I think I finally quit WoW myself... but I also have this strange urge to play an old game I quit due to lack of finances back in the day when it went P2P. It kinda got lost in the rubble of new games and coincidentally FFXI. Ragnarok Online --

Now I hate korean MMOs cause they're just a dull grind, and the communities are full of dumbass retards. Though this one happened to hold my attention for a long time. It's very simple, you level grind (much like ff) only you can solo some things and group with others and whatnot. The endgame is basically just dungeons with MVP monsters on a 1 hr respawn and theres a lot of things to keep occupied with.

There wasn't much to do back in the day...there are no quests really, and story is pretty non existant, but it's a fun game overall. Now they've added more job expansion, including transcendant jobs for the crazy people who can hit 99 on a first job.

Anyway they have 15 day starter trials (free, no CC info required) to give the game a spin, and they made levelling the "noob" job so much easier since you can skip about 7 levels through the training grounds. Also a lot of lag issues and bad engrish translations appear to have been fixed. I was surprised this game still had a decent sized fanbase running it, and it still has some popularity even on the US servers. http://iro.ragnarokonline.com/

Hit me up for those looking for something new or old players who want to goof around on an old game. I even hear they save old character data from waaaaaay back. Like they never delete your characters after X time. Name's Mephs on Loki Server =D

RO. good lord. it's fun but I was playing on a free server with a bunch of brazilian dudes. it was fun for a while.

Yeah there's a bunch of private servers taht are "free" but they never appealed to me cause the content wasn't quite up to date with live servers

lolfullmodatragnamart.

But really, I missed that game alot, but unfortunately I don't think I'd ever goto the legits servers again after being hacked out of my Ghostring card. Their xp rates on iRO are like, x.70 anyhow.

i love Ragnarok, that was my favorite after diablo2, but RO is much more fun on high exp/drop rate servers, even though its not up to date, its worth it, trying all kinds of new builds. im sure theres a high populated server thats free, those are the most fun.

I was looking into that too... the server seems to be a lot more stable and secured (as long as you dont share your pw (duh!?)) than it was 3 years ago. And iRO now is x1.0 with the new transendant jobs out. I definitely level faster than I remember =]

wow iRO brings back memories XD, well i might go play this now, thanks for the "flashbacks"

Well what do you guys mean by "free" as in they need your personal info but still no fee and I'm guessing if they can hack thru your acct. your screwed?

"Free" as in not legal. However, the majority of things on the internet are of questionable legality, so, its up to you if you want to pay or not. And I agree with Flik, servers that have much higher xp rates (I know a few x70 servers... level up to level 5 in one kill, its fun!) are better to play on, just because the game gets tedious at high levels. And if you do one thing wrong with your build (The game is very elitist) you're thought of as worthless.

*Ahem* I want to give you all some advice. USE A FREE SERVER. Instead of using IRO, which charges you about as much as FFXI, go here.

Anima Ragnarok Server

- Register an account, then download the FULL client. Its all free and you dont have to give out any personal information.

-The GMs here are EXTREMELY, UNBELIEVABLY dedicated. Hackers ALWAYS get caught and they are always up to date on software. They really care about the players ALOT.

-Its free, its friendly, and I can help any of you level if you need it. Ragnarok is absolutely kick ass and I would strongly recommend it. But it is NOT worth paying a monthly fee for. Just use the Anima Free Server.

-Anima is CONSTANTLY updated, has all available Transcendant Classes, custom NPCs, x3 EXP and x3 Drop rates, making it easier to level than the Official server but not too fast.

-The community is AMAZING.

The other thing with private servers is they are in fact, illegal, and the other issue is that when the admins get bored of it, it will disappear.

Illegal? Sure. Do I care? Not really. Until gravity sues, it will continue.

As for the admins getting bored? This particular server (Anima) changes owners as they fall out of interest. Debbie, the current owner, bought it off the previous owner who had real life taking over. This isnt some shmuck server that will last about a year. This is a well kept server run by dedicated individuals. Plus Debbie just upgraded to a better server and hardware, so unless she wants to throw away the money on the server and hardware, she will keep it going for a while longer.

She has also already stated that she will make sure to keep the server going so long as IRO stays up. If she runs into rl problems, she has substitute admins to take over. Like I said, this isnt some chump server.

Will Anima server last indefinetly? Nope. But will IRO either? Nope.

Eh... I only recently heard what Nnep did. Course he was the last person I'd expect to do that... but whatever someone wants to do is their business. It's just a game and all =p

Besides, I never really was a huge part of impervious, another reason I kinda backed off the game for a while.

What makes private servers illegal? and what safeguard keeps the admin from getting sued?
