My buddy Dar was vomiting on Vent last night (he calls it "talking" but I dunno) about the upcoming season in terms of PC gaming. Did a little searching and added to the list myself... below is a nearly complete list of must-plays for people who like the associated genres.

Bioshock - August 21
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - September 3
MoH: Airborne - September 4
World in Conflict - September 18
Painkiller: Overdose - October TBA
Team Fortress 2 - October TBA
HL2: Episode 2 - October TBA
Portal - October
NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer - October
Left 4 Dead - October
Hellgate: London - October
CoD4: Modern Warfare - October
FEAR: Perseus Mandate - November
Crysis - November
SupCom: Forged Alliance - November
UT3 - November
Gears of War - December

Then to kick off 2008 are two more winners:

Alan Wake - January
Tom Clancy's EndWar - January

...and that's just the titles I recognized. Below are 4 more that are released before December but look pretty freakin sweet so far:

Heavy Duty (looks like MechWarrior 4)
TimeShift (looks like Portal)
They Hunger: Lost Souls (HL2 with zombies instead of aliens)
Beowulf (havent seen screens but the movie has hot chix)

I think the arcades will be a little lonely for the next few months. I've never seen so many hyped titles coming out at once - I see at least $600 in games I have to buy just for the peen.

It sucks, cause I don't think my box can handle half of those titles.

Maybe with all the settings turned down, but then why bother?

Well I got Bioshock on the way... I figure it'll finally finish off my computer and make me get a new one. Crysis on my current rig just isn't going to work -.- (I've been holding off hoping for the price of things to go down /cough processors and GTX video cards, but that doesn't seem to be happening quick enough.)

In all this is a good year for computer games, even old school RTS players are getting CoH expansion and the current new Civilization expansion (which is really nice).

Only thing missing is a new RPG to fill in for Oblivian. Fallout 3 is going to be nice, but based off the interviews, it's going for depth of a smaller area instead of that massive feel that Oblivian had.

NWN2 was unbelievable but a lot more d20 sort of stuff and less action than Oblivion. I think there's a sequel on the way though but likely not due until late 08 or even 09.

Picked up Bioshock today... first time I've ever waited in line for a games store to open. Special Edition comes with a small brass model of a Big Daddy for a measly $10 more, along with the 'making of' DVD and a music CD with a few tracks.

I fear Crysis as well... I don't want to upgrade until AMD makes up their freakin minds about what socket they want to use (AM3 is due for H108) but with Crysis and UE3 hitting the shelf this year I might be forced to expedite.

Wasn't TF2/Portal/HL2: Ep. 2 coming in one package?

They all look great though. Medal of Honor: Airborne especially.

I just wish there'd be another Timesplitters sequel. I loved making maps on TS3 ; ;

I don't think so. Episode 2 comes in the "Orange Box" package for HL2, which includes HL2 + CS:S + Ep1 + Ep2.

TF2 is standalone as is Portal; while they both use the Source engine they will be sold separately.

Never heard of Timesplitters though.

Different topics. I kinda hop around a lot in my posts :/

I'm surprised Stranglehold wasn't mentioned in this. Supposed to be a badass next-gen Max Payne with destroyable everything.

Here's a post from lolgamefaqs:

somethings in game i want to share about.

almost anything and everything is breakable in the game.

the hero tequilla can use something called tequilla time which is similar to shootdodge time in MAXPAYNE.

you get style points to your enemy's if u headshot them or perform other various stunt's.

more style points you get faster the tequilla bomb meter fills, as the meter fills u get four powers one after the other.

1st power is HEALTH - you can restore health by this power.

2nd power is PRECISION AIM - use this mode to go into sniper mode. There is no seperate sniper rifle in this game.

3rd and 4th power is really awesome, it wont be unlocked untill you reach chapter 2 and 3 respectively and they are not available in demo.

3rd power is BARRAGE - tequilla loads his "special" ammo for the weapon held at that time, which causes a lot more damage than the usual ammo (The weapon load animation for each weapon is simply awesome)

4th power is SPIN ATTACK - tequilla shoots at all enemy's in his visibility (The animation of tequilla shooting while spinning SUPERB and this is my favorite move)

Yeah, I don't get it either. They had me at:

almost anything and everything is breakable in the game.

Just watch the videos and look at all the SSs over the net, you'll see what I mean by badass :P

Although they've delayed this like 2 years already.. It'll supposedly release in September.

EDIT: Damn typos

I've heard this line mentioned for about two dozen games over the past 5 years, and I have yet to see proof of it.

Sure you can break objects - tables, chairs, flower pots, shit like that. Hell we can go as far back as Duke3D to testify that much. The destructive physics haven't changed much since then though, they've only gotten prettier.

When a game is released where you can blow holes in the wall, in any wall, or blast a chunk of the roof out with a rocket launcher, then I'll be impressed. When you can hold a grenade pinned out for 2 seconds then toss it in a ventilation shaft so it collapses the whole thing and destroys that hole as an ambush point for bad guys, then I'll be impressed. I'm getting sick of hearing all these games claim that the environment is 100% destructable when it's only the objects they're talking about.

That Stranglehold game sounds pretty sweet though. Max Payne was good but the repetitiveness got to me after a while. Adding in some powerups and special moves like that could be exactly what the game was previously missing for me.

They look like hives here with all the little people crawling all over them.

lol, yeah looks like a busy year for you. =p

I would probably only try Bioshock, NWN2, and Gears of War (since I dont have a 360) when they come out.

Bioshock though will probably be addictive for me. Wondering if I will show up on FFXI anytime soon when I get my copy. o.O

Also I think the new expansion for Guild of Wars is coming. Probably pop on a few times to play it when I get a copy.
