Hello! I am a student at the University of California, San Diego, and I am taking a computer game studies course. We have an assignment to play an MMO and interview players about their experience, so if you have a second, please help me out!
You can answer all the questions or as many as you'd like. If you played FFXI at one time but don't anymore, you can still answer!

-What is your name in the game?
-How often do you play?
-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)?
-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?

Thanks for your time. My name is Ahlmond on Leviathan. /wave if you see me!

-What is your name in the game?
Myrrh

-How often do you play?

Well, before transplant it was basically 14 hours a day. Now after my transplant I play maybe 3-7 hours depending on pain/friends.

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?

I only started playing because my friends in high school played and I wanted to understand what the fuck they were talking about. Now I only continue to play because I love all my friends and being logged in makes me feel comfortable. It's the one thing that has always been consistent in my life.

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
Made friends ingame, played and still play with Real life friends.

There are many things wrong with this game and I don't feel like writing them all out.

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?

Fucked if I know.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Yes, I'm treated like a fucking god because I'm awesome.

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?

God, I have so many that I don't even know where to begin. I have memories from my first encounter with a stranger, to my worst FFXI memory, to my massive trolling, to my starting a LS and seeing my friends and I kick all sorts of ass.

Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?
Who the fuck plays XIV?

-What is your name in the game?
Hexx

-How often do you play?
Used to play about 5+ hours a day, now I'm down to maybe 3-5 every two days or so.

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
Initially, was a good friend of mine, but got pretty bored until I joined an active linkshell and from there on out it was the friendships I made that kept me going (and still do, just not as much).

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
Yes to all in this case. I initially had only one RL friend that played, but he quit a few months afterwards. After that it was all in-game friends that I became friends with in real life as well.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
Its all group oriented, unless you're farming or working on trial stuff, and even then some of that is more fun when done as a group

-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)?
There are a lot of problems, most have been somewhat addressed but there are still a few glitches here and there.

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
Yes and no. Some players do treat you differently, but then again there's jerks on both sides.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Not that I'm aware of. At least I dont.

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
Too many to go over really, but there have been plenty of both good and bad ones.

Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare? I only played FFXIV when it first came out and it sucked, but I've heard much headway has been made towards improving the game.

-What is your name in the game? Serigala
-How often do you play? 5 hours daily (before I quit close to two years ago)
-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing? The community motivated me to continue playing, long after my love for the game itself began to dwindle, as well as the luxury items in the game that would make one stand out amongst others. I don't consider myself elitist when I played, but I did want to make my character have elite-esque gear so that I could be looked up to. Also, I wanted to be the best melee white mage :P
-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination? When I first started I was playing with friends from real life in a linkshell together, but as they grew bored of the game and left, I came to befriend many others that I did not know of or had no interaction in real life with. Some of those friends I actually became close with and did in fact get to meet in real life, and there are a few that I still to this day consider close friends and keep in contact with.
-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone? I have had a lot of linkshells in my time, and many of them were specialized into a specific type of event or activity. There were event linkshells that did dynamis, limbus, einherjar, a combination of all 3, and an HNM linkshell, but I also had a few social shells. I feel that leveling up was encouraged alone, as I rarely leveled with people from my linkshell, and for event linkshells it was expected that you would be a certain level in a certain job, but leveling during event time was forbidden, so one had to manage their time around these said events. That didn't always work for me, as you can imagine.
-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)? We've all heard it by now, how the developers were lackluster in customer service, but were still successful in keeping us hooked. One issue I had was how intensely competitive some gear was to attain, as with the lack of drops (though, abyssea seems to have cleared this problem up from what I hear).
-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)? The Japanese players, when I first started playing, did seem to huddle together in an exclusive fashion away from the North American players. Because they were a year ahead of us when they first began, they had an advantage in going to new events and attaining everything first. Since then I don't think this is as much a problem, but there are times when it felt like they didn't want to associate themselves with me because I wasn't Japanese.
-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player? Well, if you weren't of a certain level, you couldn't do a certain event. This rings true for anyone. Considering most of us by now have at least one job at 75 (or 90 at this point?) I don't believe this to be a problem anymore.
-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share? One thing I particularly enjoyed about FFXI back in the day, was the drama. This game, compared to other MMOs, is very realistic to how people would act in real life. HNM camping, while boring, had its perks in that there would be drama over who gets the loot, or drama over a NM being stolen after claim. Better yet, mass-party-killing, or MPK, was hilarious and made for many memories and stories for times to come. You can go to any server's forums and find drama related to MPK and the hilarity that ensued by these stories.
My favorite memories though were my earliest ones, where I would be doing events or missions with friends from my linkshell. It wasn't required, points or attendance weren't taken, it was just good, clean, voluntary fun, and sometimes hilarity did ensue.
The game today is not the same as it was back when it first came out. It has evolved so much since I began, and will likely continue to evolve. I might be back someday, because I like some of the casual changes they've been making. As long as the community lives on, this game will never die, and even though I've been gone a long time, it really is amazing how crisp and clear my memories are, with people that I've never even seen or met in real life. Despite this, I can consider some of these people friends, and I have FFXI to thank for that, even though it sucked 6 years of my life away. Lol.

