BST (makeshift) Camp Guide 76-80

From Allakazham

76-78 - Ifrit's Cauldon; Ash Lizard vs. Volcanic Bomb (Hurricane Wyvern?)

Just past the drop where you enter Cloister of Flames, near the big open room where Wyverns spawn. This camp was a little too hard at 75, since some Lizards were T and couldn't be converted because of Bomb aggro. This camp will have to be /NIN (/DNC isn't up to par yet) as to avoid magic aggro. How hard are the Wyverns?

Alternative Camp:

76-78 - Den of Rancor; Puck vs. Tormentor (Or visa-versa, depending on levels and linkage)

Enter just north of the Yhoater OP Warp. This is another camp that, while doable at 75, I could never get reliable charms on the Mandies to make it worthwhile. Has the convenience of a relatively close zone, and FoV Refresh/Reraise/Food/etc.

* * *

77-79 - Kuftal Tunnel; Ovinnik vs. Ovinnik

Can't say I've ever really explored this camp before, but the level range just seems perfect. Prey doesn't link, so just have to hope mobs are arranged nicely for continuous chains. Really looking forward to trying this one out, this was the first camp that sprung to mind when I heard about the level cap raised.

Potential Alternative #1:

77-78 - Bhaflau Thickets; Sea Puk vs. Sea Puk and Mamools (Thanks to sscearcev for details)

Would likely be best as a duo camp. Located literally outside Mamool Ja Staging Point. There are 10 Puks to use as pets, and lots of aggro from Mamool and Wyverns.

Potential Alternative #2:

77-78 - Beaucedine Glacier (S); Icefang Tiger vs. Icefang Tiger

I know there are a number of them (I-9), but idk if its enough to make an actual camp out of. There may be lots of aggro from undead mobs, as well.

Potential Alternative #3:

77-79 - The Boyahda Tree; Darter, Blood Ball, and Bark Tarantula vs. Bark Tarantula (Thanks to Kevanff for suggestion)

I know the spiders and flies are on map 4, but where are the 6 leeches located?

* * *

78-80 - Dragon's Aery; Darter and Bark Tarantula vs. Bark Tarantula (Thanks to Kevanff for suggestion)

Small zone with lots of mobs, spiders aggro and everything links. Could technically start at 77, but may not find enough EM pets. I would camp at entrance from Boyahda Tree, be wary of Fafnir/Nidhogg!

* * *

This is as far as I've gotten. I really can't find any good camps just searching through wiki. If anyone has any ideas or knows the mobs' map locations for the following ideas, please comment on this thread!:

Ceadavra Mire: Spongilla Fly (78-79) vs. Heraldic Imp (79-81).
Arrapago Reef: Ashakku (71-74) vs. Seneschal Imp (77-78) or Jnun (77-80)
Mamook: Nipper (76-77) and Sea Puk (76-78) vs. Spinner (79-81) or Battle Bugard (78-79)
Xarcabard (S): Caracal (77-78) vs. Cointeach (79-80) or Ruly Imp (81)

Meriphatatud (S) in a few levels when you can charm the Mountain Scolopendrids without needing familiar and go on a trail of yagudoey destruction might work (come on -who doesn't want to get revenge on the Yag High Priests for their aggroing and chomping them doing genkais)... there are also normal level Scolopendrids over the other side of the zone (opposite to Castle Oz) near the spine there - think they're EM-T at present cos I used to abuse them for farming Zeni.

Mount Zhayolm

I believe the Mountain Clots are a bit far from some mobs but they're found in the tunnels which connect most places together. I think it's possible there's one area (I need to investigate in person) that may be linked closely with Wamoura Prince's.

Mountain Clots are always an absolute bitch to charm though, so that struggle may not be worth it. I fail often in CHR+40~ gear.

1 Clot should have absolutely no issue tanking a whole fight against a Wamoura Prince. If I can confirm this spot you might be able to grind to 80 here no prob.

Pet: Mountain Clot (72-75)
Prey: Wamoura Prince (79-81)

This camp is pretty damn good as early as 75, especially duo. The problem with soloing on the princes is their damn heat barrier. Even Clots get smacked around when those spikes are up, and dispelling it can be a bitch.

With a clot and an assassin fly though, you can eat through these things for some really nice exp. I'm soloing here at 75 with a bit of difficulty, thanks to the aforementioned spikes.

Edit: Primal Rend lands for about 800+ pretty often, so you might be the target if you decide to WS on these while fighting alongside your pet. Fortunately, they move so slow that you can kite while your clot/fly kills it.

Nice to hear that camp working for you, seems like BST/NIN with a Rune Axe is the way to go then.

Someone asked me on Dreams in Vanadiel about my discoveries:

Sorry I've not been playing the last or so 3 weeks because the marbles killed my ability to do anything. With some MNK gear on me I've pretty much been sat in the tree MNK/BST doing nothing lol.

I haven't started yet but am investigating/planning in my head.

Seems like you've pretty much crashed into my expectations:

Dolls in sky has always sucked, especially on BST. On SAM/BST I'm able to take a doll down with 1 bird, but that's a different type of thing, usually at the risk of my 3eyes dropping at the worst possible times.

Opos, as I discussed with you above, are annoying, and you've discovered this too it seems now.

Your friend who is 77, how does he manage the flies in the mire? Granted, I exclusively carry no AF gear on me nowadays (inventory, yada yada, although I wished I did keep my AF+1 items now and upgraded all my BST AF), but the flies are 78-79. Charming T mobs aren't really an issue to me, but getting the imp down in under 2 minutes is the issue, plus a slight EXP cut.

