ocean glinted azure, then as suddenly as they had, his figure twisted painlessly to the shadows. It wasn't Veovis he was after now, but that would be soon, for his master would not wait long.

Just as a streak of lightning illuminates the night skies, he had instantly recognized the Mithra. More importantly, the puzzling event a fortnight prior was as lucid as diamond. He smirked. In that one instant of eye contact, the Mithra knew precisely who he was, and yet, the Mithra was but a mere vessel. True, the Mithra retained her thoughts, but also had a 'seeing' eye, a gift not granted to many.

It was with only the most adept mages with which the ebb and tide of Vanadiel's energy rested. It was true, he had mastered the arts of the black magic, much further beyond that of the Schools of Windurst. Although he admired their attempts to recreate the magic of lore, mostly that of the lunatic Shantotto. Musing, Arctyrael silently fell into the destructive energy, emerging in Konschtat. It was with a full gait that he trudged onward to Gusgen Mines. He relished the day this place fell to his once numerous forces, the hatred still burned at the thought of its loss. Now mostly abandoned, he traveled openly, destroying anything that stood in his way. (OoC: RMT! Destroy the RMT!)

He had to check the resting sight of the Katana he last saw during the Crystal War. Assuming he was right, as he was sure that he was, he might yet have another chance of regaining access to the ancient tomes beyond the fifth crystal of the northlands. His thoughts fell back to 20 years prior. It was here in Konschtat which he assumed the identity of an innocent tarutaru ambassador. It was the only way he could gain the information he needed, shrugging off the slaying as if it were nothing. Quickly shaking off his thoughts, he was already upon the very chamber he had only once stood before. Only this time, it did not house the Katana, and the powerful seal had been broken. Gleefully, Arctyrael warped to the entrance and once again faded into the Zilartian channels of energy. He would be in The Sanctuary soon.
