Budget Cut Bullshit

*saves the right wingers some time*

It's all Clinton's fault.

Wasn't it a middle school thing to trash talk about the government?

Or maybe it was just a stoner fad, I remember those days.

I'm sorry, I have a brain and I use it to think.

Blind patriotism is worse than no patriotism at all.

I'm very patriotic.

My point was that you are blindly patriotic. That is a bad thing.
Actually, I would expect no less from military personnel. No offense, but someone who is in the military ought to follow orders, not think about them. They are paid to do as they are told, and since my taxes go toward their pay I don't want them to question anything. If the sarge says jump, they jump, if he says shoot, they shoot. Can't really fault someone for being how they are supposed to (and paid to) be. The cool thing is, when 2008 comes around and they start serving under a Democrat president, they will display the same amount of patriotism.

I'm glad you just justified Vietnam to me, because I had this strange thought that it might have all been for almost nothing.

I don't feel that military service is blind patriotism. It's true that you jump when told and shoot when told, but that is mainly because you are in immediate danger at all times. You know soldiers still have the right to vote and yeah to trash talk the government really is like kicking your own ass. Sure it might seem like fun at first but eventually you'll get bad knees and a nasty bruise, then you can't sit down and you start to wonder why you did it in the first place. You don't like the government....VOTE. You don't like what the government is doing...write your congressman/woman. Then don't vote for them next time an election comes up. Sure talking heads are great for entertainment, and it's even better when they trash the government right? But what is the point? What does that prove or solve? LOOK AT ME I'M COOL I CAN TALK SHIT ALL DAY ABOUT HOW THE GOVERNMENT IS FUCKING UP!!!! How about do something about it instead. Or would you rather smoke a joint and just keep on whining?

The individual soldier isn't to blame for any war. This is what my post was about. Military, by default in a democratic society, follows the orders of those in charge. And no, the Nuremberg Trial's "I was just following orders." doesn't apply. There are orders soldiers have the right to refuse, but mostly soldiers serve at the pleasure of the President.

My point is, I wouldn't want someone in the military who is constantly questioning everything. Surely, as individuals military personnel has the option to vote, and I am sure a great many of those in the Armed Services didn't actually vote for the current President. That's cool, as long as they get their job done it really doesn't matter what their political orientation is. That was my point.

Naturally jobs that require an individual to be a follower do attract some people who are perfectly content with being a follower. My other point was that for that particular job I do not see that as a fault (i.e. blind patriotism is ok by me if the person is in the military as that ensures the integrity of the military as such).

About half of all those who did vote didn't like the current government. Just to put things in perspective. Half of all those who care didn't approve of what the current government is doing. Did that prompt any sort of change? I don't think so.

Imagine yourself in a private enterprise. You are the boss, and half of the people who work for you think you suck. What would you do? Would you say: "Fuck 'em, they can find work elsewhere if they want!" or would you say: Geez, half the people? Really? What's their problem? Maybe I can fix it and then they will be more productive for me.".

all these people that bash what bush does should also add into their statments about how much they hate the senate and the rest of the government. they can all deny choices that bush makes. bush is not god. he does NOT have the ability to make whatever choice he wants to make and have it be so. there is more to it than that.

Exactly.
I find it funny that bush is the scapegoat for just about everything. Whatever. But still, there are 3 branches to this gov't for a reason. You hate bush, fine...but at least have the understanding that just about everything he does goes past both houses of congress first. Yes, I know conservatives contol both houses, but that does not mean voting goes down party lines.
Say what you want, but like masterorion said, there is more to it all than president bush.

I like budget cuts, especially when you have a President who cuts taxes.

So we finally get it and now we find out alot of it is hidden in bullshit, I guess we couldn't have expected any less.

Did we read the same article? I don't see what is hidden in bullshit? Are you saying the fact that he actually cut the budget is hidden? I thought that would have been obvious before you started reading the article. The article just seems to point out spots that are being cut they don't agree with.

You are making some broad assumptions and generalizations. To say that half the voter population thought the entire government was bad from a presidential election is foolish. To go on to imply just because they voted for someone else they think the current leadership 'sucks' is even more foolish.

The fact that the election was so close goes to show the population wasn't certain which would be the best choice, maybe there was no absolute best. Had it been 90% Kerry and 10% Bush you might have a point in saying people thought Bush sucked, but by the very fact that it was so close goes to show they didn't. I didn't want Kerry or Gore for President, but I also wouldn't have likely felt they completly sucked and made the whole government bad.

I truly hope you did not mean that. It is that logic which allowed the Holocauset to occur. Soldiers duty now requires questioning the morality of orders before following them. If someone orders them to slaughter school children they better stop and think about it first.

while going through bootcamp, they teach you about "lawful orders" which deters such orders from being followed. IE: an order to go clean the common areas bathroom is a lawful order; an order to blow up a bldg with civilians in it is an unlawful order and you have the right to question the order if it is unlawful

I don't think it a foolish assumption at all. I voted for someone else and I think our current leadership sucks. I honestly don't know anyone that makes under 50k a year that has the balls to defend the man (except maybe on a message board). That's not to say Kerry would have been any better. We'll never know because he didn't get elected. Now Al Gore... I like Al Gore. He seems to me like he's a good man that genuinely cares about his country. I could be wrong, but I would have given him a chance before Bush Cheney Edwards or Kerry.

I'd say if you have the motivation to vote, your fairly sure of who you think is the man for the job, or you "Know" that you are a Democrat or a republican and you blindly vote for what your parents told you you were. Personnaly I'm not a democrat or a republican. I voted for what I considered to be the lesser of 2 evils. That's all it comes down to anymore. Who is gonna fuck me less. The answer this time wasn't Bush. Me and more than half or the people that voted, voted for Kerry. I'm fairly sure they all think bush is a suck ass president with questionable motives. I know I do.

When you waste your time to post about political issues on a forum such as this, I can only assume you are somewhat "blindly anti-patriotic". This is an assumption, but look at where you are posting.

well there are obviously people here that have enough of an opinion to try to make a counterpoint.
