Where's the Gungnir??

Gungnir? You shouldn't have to ask if you need it. It's also way to easy to get.

So much easier then a Mezraq+1 to obtain, that's for sure.

I know I'm not a high-level DRG yet.. but I am a bit of a thinker, and I like to look at stuff and make possible one-piece-per-slot (basically, no macro switch-outs) equipment set-ups. So.. going through somepage for reference/look-up and using that pimped-out site for statistic layout.. I came up with this, personally best suited for DRG/SAM:

WPN: Gungnir
SUB: N/A
RNGD: N/A
AMMO: Fire Bomblet
HEAD: Askar Zucchetto
NECK: Chivalrous Chain
EAR1: Brutal Earring
EAR2: Assault Earring
BODY: Askar Korazin
HAND: Askar Manopolas
RNG1: Iota Ring
RNG2: Flame Ring
BACK: Forager's Mantle
WST: Ninurta's Sash
LEGS: Ares's Flanchard
FEET: Homam Gambieras

Defense: 163
HP: 31
HP (%): 2
MP: 31
MP (%): 2
STR: 26
VIT: 7
DEX: 18
AGI: 3
INT: -1
MND: -5
Attack: 44
Accuracy: 42
Ranged Accuracy: 6
Evasion: 18
Enmity: 4
Haste (%): 15
Double Attack (%): 4
Subtle Blow: 6
Store TP: 7
Spell Interruption (%): -6
Enhances Double Attack effect
Resist Fire: -6

P.S.: Please don't hurt me for trying.. ; ; Keep in mind, this is only a theoretical set-up..

Thats why I always pick a war or mnk to xp with, not because they try more, but because chances are they are the same as you. The difference being that thier jobs make them naturally stronger. I dont want to waste my time on a job that already is weak, only to have a player behind that is weak as well.

Translation: Use your fucking gear swaps.

Maybe I should've been a bit more specific.. I was only going with the flow of everyone else in this thread that they were only posting one-piece-per-slot set-ups. As for gear-swaps, I agree in using them but only if one can afford the equipment to do so and its within reasonable price and efficiency comparison. I myself am barely able to afford new equipment because I've not the time to make much gil - therefore, I take what I can get and work with it. If I can afford a piece at the time and it's something that'll help in the long run, I'll buy it to use for swaps - otherwise, if it isn't up to my standards, I don't see a point (i.e. buying a piece that gives a mere +1 more STR with less overall bonuses, that costs hundreds of thousands of gil more.. as compared to the piece I have at the time that also gives more overall).
In regards to having a weak job, DRG is not a weak job but merely one that calls for a bit more strategic way of using WSs and the job abilities from both main and sub. That's how I look at every job - none are truly stronger than the other, just each has their own way of being done. Every person finds their own way to make them good at the job; just some people do it differently and are very good in how they perform. As for a player being weak, that's only if said players are closed-minded - such as those who do not wish to give people a chance by inviting them into a party, but rather just shrug them off as though they aren't human themselves.
People choose their jobs typically because they enjoy that job; not necessarily to be the strongest or best. Why else would some BSTs choose to take their jobs all the way and even create a linkshell comprised almost entirely of such? Or why high-level DRGs continue to adjust themselves to various situations and the sub-job they choose? DRG is a flexible job that has many possibilities for what it can do; then again, almost any job is like that. It just depends on the person's mind set and what goal they have set for themselves. Why else do you think there are PUPs out there who've already made it to 75 and love the job? Or SMNs who refuse to main heal and get invited into parties as a DD and do well at it? It's because they've honed their skills to achieve their goals and were given the chance to work with others while doing so. Unless you are looking to fill a specific position (i.e. needing a RDM for Dispel against certain monsters, or a WHM to main heal), give the jobs a chance and don't push them away. Never know what you mind end up with - yes, there will be some bad ones, but there's always that possibility of getting those good ones who'll really shine.

What does any of the crap above have to do with you being too lazy to gear swap?

