Hello! This is basically directed to all 75 BSTs or those who know about the gear to use....I just started BST and got LVL 31 but I've been wondering, What is the best gear for BST at 70-75? I've found plenty of equipment guides but none tell what is the best they just tell what is equipable but if som1 could list the best gear for each DD, Charm, soloing, /whm i would greatly appreciate......all info is certainly valid and feel free to include things that are somewhat difficult to obtain like Kirin's Osode and what not anywho Thank You.

well, to be a good bst youll need charm gear ws gear and defense gear.
So wrap your mind around that.If not personally I would go with charm+ cuz missing charm at higher lvls could be deadly

Well, this is a very generic question. First, you need to tell us what your intent in bst'ing is. Weather it is to solo only, or to party, or to HNM.

If you're gonna Soro - basically bst's advise you to go a mix of acc & str, weather it's wielding a nice axe (Woodies) and Hauby, so you can finish off your T prey.
If you're planning on partying, it's basically like a "Gimp War", where you stack up on acc and eat sushi, using CC so you can kinda fit in as a DD, focusing on str&dex&acc for rampages between 70-75.

The good thing about bst is that your pets (your whole pt) doesn't care what you wear in terms of gear. Bst are amazing solo'ers cause we charm stuff to fight for us, and only then do we start to melee to finish stuff up.

Yesterday i was in a 66'ish pt in Caedarva Mire vs. Imps and our main DD was a 65 bst who charmed (EM) leeches in the tunnels to do most damage. Even mach or even DC pets can do a lot of damage in a regular exp pt, as long as camp supports it. So don't underestimate bst as a pt regular.

Back to topic, however, it depends on how you want to mold your bst to. At higher lvls, as bst, i have a very heavy DD like build, with Acc & Str build so i can effectively solo T-VT mobs with only one pet, thus making 250+ a kill. Some other bsts decide to play it safer, with a charm based, MP based build for longer lasting chains, solo that is.

So it all varies on how you want to play your job... Let me know if you need any bst advice, TheFlock is always open to new bsts ^^

Cheers
Dej

I hate to contradict Yuber cause he's always cool, but Def gear imo, as a bst, plays no role at all. I hardly ever get hit, if ever as bst. Especially after 35. Bst basically gets to know the fine line in "hate" better than any other job aside pld. We know what can take hate off our pet and what not. So after you get a hang of bst, you'll know when to join into a fight so you can do damage and never pull hate off your pet...
Anyways, this is my opinion alone, of course.. ^^

Cheers and GL

Add to that, if you're going to get hit, you're going hit, hard, like a truck, or several trucks.

Key things to note:

CHR increases charm success rate
Charm+ increases duration of charm.

The only charm gear you need is an apollo staff and your AF. I haven't noticed any major improvement with more chr and charm gear than that.

I swear by the apollo staff, however, it makes a big difference when charming difficult mobs like mandys and slimes.

Let's see if I can remember my melee gear.

Ohat
Hauby
Ruby Rings x2
Temperance Torque
Life Belt
Ogre Ledlesans <sp> I should really replace these LOL
Thick Gloves
Thick Pants
Tipha Sting
Tatami Sheild
Ahamet Mantle +1

adding that for under 1k tnl your acc and charm starts to decrease and will kill you easily (fun right?)

if you want to duo on your bst /tell me I have a 30 bst that I dont want to touch because I have no buffer on it ^_^;

I'll always be a Blm at heart, but Bst was one helluva fun job for me.
I basically had 2 sets of gear, charm and melee, 2 macro's to change into each. This list is from memory, so I'll probably miss something.

Charm:
Apollo
AF/AF2 head, body, hands, pants, feet
2 X Melody Earrings
2 X loyalty rings
Bird Whistle
Corsette +1

Melee
Juggy
offhand maneater (if /nin) / Strike Shield
Ohat / Turban (at 75)
Hauby +1
Dusk Trousers and gloves
Tiphia Sting (/Nin) / Hedgehog bomb
Merman's / Brutal (75)
Assault
sniper
Rajas
PCC
Marine M boots

Well in that case you might want to add the following factors:

EXP to next level
Reraise (I said it before, I'll stay it again. When it's up, you're most likely NOT to die. Infact, you'll be invincible and can literally do anything. The moment it wears off, your "engines" are gone and you will get crippled. Fast. Unless you re-apply it)
Charm Rate. Was it successful for the last 50 charms? Then the game will most likely fuck you with a mischarm that you crucially need to finish off monster/NM/run away.

Misc. Factors:
Moon Phase (real life)
Position your keyboard is in.
Days left until Jesus comes back.

Just curious, by why would you mainhand Juggy and offhand Maneater when Maneater has the higher base damage? ^^;

Stack CHR gear for Charm, and lots of it - "Should be able to charm" is something many misinterpret in terms of success rate. You get "should be able to" at about 75%+ success, which means there's still quite a large gap for failure if you don't have enough CHR.