Hi there! Hope this helps ya ^^

-What is your name in the game? Reauland

-How often do you play? Somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 days a week.

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing? I was a Final Fantasy nut from way back. It was always my favorite RPG series, so I thought I'd give their MMO a go. I met so many great people (many of whom still play), and that's a huge part of what keeps me comin back - the community of players. Well, the players and all those shineys and accomplishments :P

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination? Lotsa in-game friends, all met through in-game interaction.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
The list is too long to state in any concise form - we level together, do missions together, quest together, you name it. Most quests (most) don't require much teamwork, so of all the content, I think they were the one thing initially conceived by the dev team to be solo content.

-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)? I think they do a fair job of keeping the player base happy. There's room for improvement, but if you gripe enough, they generally get around to addressing issues (and the occasional wish) sooner rather than later . . . (unless it's letting Bsts zone with their pets ><)

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)? Yes, but I'm not going to speak in generalizations. There remains, after all these years, a tendency of the Japanese to keep to themselves. I've joined in missions, xp parties, and quests with players from all over the world, but of all the other cultures with which we're in contact, Asian cultures stand out to me as somewhat standoffish and insular.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player? That used to be the case. Back in the day, low levels were a good indicator of "newbishness". These days, it's relatively easy to max out level and still not know what you're doing. That used to be relatively rare; now it's far more ubiquitous.

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share? All I'm going to say here is Mungus. Mungus is leet.(Thank you, Anderoc XD)

Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare? I don't play XIV. Is there anything else I can answer for extra credit? :P

Not sure if you still need this for your assignment, but what the heck. I will fill it out anyways since FFXI is down for who knows how long anyways and I need something to do:

-What is your name in the game?
Chronofantasy

-How often do you play?
It varies day by day but lately I'm playing around 10-15 hours per day.

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
I've been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series ever since I started playing FF7 back around 1997 or 1998. I really can't remember which of these two years I started but I know it was a little before FF8 came out. I was looking at all the previews of this game years before it even came out but I couldn't afford to play the game until 2005 when I finally got my own credit card at age 18. I took many breaks here and there, while the longest being almost a year and a half all at once. I still play today because of friends and the need to improve my character and achieve a lot of personal ingame goals.

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
I never really had many real life friends play this game with me. I had maybe two real life friends that started the game way after I did but they only played the game for a week or two and then stopped playing. I have a lot of friends on my server and I'm quite well known on the server. I don't think I met anyone else online elsewhere who started playing FFXI after I did.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
At the moment I'm in a very large linkshell that usually has approx 30-40 people in the shell at one time during primetimes. The shell doesn't really do much besides Abyssea, but nowadays everyone seems to only do Abyssea stuff. I think more stuff outside of Abyssea should be organized within the shell.

-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)?
Abyssea has sure sped things up for lvlling at higher lvls and for those who sneak in on a lower lvl to leech their jobs up. The game needs to find a better way to get lowbies and new players to come together though. Otherwise the game seems quite balanced but there's always room for improvements and new things being added or adjusted would be a plus.

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
Not quite. People are all the same no matter what language or culture they are. You have your assholes and good natured people with all kinds of people. I've done stuff with Japanese people ingame quite a lot as well as EU people and perhaps other people around the world.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Not really. I get questioned a lot from players a lower level than me though for advice on a job they wish to level and such. I always feel good to help these players with advice.

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
I have had many bad and good times in FFXI. There are days I want to quit the game and I can get quite frustrated with the game or the stupidity of people (There is a lot of retards/selfish people in FFXI) I've also had many good times too. My best times in the game were during my newbie days while taking my first job, Red mage, to 75. I also led a popular linkshell at this time that eventually gained a lot of members before the shell had its falling out. That linkshell created the best times and memories for me in this game as my shell did many things in the game and all the new experiences and sights were magical and memorable. I have other good memories with friends ingame too. Hard work and earning new achievements ingame are also great memories of mine too.

Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?
I've tried FFXIV for a little while. I played it for about two weeks or so, starting from the day it came out a week earlier before the official release. It was fun for a little while even though everything about it seemed awkward. The game just didn't have that same feel to me that FFXI did when I first played it. It didn't feel like I was exploring in new territory and a wide spread gameplay for the first time like I did in FFXIV. The mood of FFXIV was lacking. The only beautiful thing about FFXIV is its music and graphics, but the content of FFXIV is pretty much fail. If FFXI had FFXIV's music and graphics, than FFXI would totally be a complete win of a game. At least that's my opinion on the comparison of these two.

-What is your name in the game?

Tribalinius

-How often do you play?

First time around: 10h/week
Second time around: 14h/day
Now: Too much work

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
First time around: My mother passed away and I needed a place to escape the irl drama that goes with it. Ironically, I was trying to be alone in a game that interacts with humans.

Second time around: Doc ordered me to stay still for a good 2 years or so. No sports, no "heavy duty" stuff. Hell, he didn't even wanted to do cleaning ffs Oo.

What made me choose FFXI on the other hand is my now long lost fanboyism for everything squaresoft made in the past. More specifically Final Fantasy of course.

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?

I made some good friends and met some interesting people. People that I would play, discuss with and have a blast with them too. I met some people in real life too. I'm still in touch with a lot of them actually. But for the most part, for me, it was logging in with my friends every night at 6 and having fun until midnight :3.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?

Usual scheduled stuff: dynamis, sea, limbus, sky, einherjar, etc.

Most of the other stuff, we were always 2-3 friends together farming, exping doing burning circles and stuff. I don't recall doing a lot of stuff alone even at the end except soloing jobs like dancer in-between 2 parties/events.

-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)?

nothing as far as I'm concerned.

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?

Naw not really, actually it was a good thing. Most of the people I met did not treat me like an outcast or anything. The same people could actually tell you that I made a lot of improvement in the course of that intensive 2 years game session :). I learned a lot of English just by having a dictionary at my side when I was younger.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player

As time passes you get experience out of this game, as time passes you get a reputation to yourself too. Reputation has a big part of that. If you apply for a ls with a curriculum vitae the size of a toilet paper roll, maybe that's because you know what you're doing. We all had that guy in our LSes somewhere in the past. It's all about the attitude too. I always tended to be the relaxed frenchy guy with the wackiest sense of humor you could get, but hey, I was widely accepted. On the other hand, if you're a dickhead good for nothing scumbag, well you'll get the gossip you deserve, sorry for you :).

In all my years, I never felt treated differently nor I asked to be. I always tried my best, followed directives from my leaders, for the best or the worst and showed on time for every event I signed for. The result, I knew that my leaders could count on me no matter the situation.

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?

Ventrilo implosion when I finally got my Valor Surcoat anyone? lol. About every jokes on my gimp DRG (leaping boots ftw). Dynamis-San d'Oria with Davion. My first fights against KB, Nid, etc. CoP. Evening with Rhay duoing stuff.

Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?

The 2 games are different. Enjoying FFXI more :).

-What is your name in the game?
Araine
-How often do you play?
I played every hour of the day minus 7ish hours for school. I never slept because of it and I wrote all of my papers on it. XD
-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
My older brother played and got me addicted. The community was amazing, it's what kept me playing.
-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
I met my best of friends on there. Online friends are real friends! :D
-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
I've been in many linkshells but mostly we just did expansion missions, campaign, and party. I don't really think you should do anything alone in game other than farming, friends make it fun! :3
-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
Most Japanese people, when I played, would always have "JPONRY" in their party comment.. not all of them were like that though.
-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
No, everyone in game is very helpful. If you're a low level there's plenty of people willing to help you level and get farther on into the game.
-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
Climbing the tower for ACP. My party linked the entire tower.. good times. XD
Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?

