You're going to have a hard time with emnity+ merits. I usually stay just borderline from stripping hate off my pets even with no emnity merits and one piece of emnity- gear (bison hands). I'd recommend getting some emnity- gear for meleeing if possible, you won't be doing as much damage but that's probably a good thing in your case, lol.

lol, thanks, I will look into it.

Edit: on second thought...maybe its time to /wave goodbye to the +enm merits...-enm would beneficial not only here but also with WAR so I can share hate better...hmmmmmmmmm

For just standard xp on my bst, my charm set consists of AF, light staff (not the HQ, I'm brokeded) and star necklace. I haven't noticed any significant difference in charming EM mobs with more CHR than that (as elvaan, I should add). I have a little more difficulty with T-IT mobs that I try to charm, but I get into those situations so rarely that I've never bothered to buy more chr gear. If I do decide to boost my charm set in the future, I think a HQ light staff would serve me better than CHR rings and such.

Yeah. I probably use more CHR than necessary, but then again I'm making up for the mithra stats and a lot of the CHR stuff runs a bit cheap. If you ran into a group of BSTs, it's likely that all of them would have different Charm setups if you asked them what they use. I did 63 or so levels with Mischarmifirien at my side, going by the same guides and advice, and we're still equipped differently. BST is a job you can play around with since you're on your own or with another BST so much of the time. Pets don't mutter "gimp" under their breath when they're taking the brunt of the abuse for you.

I forgot to mention it's also important to use the Apollo's Staff if your name is Mischarmifirien.

I had my name legally changed back when I grafted the Apollo's Staff to my hand. If I'd known the difference was going to be that huge, I would've whored myself out until I could buy one the second I dinged 51. It really does make a difference.

Get back to updating your blog you slacker! ;p

*clip* Sorry...posted completely incorrect information due to tiredness.

Isn't Cache-nez only +2 enmity?

Wait, what? I never used Cache-Nez on bst, and I'd certainly use Empress Hairpin over it. Why do I want +enmity?

Oh sh-!t >< sorry. What was I thinking...eh, what's the -enmity helmet? I got no sleep at all last night, my bad =/ think it's Pumpkin Head or some junk?

Way sorry...all the same, highly recommend any possible -enmity you can get. Emp Hairpin won't make too great of a difference, so could use it even past that...but up to you.

Not doing event items ever might finally catch up with me if it is the pumpkin head...oh well. Thanx Mish

Yeah, pumpkin head has the -1 enmity on it.

Thanks for the links. You forgot ENM+ merits too >.> I don't melee until the pet is dead, one swing usually pulls hate right now. I've even been pulling hate just debuffing dia/Para...obviously why I'm looking for help >.>
My suggestion with the Enimty issue is use enimty - gear but also use a gimpier axe! It lowers your damage output and allows you to still collect tp.

It definately gets easier higher level when you have better gear selection such as JSE.

That being said, it makes things more interesting having enimty merits, but doesn't make it impossible... Also, if you can duo. It makes the earlier levels a million times easier and lets you ping pong hate.

I'm gonna start crying if I have to equip a gimper axe ;; I understand why the suggestion, but honestly with practice I'm sure I'll find a balance.

Just curious, what level are you? I wouldn't recommend using a pet before level 14 or 15, assuming you're not already that far. Also, BST/DRG (for att bonus+jump) or BST/RNG (for acc bonus) can make great DDs in parties from L20-30...though most sortof just laugh at seeing such a job setup, unfortunately. =/

I'm 21 now...and Dami suggested duoing too, but one of my reasons to level beast was to avoid other people, so I'd rather not party with it just yet. Especially if I find I can solo faster then the party is making exp points, which in Qufim/Jungle is a strong possibility. I'm not asking for help because I'm mightily struggling by any means, I've chain 3'd T's together with how I'm trying now. Its just that as I mentioned earlier, I'm kinda OC no matter what I do in this game, so I'd like to be cliche and "reach for the stars"

Long term I'd like to party with it, been taking note of my WAR's performance without berserk/aggressor on...and with a few more tweaks I think it could be a force...but that's long term.

Hope you enjoy it ^^ you might hit a rough spot around L28ish though (think I couldn't find a good spot and was stuck with Acrophies, which are admittedly HORRIBLE)

I think one of the biggest unspoken challenges of BST, is good gear (in terms of DD) tends to get you killed quicker XD Later on you might get more use out of /RDM (Phalanx) or even /PLD (Lotsof stuff), but only if you fight mobs that don't require some major like Paralyna, of course.

Well, 7 lvls to endure before those sticky acrophies. Hopefully I'll have some knowledge before then.

This may have been in one of Gideon's links, but its from flocks site via Alla. These are camps off of Alla I believe, updated for ToAU and MPK patch mainly, some ToAU camps have changed though, I think SE dropped some Soulflayers in one be cause what zone isn't complete w/o the most annoying mob in the game.

As far as ENM goes, the merits may make it tough even into the 20's-30's after Leave most mobs are holding their own, but coupled with full merits it can make it very difficult. I'd take out the ENM merits personally, because you won't see a whole slew of enm- until later into your BST career or 50 with Crow Gear. I know Weaponslayer who is nearly fully merrited melee wise still pops on some Raven stuff if he has to WS mid fight, but mainly because hes just beastlier than most of us.

When you are able to get BST to 75, fully merit your Killers, you may be pulling hate with your full combat merits but you will also be initimidating probably ~25% of hits with a Tatami and BST AF pants. Less with just a Tatami and even less if you are /nin but thats what Ni is for. Killer procs reduces your hate and will almost always cause the prey to focus on your pet.