Generally, "+Charm" gear, while it has it's uses, is in my opinion only good for mobs that have Resist Charm (Mandragora, Hecteyes, Slimes) since it's rumored that those traits not only lower success rate, but also lower duration as well. It's also good for raising charm duration vs T+ mobs, but I generally have never found too much of a use for it when it comes to EM- pets, as the mob you're fighting should generally be long dead before your natural charm's effect wears off.

BST don't really get any terribly good helmets or footwear for quite a while - unless you have Voyager Sallet and/or RSE Feet that provide a good benefit to BST, you may want to start using Crow Beret/Shoes so you can somewhat safely gain TP off the mob so that you can finish it off with Rampage. Some would suggest using Emp Hairpin which can work for a while, but I'd honestly recommend Crow Beret over the Hairpin as well once it becomes available.

Gaudy Harness is a BST's best friend - It gives you Auto-Refresh up to 49mp if you're below that mark, which is roughly all the MP you'll typically need in a post-50 unless you get hate alot. Take this advice with a grain of salt though since if you get a link, stray agro or mischarm, 49mp may not be enough to save you so you may still want to take the occasional rest to be safe.

Try not to actually melee in the harness - Some say they use it to get back the MP they just spent on cures because they got hate, when the fact is if they'd meleed in Crow Jupon they probably wouldn't have gotten hate to begin with.

BST can be a pretty easygoing job, especially with the latest update which can make EMs give more XP than low T mobs...you can use that to a pretty decent advantage and get much more XP than normal. The biggest challenge is finding a working combination of gear that allows you to kill quickly but safely (thus why I'd recommend Crow Beret/Shoes at the very least - some may need more -enmity, some may need less. But I'd highly dis-recommend none at all).

Some decent DD gear I'd recommend would include RK Chainmail (->Hauby once 59), RK Mufflers, Amemet +1, Assault Earring. Wrath Tabar is pretty useful, though many would recommend Kabrakan instead for it's Slow effect (though I've very, very rarely seen it kick in - maybe have been bad luck though.)

Decent charm gear I'd recommend you get at bare minimum - Corsette +1, Gaudy Harness, Beast Trousers (of course), CHR rings of equivalent level, Noble's Ribbon, Star Necklace.

For generic duo/solo melee BST/WHM at 75, I'm usually wearing:
Optical Hat, Gaudy Harness (Hauby for Rampage), Ogre Gloves, Beast Trousers +1, Beast Gaiters +1, Woodsman Ring, Rajas Ring, Woodville Axe, Tatami Shield, Potent Belt, Chivalrous Chain, Brutal Earring, Magnetic Earring, Amemet Mantle +1.

Thick gear is pretty awesome and I used to melee in it, but I eventually phased it out since I carry enough gear as it is. The great thing about BST, as someone else pointed out, is that your pets don't care what you wear.

You are right, it was mainhand ME and offhand Juggy. Haven't really played since before thanksgiving and at my age, the memory is sometimes shoddy at it's best. :p

Breakdown of what I like to use situational wise etc. I sub /nin and after 72 I reccomend you do it for leveling in sky.

Melee:
Woody/Maneater
O Hat/Turban
PCA (If no pcc/pca go for chivy)
Tarasque Mitts (Dusk Gloves fairly soon)
Life Belt
Ogre Ledelsens
Trackers Kecks
Woodmans Ring x2
Assault Earring
Merman's Earring
Haubergeon
Amemet Mantle +1

Focus: Acc and Attk+, supplement with some Haste gear, then STR and DEX etc.

Regen:
Gaudy Harness
Rune Axe x2

WS:
Flame Ring x2
Wyvern Helm
PCA
Assault Earring
Mermans
Warwolf Belt
Hauby
Ogre Gloves
Creek M Clomps
Exorcist Hose

Focus: STR, Acc, DEX

Charm:
Light/Apollos
Loyalty Ring x2
Relic head (or Panther mask is fine)
Gaudy Harness
Beast Trousers
Melody Earrings x2
Corsette+ 1
The chr+ and enm- gloves cant remember name...
Bird Whiste

Focus: CHR+, and about +5 charm+ will do you just fine

Reward:
Ogre Gloves
Beast Jackcoat
Beast Gaiters

Tame:
Beast Helm
Can use JSE pants I believe but not necessary, Helm definitely helps though imo.

This isn't optimal, and you can get by easily with less, but this is my current setup.