----

I posted this 1 hour later after a bit of thinking.

I'm intending to go into The Boyhada Tree and do Leech vs Darters by the Ancient Goobue area, depending if the area is packed or not. While on MNK/BST last night I noticed a significant amount of people (not BST) in the tree skilling up, so I'm not sure if they are all over Steelshells only or everything else. Failing this I will venture deeper inside the tree and do Bark Spider vs Bark Spider.

If it all proves too crowded because people are desperate, I will simply hang in Sky and FoV it. Doing page 1 I can take down 1 bird with no attention on my part, and pots only require a tiny bit of attention. As I'm finishing later at work lately it's become slightly difficult for me to dedicate some effort and go and squat down at a camp to do some EXPing.

I have already begun to detail this stuff in my quasi-blog, will let you know the URL sooooooon.
I'll get to it soon, I just want to finish off MNK first at least (to 75)

EDIT: I've not fought this crawly things in the mountain, but I assume as RDM main there is no issue in dispelling them? Otherwise, subbing RDM should yield a high % in dispels unless it's one of those awkward ones similar to Cerebus's Magma Hoplon, failing that, sub BLU at 76 (/38BLU) will yield you Blank Gaze. I'm unsure of the mechanics in Blank Gaze aside from it being purely directional, does it depend on your Blue Magic Skill as well?/etc ... otherwise that is a possible option.

I always play bst as /rdm, though I Can't say much about /blu. Don't hav e it leveled up yet. My magic is all capped for the level that I'm at, and I throw on my int pieces when using dispel, but it still only seems to be about a 40% chance of success, 20% if you count that you might hit the enfire instead of the blaze spikes.

When the mob isn't curled up into a ball, I just hang back away from it to avoid the burn move, since I have no erase, but otherwise it's really easy to beat. If there were a more reliable way to dispel those spikes, I would never leave this place. 350+ per kill without a ring on, since the mobs check as VT to a 75.

Edit: I prefer Temp axe over Rune - I keep a haste set on me for meleeing, and a pet-boosting set for when I'm staying away from the mob. Charm/Haste/Pet set.. So much inventory space.

I see.

I also went out and tested Blank Gaze, won't even land on elementals or pots in Sky, though they're more magic resistant, but even with /RDM there's a high probability of it landing.

However, since now you've told me, this camp would work awesome on RDM/BST =p

Yeah, that was me you were talking to about it failing horribly. :d

I would assume brd/bst would have a fairly easy time with this camp too, despite the recast timer on Finale.

Oh! Sorry I didn't know that was you lol :(

I got sidetracked and didn't try Blank Gaze on crabs/equivalent, will still give that a shot and report back here but I think it's best to give up. Building 100% TP and then spamming Primal Rend + Kite seems like a good idea though, I think there's ample room to sneak up after a distance and then run into the tunnels.

I want to say my primal rend removes about 30-40% of it's HP, which is a pretty damn good amount if you have two bst's with a good primal rend set.

The only problem I can see with that is the idea of building it's TP so quickly by trying to build your own. Heat barrier does about 50ish to both clot and player, each time the spikes land. With temp axe, even using phalanx and barfire, those spikes eat through stoneskin within seconds.
Still, since you have to despawn your pet - Only one clot spawns in this area and you don't want it to die - you get plenty of time to recover from getting burnt to hell by the blaze spikes, and the small path that leads down to the clot is safe enough to afk in, and so is the big gate thing.

Was making pretty good exp (~6k/hr without band), with decent skillups, at 77 in Beaucedine Glacier . Camped around I-9 in an area filled with Icefang Tigers and level 80-81 Gigas Pelters (RNG) and Fleshers (BSTs). I used /SCH so I could sleep mischarms as an extra precaution (and I did mischarm quite a bit, even with 140 CHR). The gigas are pretty squishy.

You tried the Couerls I've heard tell of over in Xarc yet, Falk?

I'm anxious to find out if they're more amenable to us Bsts than the wonderfully Charm-resistant prehistoric tiggers ><

Yeah, I was really excited to use the Caracals, or whatever they're called in Xarc , but the wiki listed the level range incorrectly. :( They're like T-VT+ to a 77 Beastmaster. They're kind of isolated on the map anyways, not really near any prey except maybe a few VT gnoles on the east end of their spawn radius.

Also, after dinging 78, I noticed there were still some T Icefang Tigers, so I corrected their level range on the wiki to be 77-79. That explains some of the extra difficulty in charming that I had! ; ;

Add in the flying rapeasaurus when planning a trip to Glacier btw. Had to establish the other night that it was in fact trioable on BST to get the infernal thing out of the way.

Really really really cute SE - QUIT WITH THE FLYING DEATH FROM ABOVE THINGS!

(oh and random teleporters are NOT CUTE EITHER!)

Suggestion for 77 - go pee off the entire server at Mammol Ja Staging Point since the puks there check EM... not exactly do-able at the moment but you know SE's twisted line of logic decided they'd put an exp camp in for BST, they could go back to watching the football.

lmao!

Mamool Ja meripo: Bst or GTFO!! XD

I was checking BG for some info at lunch and it seems 1 fly in the Mire can plough through 4 imps on its own, if we can find them. So that's for sure an ideal camp once the excitement/rush of EXP dies down.

I took another spin around Xarc to check on the Coeurls now that I'm level 80 - they're level 80-82. I just used it as a skillup camp for a lil' while, so I'm not sure how useful it is at the moment, exp-wise.

Dragon's Aery is bleh but there about level 79.