FFXIV is definitely more repetitive than FFXI was. They both have their ups and downs though. FFXIV isn't finished, once they add more it'll be better. c:

-How often do you play?
It varies, couple hours to a few hours every day or every other day, depending on my mood, fatigue and work schedule, etc,

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
hm, well I used to watch my then boyfriend(now fiancee) play all the time then i wanted to play, cuz FFXI looked fun :). what keeps me playing...a mixture of things really, I only get to see fiancee ~once a wk so in-game interaction helps, FFXI gives me something to do at home when im bored, Ive got entertaining friends on the game, and quite honestly Ive got so much i wanna still get done in this game! xD

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
well to start i had my fiancee who introduced me to the game in the first place, Ive made lots of friends while on the game, btwn linkshells, random interactions from parties and everyday activities. And even got to meet a few of my game friends irl who lived somewhat locally (and a Canadian that came to NY to visit us!) meeting game friends u enjoy company of in-game, in real life is awesomeness.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
hmm. Well there was event-based linkshells like Dynamis of course. but as far as social linkshells went it was mostly stuff that you couldnt get done solo, whether a whole bunch of linkshell members partied up to kill a hi lvl NM or BCNM fight, also helping lowbie linkshell members farm subjob items that perhaps they couldnt get themselves - (majicked skull from gusgen mines for example lol.)

-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)? Im sure there is but nothing i can think of at the moment. I <3 Abyssea EXP & the increase in EXP gained in non-abyssea zones <3<3

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
only if I want in a event that the group goes...JP ONLY! but no there is sometimes a cultural/language barrier within the game but im sure u will find that anywhere you go in the online gaming world. but because of this game i have friends from all over the world (USA-Canada-Belgium-England-singapore-etc etc) I love it! I have no complaints on that note. :)

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Not usually, I think when lower level ppl get treated poorly its usually cuz of their attitude or noobish play style. but as people have said before i see above, When i was a lower lvl there was always someone willing to help me achieve my goals, and when i come across a lowbie who needs help or advice it feels great being able to teach them something they didn't know before

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
most of my fun experiences are with close FFXI-friends or my fiancee, so many great experiences since March 2007 i cant think of any that stand out more then others. but getting charmed in Dynamis was always entertaining - once i had my whole charmed linkshell after me and my fiancee got the kill-shot on me XD now that's love right there! lol. or perhaps that one time um a certain someone(i wont name names today) BROKE dynamis-jeuno(quite literally...pulling nm too early = whole zone linking with it = totally glitched zone that freezes x.x) so many memories...

Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?
I haven't played enough of FFXIV to compare, as u can see under my name I only have a level 4 lalafell, it was just an extra char i made on my fiancees account, and was only playing with for one day but that was during the first couple wks after release so needless to say it wasn't too exciting at that point.

Yes, I'm treated like a fucking god
I'll agree with this statement. However, I'd have to say the specific god to which he's referring is likely Uranus.

Yes, I'm treated like a fucking god because I'm awesome.

Ok this seriously made me want to fill mine in.
Confused

-How often do you play?
Every day, usually 2-3 hours weeknights, 5-8 hours weekends

-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
I wanted to play every one of the main Final Fantasy games, in order. I got to this one in January, and the expansive world and wonderful people I've met has got me hooked :)

-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
A combination. I have one friend from real life I play with, and a group of about four regulars I've met in game.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
I have one friend around the same rank as me, so we often do missions together. If not doing that, that's when I meet up with the other friends I have in game to train our jobs together, with levelsync it's worth everyone's while even at different levels.

-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)?

I think the game is rock solid, I've only been playing a couple of months so I'm sure many of the issues people had have been refined over the years. The only aspect I'm not that happy with is the user interface/GUI. It could be modernized/cleaner.

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
Not really.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Not really, except ocassionaly when people realize I'm new to the game they often times offer help.

-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
Funniest moment was hanging around in the Dunes waiting for a party member who's character had no pants. When other players saw this one person ran back with him to Selbina to trade him some. When he came back, there were about twenty of us, all genders and races, and everyone started clapping for him because he got his pants. It went on for literally five to ten minutes :)

Saddest moment was when another new player who was very friendly got fed up with the game and decided to log off forever. He came and found me to tell me, gave me all of his money, and equipment, then sat down to log off forever. A couple bystanders I didn't know saw the whole ordeal, and I was admittedly saddened by the situation. They used the comfort emote on me and tried to cheer me up.