You don't read nor think at all, do you? I'm not lazy; I merely cannot afford to buy gear to swap in for everything. If I have a piece already that I can swap in or if I have enough of a surplus in gil to buy a piece to swap (which isn't often), I will.
If I may say.. try using a bit of logic when attempting to argue/debate rather than insult someone like that.

DRG isn't a weak job. It's a weak mentality, much like PUP. It's not that the job itself sucks, it's that 99% of its players suck (and that's putting it nicely), and the good gear is a little harder to obtain, encouraging them to suck. Also applies to BLUs, but their job puts out big flashy numbers, so people tend not to notice.

SMN DD does not work. Ever. It can do damage, sure. I can get out my dagger and melee on BRD for damage, doesn't make it anything besides a complete failure. There are a total of 3 things SMN can do: Blood Pact: Ward, Blood Pact: Rage, and /WHM. That's all their job gives them. That's like an axe WAR who doesn't dual-wield after 50, or a BRD who subs DRG. You're deliberately removing functionality from your job to absolutely no gain.

Maybe you're not familar with the phrase "It's not your 12 bucks, it's our 64."

And on top of that, you say you can't afford to buy extra gear? Here's a hint: If you have time to level, you have time to make gil.

I would spend my tiime farming instead of wasting it getting sub par items from assault. Or get sellable items from Assault and get some good gear elsewhere. Or do a CoP static and cut out assault alltogether.

I'm never more amazed than hearing the person with multiple jobs (usually one is NIN) who does dynamis 6 hours a week, assaults for another 6 hours, limbus for another 2 hours, sky 3 nights a week, etc yet dont have time to farm. Or they cant be bothered to join an HNM LS.

People have the time, they would just rather spend it getting the chocobo wand or angelwings instead of improving their character.

Last week I did dynamis once, limbus twice, einherjar twice, and made about 4mil. All in about oh...10 hours total of play.

Set yourself up to win, not lose, quit making excuses about how you have a certain way of playing your job so you dont need the best gear.

Try farming/crafting before telling the whole server you make your job suck by not swapping gear.

The point I am trying to make is that there are those out there who do not like the cookie-cutter ways and therefore do things the way they wish and optimize their job based around that. Yes, it's not something that most people like but some people are actually good at it even though it doesn't look like it from the outside. And agreed, there are some very awkward job combinations that make no sense at all; however, I meant combinations and personal set-ups that work, just not in the way that most people would think until they see it.
As for not being able to afford gear.. At least 75% of the time I am on, I am doing my best to make gil. I level if given the chance (i.e. was unexpected invited into a party as my DRG while farming and took up the offer). In case you did not read my post about my gil problems, I'll post a link.

The point I'm trying to make is that cookie-cutter is a term that was invented by people who suck and refuse to play the way that's been proven the best. Experimenting is fine, that's how NIN/DRK was discovered. But you do it on your own time, not for your entire leveling career, despite people yelling at you to stop being an idiot and sub <job>. Sticking your fingers in your ears and going "LA LA LA I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE TRUTH ITS MY TWELVE BUCKS A MONTH" is not an acceptable option.

All I saw in the link was plenty of perfectly effective gil-making methods you should be using, and random discussion. They should be working (and macro-swap gear is cheap, for the most part, unless you're being silly about it.)

I do experiment on my own time (found out I do best as DRG/SAM that way, and also found out that SAM/DRG works plenty well, too; even made my SAM to 37 using DRG sub). As for the gil-making methods, most of them take hefty amounts of time (and in the respect to crafting, gil) to do. I suppose I should be a bit clear - I'm lucky if I have 4 hours of playing time per week. At the moment, I'm checking these forums here and there - currently while having a dish soak in hot water due to roommates not having cleaned it properly before placing it in the sink to be washed. Some weeks I'm extra lucky and may get in 8 or so hours that week. Though, with the current situation I am in, I barely have time to play. I honestly wish I could play 12-16 hours a week to better myself in game and actually get towards my goal faster, but I am putting my offline duties, jobs, and responsibilities first.

My understanding for ANY melee job in exp party is:
Haste > Accuracy > Attack

Then you swap out ANY gear you can for stats that help your best WS, for example, DRGs wheeling thrust you stack as much str and accuracy on.