This is set up for me

Charm Gears

Beast Gailter+1
Beast Glove+1
Beast Trouser+1
Kirin's Osede
Monster Helm
Angel Ring x2
Light Staff
Star Necklace
Monster Belt or Corsette+ 1

Total about 72 CHR base +48 CHR, no Melody Earring+1 yet

Melee Gears /ninja

Juggernault
Maneater
Hubberk
Flame Ring x2
Brutal Earring
Suppanomimi
Chiv. Chain
Optical Hat or Walahra Turban
Orge Ledelsens
Byakko Haidate
Swift Belt
Beast Glove+1
Amemet Mantle+1

All of this will get you up to around 400+ attack

Switch in WS armor

Soil Gorget
Ethereal Earring
Wyrm Helm
Hecatomb Body
Hecatomb Hand
Heactomb Feet
Warwolft Belt

Call Beast

Zoolater Hat
Monster Glove+1 (Don't see much different compare to regular one, hadn't tested it yet.)
Monster Helm
Monster Jackcoat
Monster Gailter
Byakko Haidate
Angel Ring x2
Brutal Earring
Etherreal Earring
Tatamit Shield
Tungi

Most important of all if you want to be good DD bst is Merits, cap axe skill STR DEX crit. Beast suck at accuracy and dd stat end game. BST can't do as much as war, but they can get up to around +70STR and pet will make up for damage.

I really don't know where the "BST have crappy accuracy" idea comes from. We have lower Strength without a doubt...but accuracy? I mean we have the same accuracy resources as any heavy armor DD job besides WAR's agressor.

Bst do have lower accuracy by natural, if you do more than your pets how many times you will die before reach 75 solo. Unless you eat sushi and fight even match to tough, if duo VT or IT you miss like crazy with /white or /ninja. I did it myself for 9 months, I solo and duo exp with /PLD when I lvled bst from 1-69 due to no mage sub.

If you have other heavy melee jobs and compare them, you will see the differences.

I have to disagree. I duo'd VT for a lot a lot of my bst career and w/ sushi I didn't have much problem with acc, and often /whm; w/o sushi it depended on the mob and if it was high tier VT. And on IT in gnereal alot of jobs acc take a drop which is why they arent really optimal for exp. Soloing on EM and T w/o sushi I may miss 3-4 hits per mob at most w/o O hat. I don't understand how you can automatically make the connection that doing more damage than your pets = you need bad accuracy. Espescially since SE believes the job should be in pts using jugs that do about the damage of one axe swing, and have pretty mediocre acc on exp mobs. Beast hate handling abilities are linked to JAs, Killer effects, and low STR that hampers our WS spike damage and being confined to Axe to limit our SC abilities; it is not in any obvious way tied to accuracy from what I have noticed.

Moreover, I don't say why you can make that comparison w/o having any other heavy melee DD class leveled to 75, but then tell me I would know if I had one leveled.

Bst do have lower accuracy by natural

What the shit, seriously.

Accuracy is modified by three things. Skill, DEX, Accuracy+(equipment/trait/song/food/whatever.) No where does BST have a natural deficiency of either.

Also, wtf is up with the Tungi? You have a Juggernaut. Why use anything with even less damage?

Relic and Artifact +1 enhancements are no different than the regular Relic and Artifact. Thats why you don't notice a difference. The equipment comes with slightly better stats(Relic+1,) or a lot better(AF+1,) but the enhancements don't increase.

Using an Apollo's Staff, MtZ Crawlers start conning "Should be able to Charm" at about +30 CHR (on Hume Base CHR). Apollo's is great, but you're going to need some CHR gear as well if you're going to use some of the best pets at 75.

Charm gear - CHR gear especially AF+1 which has Charm+ as well.
TP Gear and WS gear is mostly similar to what a WAR would use. We do get a couple of nice pieces WARs don't. Temperance Axe , Khimaira Gameshes (5Att/5Acc) and AF1+1 Legs (6STR) are all pretty nice.

I've got the Temperance Axe, but I never use it and I have to disagree with you. I can charm any pet in the game with no problem with AFs and an Apollo Staff. Black mandies in the tree? Not a problem. Slimes in the mire? Not a problem. I've never met a pet I couldn't charm, at level 75.

I'm a little late in the topic. Most people have said what I wanted to say already. However, I have to disagree with offhanding a maneater.

In most cases, you will end a fight with well over 100tp. I tend to end fights with close to 200tp. So, after that point I've reached 100tp maneater pretty much becomes useless if I understant its latent correctly.

Which is why I recommend offhanding something with more permanent stats unless you're in an actual exp party where you can spam rampage. I personally preferred woody/leopard (don't have a juggy) until I got my temperance axe. Now I go woody/temperance.

PCC is a nice item to have for bst, but from 72 on you will never fight anything harder than VT unless you are a career bst and do sky as bst, etc. Chiv Chain is more than fine. If you have decent gear at all, pcc will be overkill when fighting T-VT mobs.

Just my 2 cents.

And I have to agree that right about +30chr is positively enough unless you're wanting to charm+familiar one of those VT slimes in mamook. I go /nin so even if I fail charm on an exp pet, I just shadow tank or tame it till my charm is up again.
