I've got the Temperance Axe, but I never use it and I have to disagree with you. I can charm any pet in the game with no problem with AFs and an Apollo Staff. Black mandies in the tree? Not a problem. Slimes in the mire? Not a problem. I've never met a pet I couldn't charm, at level 75.

You can disagree, but it's a fact that for a roughly EM crawler in MtZ the Gauge changes at ~+30CHR. Cadaerva Slimes are 65-69. If you want to use a slime at 75, you're looking at Mountain Clots which cap at 75, and are going to need that CHR. I never worked much with Black Mandies (I levelled 71-75 in Sky), but I thought they didn't have the same resist trait as the white ones...

As far as TP generation is concerned an off-hand Temperance pretty much outperforms everything because of it's high double attack rate. I used mine mainhanded levelling, and it totally outperformed my Maneater TP wise (but of course the WS was weaker and I gained hate a lot easier, which were two big negatives solo...)

Black mandie have resist charm as well. I think I only used around +25 chr while leveling in the tree and still did fine. Its probably overkill to get over 100 chr as it is with Brd. For DC that aren't charm resistant I can charm /nin with like +15 chr and don't even bother to switch to Apollo.

For the stuff I do these days, I use my tp most of the time when I have it, so I don't have any problem maneater/temp.

I'm a little late in the topic. Most people have said what I wanted to say already. However, I have to disagree with offhanding a maneater.

In most cases, you will end a fight with well over 100tp. I tend to end fights with close to 200tp. So, after that point I've reached 100tp maneater pretty much becomes useless if I understant its latent correctly.

Which is why I recommend offhanding something with more permanent stats unless you're in an actual exp party where you can spam rampage. I personally preferred woody/leopard (don't have a juggy) until I got my temperance axe. Now I go woody/temperance.

The reason I sub maneater is because its latent is still in effect as you WS, which to me noticeably boosted my rampage damage which is fairly important at the end of fights. Getting off consistent high damage is alot better than oops 100 rampage. And having the main hand woody still means I am doing decent damage and it isn't stopping me from doing a decent chain in the tree.

I'd say I personally would see it as more of an effect if you were doing something like maneater/juggy soloing because at that point your damage really is taking a dip with two lower base damage axes. For instance, Woody/Maneater on like a T or EM Goob today I think post latent the damage difference was about 70/45 which is very noticeable, but really for Goobs and solo it isn't that bad. But seeing that post latent for Maneater/juggy may be a little sketchy in a solo or possibly even duo. In which case I'd say its best to probably go with Woody/Juggy or Woody/Maneater. We are not WARs, don't pretend to be one.

Temperance Axe, idk enough about it since I have never used one. I'm always thinking multi-hit for tp build, but im sure its dot is at least equal to any other offhand axe. I do think it is just about ridiculous to go maneater/temp in a solo and probably duo as a bst though.

So I agree with pako about stuff like maneater/juggy outside of a party, but not entirely about /maneater with a woody. I have found it really valuable because its latent kicks in for the last Rampage to finish the mob off.

I can't remember the last time I've ever done a oops 100 rampage. Even a woops 300 rampage. Heck the last time a mob was left alive with a sliver of health, I had no problem beating it down while shadow tanking as /nin. But I guess each of us have our own play style.

Now this is ironic, because most wars offhand maneater if they can't afford a juggy or get their hands on a ridill due to the fact that they can spam rampage every 100tp. Right?

Understood. To each his own. And to be fair, on days when I wasn't feeling lazy I'd just use that "choke" WS everytime I had 100tp if the mob was higher than 50% hp.

But I never regretted trading in my maneater for a leopard axe. And now I don't regret trading in my leopard axe for a temperance.

I enjoy blink tanking for my pets sometimes. Keeps me on my feet. :P

Not related to topic but to BST:

Does CHR have any affect on a monster after you've already charmed it? (duration charm, dmg, etc)

Also what exactly does CHR affect on a mob? I keep reading different stories about this and wanted yalls thoughts.

+chr does not affect duration. +charm does. It only affects the mobs resistance to being your pet.

As far as a monster as an enemy, +chr affects your killer traits.

Hate too!!

(I'm not serious. I do not know for sure. I only read it somewhere. I decided to chuck that into discussion. Haha ... running behind the sofa now.)

I have had those instances before, and then you get hit with a Blank Gaze or Antiphase w/o Feral Howl up, but never really since Maneater. As a lot of things with BST its the off hand chance that gets you killed and diminishing the off hand chance in any way is what will benefit you most.

General pattern I see is Woody/Man > Man/Juggy > ManorJug/RidillorlolJoyToy. I'm saying having Maneater mainhand will pretty much never ever benefit your solo play because it can be used effectively only to go straight to Rampage, which means for more than half the fight you are swinging gimped axes base dmg wise if you Man/Jug or Man/Temp. Woody/Maneater yes one of my axes is gimped for a good portion of the fight, but it doesn't make a huge difference to me and I don't mind sacrificing some DoT on a mob for the added security of a big rampage that isn't going to stop me from Chain 3-4 up in Boy Tree.

I like Blink tanking for my pets sometimes to, but only when it allows me to widdle down the mobs HP to lower than my pets so I don't have to worry about blink tanking it w/o a pet on it.

Regarding BST accuracy . . . I'd say our acc is just the same as any other job, as long as we have a pet. Once I leave my pet and I'm trying to get those last 1-2 hits in my acc drops to like 25%. lol

Same can be said regarding Charm success rate if you have a mob in pursuit of you. lmfaofailingseventimesinarowonlowDCCrawlers.

To each his own. I think it's more of a preference thing really. Any of the axes will pretty much work. I just personally don't gear up for the offchance. I gear up for the situations I'm faced with 99% of the time. Which is my rampages killing a mob or leaving it with really low HP. But to each his own. :)

It's not the crawlers that give me nightmares. It's them damn frisky mandragoras from hell.

replace the word leave with the mob kills your pet and...

it's the same crazy scenario, isnt that great?!

And that is why BST is such a fun job. It isn't a cookie cutter like alot of jobs in terms of effectiveness because most times solo and duo you arent going to break chain 4 or chain 5 without creating alot of dangerous hate and even then. So as long as you are hitting those same numbers with a variety of options that you feel is fitting of your playstyle it doesn't really matter.

Come to sky tonight we have some Byakko sets need using!

^^

But on a serious note, because we go vs. T pets (in general, whilst solo'ing), and cause we have a natural -A on Axe, we don't really need that much acc at all, just enough to get by...

I mischarmed a leech twice in a row last night down in those creepy sewers ... I really wondered how CHR worked then lol, I had over 100 CHR. (in total)

And I'm emphasising the fact, it's a leech. IT'S MEANT TO BE ONE OF THE MOST CHARM FRIENDLY MONSTERS!!!
