Show of hands on who all gets literally nauseous when they see this pop on the screen..

Do us all a favor and save $15 a month and keep reading the book... short post, doubt this thread goes too far .. but damnit that's the BIGGEST pet peeve i could have about MMO's in general, specificly when this statement is made when having a conversation about job combinations are recently updated game content .. if yer gonna play your game by what some jackass writes in a book, spare us all the commentary in game.

I don't really get upset with them for it. I did it myself when starting this game. I went in the mindset that I wanted to do my best. Since there was a lack of information at the time, I didn't know anything beyond what the book told me. The book just shows they are trying.

I remember the first edition for PS2 said that Summoner could not solo anything, and made Nin/Rdm a viable sub...

The guide has it's uses. One of my RL friends gave me his when he quit, and I've used it a couple times. Some of the quest info is good, like for advanced jobs. Just because they have a guide though, doesn't mean they haev the best or most current info, and they need to realize this. In regards to the jobs, I'd listen to a high level over the guide anyday in regards to subs/roles.

Just inform them of sites like Mystery Tour, Killing Ifrit, Allakhazam, FFXI.Somepage, and all of the other sites with massive amounts of continuously updated info. They're using the guides because they don't know about any of these sites.

/em swings a tack hammer at the n00b

LMFAO

::seethes at the thought of valkurm::

if you have the sack i recommend soloing as long as possible to avoid that place, i usually go to 20 before i pt, cos if you haven't got it by qufim ... your not going to. i've ptd there once. and only once .. the motivation behind this post was actually due to something that happened in that one party... noob spawning grounds are eeeeeeeeeeevil, specificly that one since now all noob pts have to have a whm plvling them or they all die cos they suck :P

It's not that i mind when someone says to me "Hey you just said this ... but my guide says this, what's the deal .. give me a credible reason to belive what you say." it's more the "THE BOOK IS NEVER WRONG STUPID GALKA, SHUT YOUR FILTHY HOLE BEFORE I STRIKE YOU DOWN WITH MY NOOBISHNESS." which happens alot more than it should .. unfortunately at all lvls..

IT's always good to buy the guide for additional info. However, everyone (just imo) should always discredit the info on jobs and combos as they can be discovered for personal taste and usefullness overtime. I always pick up the guide just to know all I can about crafting, areas, quest, missions, etc. The upper edge is always good but reading to much into the *opinions* of guides (ie: Brady Games' job description and combo section) can be devistating and lead to alot of stupid decisions.

What is wrong is the guide is sold as the “Official Strategy Guide”. If SE is going to endorse such a guide, they need to make sure it doesn’t errors in it. As well for such a guide to exist for a MMO, they need to publish electronic updates for it that you can download after you buy the guide.

I must agree with you on this point. Any game that has living code, shouldn't print out hard copies of a guide. If you want to sell an official guide, sell it on a disc and make new updates available everytime there is a patch.

Well, the downside to doing that is that not everyone has a windower or plays on the PS2, so they wouldn't be able to access it whenever theywere playing. With an actual book though, you can check it out whenever you want. $20 is still a lot for a book that will be out of date in a month, but if they keep up with releases and lowered the price, they wouldn't be so bad.

Your just print it out.

That's a couple dozen reams of paper at least, plus you might not know you need something beforehand, so you don't print it out.

The guide as it is now isn’t that big. When an update comes out it only includes the new / changed pages. You just keep it all in a 3 ring binder and tear out or add the new pages. There are a few books on the Internet that are already disturbed this way.

I once read the GameFaQ's pld guide and thought taru pld/whm was good, boy do I feel stupid ^_~

Now I check, double check, and crossreference any info I get so I make sure I get it right. Luckily I have more experience now than back then too ^^

Here here.

I've also found there's absolutely no shame in asking someone who's up in lvls on you out of the blue, the worst they can say is piss off or i dunno.

Look at the Bastok quest called "Wish Upon a Star" in the markets area in the guide. Perfect example of why Brady sucks as a reference outside the most basic of things.

Requirements: None *Bullshit, I needed some fame for this.*
Item(s) Needed: A Fallen Star *I don't remember if the name was right.*
Reward: A chunk of water ore... *BULLSHIT!! Cactus Stems*

You will find a harvesting point at... *No you won't, you'll find it somewhere in that general area, but they were off by about three grids on the map, and you all KNOW how far that can be in Yhoater.

I wasted an assload of time trying to find their wrong coordinates, lost my bird and my life, wasted more time finding the right spot, and then when I finnally return for my glorious reward... shafted.

Sure it sold well, but wasn't worth the time. I also read up on what you can grow, but I'm 0/16 on elemental ore growin, so I don't even want to try cactus stems.
