Burning Crusade breaks single day sales record

What the fuck are you talking about? Blizzard has always distributed to China. Square-Enix never has, to this day. Final Fantasy games aren't well known there. Warcraft is. Why would you bother running advertisements for a game in a country you're not even selling it in? The only people buying FFXI in those areas are people who have either lived in other parts of the world and played them, or have played the previous Final Fantasy games through import or emulation.

Otherwise, you're not even going to know what it is.

I assume you know every product that comes out in every remote country, right Mokk? If not, you have got to be fucking kidding me.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Korea is quite possibly the most internet/gaming friendly country in the world. Stating that they don't know what's not advertised and that the importers are a minority in the first country with a professional gaming league (both console and internet) is fucking naive at best. At it's worst it's a braindead generalistic statement made out of desperation to save face in a topic you've no business conducting yourself the way you have thusfar. I'll leave that for other readers to decide.

If i lived in a country that celebrated video games with uncapped broadband you bet your ass i'd know everything there was to know worth knowing about game releases. That's the difference between you and me on topics that don't regard FFXI, i look around for information before sticking my foot in my mouth.

Take your pathetic posturing uneducated ass elsewhere, Skaw. You've been turned out too many times on this thread. Usually i've got nothing but respect for you but you're grasping at straws and coming off like a real asshole for no reason whatsoever other than whatever delusions you're under based on the fact you inferred more content than you managed to read of any of the responses directed at you or that took your interest.

Oh right, and i assume that whatever you've not seen an ad for doesn't exist right skaw? After all no one does random searches or keeps up with their favorite dev teams wether they've got access to some of the material or not, right?

So the foreign commercials for FFXI (if they even exist but for an example lets just say they do) you've never seen prove that everyone in japan and europe is lying because without ads that are carried in your country you don't know they exist and can't confirm based on their claims.

Real nice logic there i daresay you've managed Isotope-like reasoning.

Way to lower the bar.

I still stand by my reasoning that no localized version turns away many would be players. While Chinese and Japanese share many of the same characters in the written language, Korean is wrote entirely different. There is no support for typed Korean characters in the game. While there are for French, German, and Spanish(Since they all use standard characters) for the European release. Now, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't play a game I could not communicate in. Even if I knew about it coming out and could import it.

prove that everyone in japan and europe is lying because without ads that are carried in your country you don't know they exist and can't confirm based on their claims.

Rephrase that shit better. What the hell are you trying to say? That Final Fantasy XI has never been advertised in an EU or Japanese Video Game magazine/TV and they're living proof the game sells despite lack of advertising?

What a silly arguement this has come to, all because you couldn't accept me saying that the release in Asia alone was enough to secure the popularity as true. The area of the world with the most deaths due to grinding away at Blizzard, and any other game titles. And yet you refute that comment. Brilliance at it's best.

The rest of the world doesn't matter. The moment they sat down and decided to release in South East Asia, the game was a hit.

One point we can agree on. This has become silly. The reasoning, however, is because you can't see where i agree fully with your assertion that asia = win.

Simply because i'm impressed by the north american numbers and made note of it does not mean i've disparaged the asian figures at all in this thread. I did note, somewhat incorrectly, that the population comparisons between the number of players in asia versus north america was a little less impressive by comparison due to the wide gap in the numbers because as we know mainland China has no shortage on people who occupy it.

All i was saying is millions of players on a single game is impressive to me and the fact that there's a turnover rate large or small is really inconsequential (sp?). The fact that they market to such a large audience is notable because if other companies such as SE were to do so they would be infinately more popular and enjoy the same success as there are quite a few games such as the afformentioned Archlord which are piles of steaming digital waste flooding the asian (among other) markets.

I cannot abide the assertion that simply because there is no support for the korean language there are not koreans who speak other varying languages who play the games be they import or otherwise given the varying titles we've touched on. We simply disagree on this point it would seem.

As far as game induced death goes all i can say is this; stupid is as stupid does, sir. There's really not that many MMOs out there with a clean slate as far as degenerate imbiciles who happen to be players making the news for causing some kind of heinous bullshit. If i'm to hold you to your ideal presented in this last post i assume you're part of the anti-doom/rock music movement which as i'm sure we'd both note is absurd.

Now then, i have an xpack to go play. My time has finally freed up for more than a few minutes at a time to have a dick fight over nothing with you. Next time we happen to have interest in the same topic i hope our discourse is much more pleasant.

And I distinctly said it's not advertised in those countries. You cannot play what you do not know to exist. Sure, theres people everywhere that know of something that isn't sold in their country and can get a hold of it, but they're the extreme minority.

To this day, I have yet to see the game advertised over here, either. It's in stores, rarely... went to three Gamestops today looking for a new copy of Psychonauts and only saw one copy of FFXI at one of the stores, and thats about all the advertisment I've seen from it... the boxes that is. I'm sure at least a few major Korean gamestores sell it as well. Either way, doesn't really matter one way or another, if they care to play it, they'll figure it out when they realize the series skipped from 10 to 12, at the very least. If they don't care about the FF series, as a majority, then it doesn't matter if they majorly distributed it there in the first place, there isn't a market for the game.

There was actually a pretty big ad campaign by SE for about 2 months prior to the NA PC release in 2003. The tagline for the campaing was "Community." However, since that campaign there has been virtually no advertising from SE in NA with the exception of print ads. I do remember seeing a couple of brief ToAU commercials on Adult Swim for a couple of weeks prior to its release.

Couldn't have been to big if I, off all people, missed it >.> We're talking major, I thought.

Big enough that it ran TV ads for a couple of months, even on network channels. I remember seeing a few 15-30 sec spots on ABC during the college football season that year.
