Another dumb question.

Now that I am quickly approaching the levels I can use these armours, its time to decide what would be best and cost efficient.

Byrnie looks very excellent and very good for the amount it costs, and I was looking at having it crafted.

Haubergeon isn't that great other than the attack, accuracy and stats, but the -20 evasion is a real killer. Buying the materials for this to be crafted would be a waste, farming is also not something I would want to do.

Scorpion Harness, the most expensive but best of the 3 is 6 million+ last I checked. Having this crafted would be way more expensive than buying it, and farming a claw might be possible, but with my luck, I wouldn't get it. Farming the gil would probably make me bored out of my mind and make me want to quit.

Byrnie materials will only set me back about 1.3 million hopefully, which I have.

So, should I just put up with the farming, or get the materials to have someone craft a Byrnie?

If you're a Ninja, Scorpion Harness. All the way.
+10 evasion and accuracy.

After it, its up to you. Both the other two are fun-pieces that no one will rag on you for not having, they put you into the "elite" of the job, gear wise for that level.

Haha you said you coupld camp a V Claw.... lolz.... you'ld never be able to get one of those solo'ing much less at 50...

For ninja and all your other jobs (thf that i can think of) you'll want a SH. As much as it sucks it's just one of those uber peices that will last a long time and be very helpful for many jobs. So once you get it, you'll be happy because for other jobs you level it'll last them a long time too. Best way I can tell you, is to take some time and study crafting. When I say study I dont mean do. Take a look at certain paths you could take for crafts and see if the profit/cost is worth it. Because if you raise a craft up high enough to make money, that is something you'll never lose (but it will take an initial deposit of money and time). Farming will take a long time, but would be the most preferred method to try for many.

Yeah, as a ninja I'd say scorpion harness would be the best bet for tanking. Most of the ninja's that I have partied with used a scorpion harness for tanking and then macro'd in a hauby or a byrnie for weaponskills then changed back to the scorpion harness. No one really expects you to have 2 of those armors, but scorpion harness would be the best bet.

If you're not a ninja, the -20 evasion and -5 agi on a hauby isn't a real big concern for the other jobs that don't have to tank.

Would a good solution be to get the materials for Byrnie, then later get a Scorpion Harness, or possibly use my AF body for the enhanced dual wield, then later buy a Scorpion Harness or get V. Claw and have it crafted.

Unless the prices have changed a LOT lately, I beg to differ ;x

The behemoth leather was only 1.2 million. Maybe I need to redo my math, but I checked earlier, and behemoth leather was the only material over 1 million, unless I missed something.

If you're a Ninja, get a scorpion harness.
If you're a rich ninja, get a scorpion harness and a haubergeon for WS.
If you're a mother fucking loaded ninja, get all three and use byrnie for low acc mobs and soloing, haubergeon for WS, and scorpion harness for exp.

Behemoth leather never sells on AH. Hides are over 5 mil.

Leather is probably that much on AH, cause thats the last it probably sold for, well over a year ago. Most peeps get the Hide, have it crafted to Leather and go on from there.

SH is definetly the way to go for ninja, or anyone else who expects to be hit alot.

Byrnie is more of a piece for PLDs.

Haubergan is defienetly a terribale choice for tanking, but is excelent DD gear.

Oh man, 2 years ago last sale. Farming, here I come.

At 50 there are so many better ways to make money than "Farming", unless you know a quality way to farm and make a good amount of gil/hour. At 50 there are a wide variety of BCNM 40's and 50's you can partake in as a NIN (PCC anybody? Although thats a horrid drop rate that i wouldnt wanna test my luck on...) And crafting like suggested. I'm lvl 56 main and have more than half of what a SH would cost, having RARELY ever farmed anything. Im sure if i put more effort into crafting or farming, gil wouldnt be an issue (Although as a PLD, it isnt...).

Good luck to ya, hope you make your 6+ mil soon ^^

SH is overrated, go Byrnie if you must choose one. It's more bang for your buck and I never really used SH much (after I finally learned this lesson) except for when I was fighting something I either shouldn't have been or just starting out a new area (higher in level). SH helps but I've saw way better NIN's in my time toss it out and do better than those with it. It all boils down to how good at the job you are.

*THREAD HIJACK*

For a war, Hauby or Byrnie?

*END HIJACK*

For a Ninja, you won't do better than SH, but that's only because a Ninja can use both of its major stats - accuracy and evasion.

Byrnie is a great option as well, though, of course, and if you end up able to afford Byrnie but not SH, I doubt most parties would really fault you for it - it's just another way to play - but you'd probably end up having to focus a little more Evasion into other slots to compensate a little.

Nothing does more for weapon skill power than Haubergeon, but as pointed out, it bites big time for Ninjas except as a macro swap piece.

Edit: Added:

For a war, Hauby or Byrnie?

If you can only choose one, and you know you will not be tanking, Haubergeon all the way.

I do believe Decidence found that overall, Byrnie+1 > Haubergeon+1 > Haubergeon > Byrnie.

There is no discussion that SH is the best armor for a ninja during exp once you reach the level where you can wear it.
Accuracy helps getting hate and Evasion is pretty much everything at that level. Enmity is also very helpful.
But that wasn't the question.

Byrnie is better to tank in than Haubergeon but not nearly as good for DD.
It is however better to use for a very few WS's than the Hauby.

As for material cost and armor cost.
Buying materials will cost you about the same as the armor itself, can usually even get the armor abit cheaper.

And as for farming the materials, not the money to buy materials.
Not possible to get either V. claw, D. ingot or B. hide solo at your level.

Probably SH. I might get a byrnie just for the fact that I'm cheap as hell and my parrying is high from pld.

Also I believe the Dual Wield Enhancement on NIN AF body is only about 2-3% faster swings, not good enough to merit not using byrnie or SH full time.

I've heard of people using Haubergeon full time on nin with a bard so they can cast utsu ichi between swings of the mob and not get interupted. In my opinion SH would probably the best on IT mobs because you won't spend so much time casting utsu so you can swing more. Accuracy always helps.

I do believe Decidence found that overall, Byrnie+1 > Haubergeon+1 > Haubergeon > Byrnie.

That's probably for blade: jin not for every WS. jin has dex mod.

Gonna bandwagon here say say that an ellipsis is "...", not "...."
I KEEL YOU.

Anyhow, you really shouldn't go saying crap like that. Tons of people had Haubergeon/SH/whatever before their first job could use one.

Though, for this topic...NIN can do pretty well with Byrnie if their damage doesn't seem to be breaking the enemy's defense (which at around their area, is VERY common); I've personally found that the +att/stat changes of Byrnie effect a NIN's hate control and such much better than an SH, and really, if 10acc/eva is a make-or-break issue, be glad you weren't around before the times of Sushi...