Also, nothing pisses me off more than lazy players.

*sighs* I cannot stress this enough - I am not lazy. I do not have time to consistently build up gil. I do gear-swap; though I will admit currently only on my WHM due to not having the gil to buy sufficient pieces for DRG WSs. However, with my current set-up as DRG/SAM, I have +11 (+14 with Hasso; +17 to +18 with Hasso and varying on food) STR without any gear-swaps. The pieces that do not have STR+ are ammo, head, both earrings, hands, one ring, back, waist, and legs. This is due to a lack of sufficient gil and also decently-priced items (or lack of items at current level) for gear-swaps. At my current rate of gil attainment, I'll be lucky to get good gear within two months before I can truly start leveling DRG again. Of course, if I get a party invite out of the blue while farming, I'll take it up. Beyond that, I'll mostly be farming my gil due to time constraints and schedule conflicts causing me to be mostly unable to do BCNMs or camp NMs. Crafting and such are out of the question due to them taking even more time and gil, where-as said gil could be immediately used for better equipment. Though, in that, I could halt all leveling progress indefinitely until a crafting skill was high enough to be of decent profit. My point on this post is that if I were to place leveling on hold until I obtained enough money to buy a whole slew of new equipment for leveling and gear-swaps, it would be months before I was up and in the fray again - much to my dismay, it seems that most people would rather see that done. So far, that's what I've been doing... all I ask is that people just understand that I am putting my personal, offline life first, before insulting me and calling me lazy for not having two to three sets of gear in my inventory for gear-swaps due to lack of gil at the time.

I'd disagree...While Haste and Accuracy are both much more important than attack, Haste is useless if you can't land the hits. Just my opinion - I always had my attack come from Hedgehog Pies while keeping a decent balance of Accuracy and Haste in gear, so I'd say they're equally important. Though I suppose DRG is blessed since Homam has a very good balance of the two so you wouldn't wind up putting much effort in figuring out a happy medium.

Take it to the flameboard, please.

Getting back to the topic I originally started this thread for - I have a couple questions.

The gear that's being advised is more or less along the lines of what I had expected. However, I can't access any game-related sites from where I am, so I can't look at gear options/stats. Please clear up the following for me:

1. What ranged options do DRGs have? Can they wear Bomb Cores or are they limited to a Tiphia Sting? What should a DRG put in that slot when he's not throwing Agnons?

2. Homam Hands/Potent Belt or Dusk Gloves/Speed Belt? (Or is it Swift? I can never remember the BC one) And with which setup should you wear OHat or the turban?

3. Homam Legs or Barone Legs (I'm guessing Barone should only be macroed in for Jumps, or am I thinking about Barone Corazza?)

4. On that note, Barone Corazza or Homam Corazza for TP build?

5. As I understand it, Neptunal Head and Legs are not easy to get (HNM drop vs. sky drop). While waiting for those, what is the best piece of gear to swap in for weapon skills? Same goes for Ace's Helm - I don't think my friend will be getting that any time soon.

6. Is Peacock Charm *really* worth it at endgame when you're fighting VTs when you can put a Chivalrous Chain in there for a fraction of the price (as well as STR and Store TP)?

7. Can DRG wear Fowling Earring and is that the best for the 2nd slot after Assault Earring?

8. Can DRG wear a Warwolf Belt? If not, what would be best for WS build?

Here's what I've got so far:

TP:
Main: Mezraq +1
Ranged: ???
Head: Ohat or Wturban ???
Neck: Peacock Charm or Chivalrous Chain ??? (in lieu of sea torque)
Ear1: Assault Earring
Ear2: Triumph or Fowling ???

Hands: Homam or Dusk ???
Ring1: Raja's
Ring2: Sniper's
Back: Amemet +1/Forager's
Waist: Potent Belt or Swift ???
Legs: Homam or Barone ???
Feet: Homam

WS:

Head: Hecatomb Cap
Neck: Elemental Gorget
Ear1: Assault Earring

Ring2: Flame Ring
Back: Amemet +1/Foragers
Waist: ???