-What is your name in the game?
Seteyu
-How often do you play?
When I first started: Way more time than I should have
Now: A few hours a day, more so on weekends.
-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing?
I first started playing when I watched a fellow floormate at university (who is/was a huge FF buff) take the plunge at get it. I bought my copy less than 24h later. Why do I still play? To be useful, and to try to maintain that fragile social link to the players I know who still play
-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination?
A combination. A group of us at university started playing at about the same time, we static'd till roughly level 50 (main reason why pld/whm worked). As it stands, of that original group, I'm the only one left (pretty sure anyways). And I sure made friends in game. I wouldn't drive over ~1200 kilometers (with no cruise control) one way to meet some of them for nothing :P
-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
Together: nearly everything. Sure it's a lot easier to solo/low man stuff nowadays, but it's still feels (to me) geared towards groups. As for solo, crafting, esp fishing screams "solo"
-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)?
I feel that the game is treated fairly well. I wish pld got some more love, but that's just me. I am a white mage at heart though. Recent patches has helped improve the solo face of leveling, to the point that I can take jobs I have no intention of taking past sub cap, and solo them. I'll party with jobs I want to actually *use*. And I fucking HATE my accuracy. Anyone who knows me knows I bitch about this.
-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
Heh, in the years gone by, I was mistaken for being female because I play a female taru. Or I get a WTF your taru is a girl!? (It was for the hair) Other than that, I've never been treated differently. Or maybe I've just not noticed? I don't make a big deal over anything really.
-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Hasn't happened. Sure when I was a noob, but that passed quickly enough. (fuzzy memory back when that might have mattered.)
-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share?
Tanking sky bosses that are a million times larger than me and not dying (or dying horribly, either was still fun)
Helping new players get over the initial hurdle of starting out. I got some high level random assistance when I first started out, so I do the same.
Sitting at the dunes zone back when trains still existed, raising people as required. (I see dead people~)
Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare?
FFXIV is goddamn gorgeous, my Lalafell is adorable, but without the social interaction I got from starting FFXI I can't seem to get into it. (I'm also waiting to see what SE does with it honestly) FFXI is a known quantity, with people I've possibly known for years. I've mentioned it before, but if not for the LS's (and therefore the people I've met) I been in, I'd of quit years ago.

All hail Myrrh, the god of Uranus~

Cheers~

-What is your name in the game? Confused
-How often do you play?as much as i can mostly.
-What about FFXI motivated you to play initially, and what keeps you playing? the game was a birthday present my bf had played for 2 years before i started and i played with him mostly in the begining and my friend Bilkster
-Did you make friends in the game, play with friends from real life, friends you made elsewhere online, a combination? I made some really good friends in the game. i couldnt list them all but if any read this they know who they are. I also think of them as real life freinds and they know this.
-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? I try top solo what i can but have more fun playing with friends. About feeling pressured wern't we all preassured to do COP. I mean really.
-How do you feel the world is managed? Is there any problem with the game you feel has not been acknowledged by the developers (speed of leveling, balance between players and enemies, ability to find people to play with, etc.)? I think personally the game has become to easy. More like wow. i leveled up old school (at least my most important jobs). Id like to see some of the new players do it that way..(maybe we wouldnt have so many gimp whitemages on the server then)..Thats right i said it...
-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)? I dont feel thet I am. I staticed my rdm in a Japanese static party.. I learned to communicate well enough.
-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player? Do you mean like because I am a whitemage and can power level? Because no I dont feel I am...
-Anything else particularly quirky about FFXI, or any specific memories you'd like to share? I have a ton of memories like parting with Hexx with him on dancer shaking his ass and shouting I LOVE THIS JOB!, Doing COP with Rockie the airship fight and how it sucked ass, All my great memories of the Leonine linkshell all the great advice i got from Marx and Tyco. The way Jeiger is my friend but still was a great leader.
Bonus: If you play FFXIV: How do XI and XIV compare? I dont play FFXIV

Aw hell, I suppose I could do it for shits and giggles.

Recently returned - Daily

My brother started playing it and I was a FF Fan, as well as he was. I had to start playing it because it looked so different to all other Final Fantasy's that I had played in the past.

I played with my brother. I also made alot of friends with people from all over the world. I even kept in contact with someone I stayed with in Japan via FFXI.

-What activities in the game do you and your linkshell (or other groups of players) do together? Is there anything that you feel is encouraged to be done alone?
I don't have a LS. When I did, we just talked.

I can't really say. I'm happy that they've changed the world so much over the years to appeal to those that can't party with others due to their time zones or just can't find a party in general.

-Are you treated differently by people based on the language they speak (or other cultural difference)?
No.

-Are you treated differently based on the level you are relative to another player?
Yes. They liked to help me get on my feet when I was beginning back in the day.

The day a random elvaan asked me on a date. FFXI isn't a dating service, it's a MMORPG. XD It was quite weird. Quickly removed from my friends list, he was. Myes. :P
