So I just bought an external burner for my lappy

I'm wondering what movie file types the 360 can support when I start burning dvds. They recently came up with a patch that allows .avi files to play straight through from your pc to your 360 via Zune or Windows Media Player (newest version I believe). Just need a little help how to go about burning stuff so it'll play and not give me error messages forcing me to convert file types.

I don't have an X-Box 360, so I can't help you there; but if you want to burn a movie to a dvd that you can put into a standard dvd player, you'll need to rip the content of the dvd as an ISO image and then burn the image onto a new dvd. DVD Decrypter can do both of those, and it's free. Just do a google search. You'll also need Dual Layer DVDs for burning.

I view a lot of videos on my xbox, either from discs or streamed from my pc. There are some .avi files that won't play, but I found this nifty tool that will take care of all video files.

This nifty program does conversion to .wmv on the fly, and if you tweak the settings a bit, you'll have practically no load time at all past the initial load.

Now keep in mind, you won't need to use this for all file types. The 360 has quite a few codecs that will play a large variety of file types, but tversity will work for the ones that won't.
