Alright I have a Byrnie from over a year ago as something i bought just for fun, back when i had money... >.>

I still have it, and I've never actually used the damn thing closest thing I have to 60 is my 59 PLD.

Point is, I'm leveling WAR now and I'm level 40, and I've decided to continue after almost 8 months of break. Thing is with Sushi now, I'm deciding whether Haubergneon is needed, or whether or not I can go all out STR rings, one of those OGRE bracelets probably the Lv 50 one, HOPEFULLY a PCC, and maybe a life belt, and use Byrnie.

I have already purchased a sniper's ring just in case but I'm not sure whether Haubergneon or Byrnie is better, and if you guys can recommend some Equipement setups for both sets of armor. thanks

I know bigger forums like alla have this stuff, but I DONT want to hafta sift through 100 posts of dribble to find 5 legit posts.

Thanks!

byrnie v haub

byrnie relevant stats:
str+3, atk+20

haub relevant stats:
str+5, dex+5, acc+10, atk+10

Essentially going with life belt and byrnie is like going with swordbelt and haub... and you lose 2 str and 5 dex with lb/byrnie

Tank benefits from vit+3 and hp+25 from byrnie, but much rather have haub for DD war.

Only downside is b/c haub gives such a dmg boost you'll end up pulling hate and dying due to eva-20 (and agi-5)^^

haub(59), pcc(33), enky bracelet(50) (pallas at 60), pair of victory rings(54), spike earring(55), assault earring(58 ), life belt(48 ), AF feet/legs(52/58 ) and sole sushi is a good set
especially going for str build with good acc
head there are a lot of ok options, the two rare/ex voyager sallet(41) and patroclus' helm(60) being the best imo
ammo, tiphia sting(58 ) is ok, until bomb core(63)... before that ranged weapon to use is cc boomerang+1(43) (or +2 if you can get it)

If you can't afford pcc, a spike neck nets you some str, but you end up losing it since you'll prob want to replace one or both vic ring with a sniper's.
spike neck + 2x sniper's = 3str, 3dex, 10acc
pcc + 2x victory ring = 8str, 10acc, -$$$

note: enkelados brace is +7str, pallas is +9, so better to invest in pcc than pallas

This is a Warrior. Not a RNG or a DRK. He/she will be more than okay under these circumstances.

So ideally I'm trying to have both by the time i hit 60, but I'd like to hear more opinions thanks to Strid and gir who have already given helpful input!

yeah, strid, more than likely he'll be ok, i just happened to have one particular incident involving gobbies in gustav in mind =D

(also don't think rng have to worry about haub giving them eva-20)

oh check edit on post above for additional info

Sushi is not a replacement for good accuracy gear. The cap is low, so it only replaces about or two sniper rings. On top of that, the problem arises from having fewer ACC when fighting high evasion mobs. Also, Sushi isn't the *best* DD food out there. Think of the Pasta dishes that you can get alone. All of them give a Store TP of 4 or more, and a few give huge bonuses to ATT, STR, and even Double Attack. I'd rather be flexible with foods than with Armor.

Generally after 60 you head to Onzozo, SorrowVall, and Bibiki. All 3 are full of high eva mobs that you'll be wiffing quite often with. So once the equip in question becomes relevant, it becomes important. I understand if someone cannot afford it financially, but I'd say you're better off ditching the Byrnie and fundraising for the Hauby and a pair of Snipers.

WAR got kinda shafted with AF, so their equip is pretty expensive, but on the bright side, if you have some friends in high places you can get some awesome rare/ex weaponry.

Ideally, most should DD carry two sets of equip, ACC and ATT setups. They both are needed depending on what you are doing. Chaining VT mobs with ATT setups is great because you don't worry about wiffing without the ACC. WAR sometimes even need a third set for tanking, in case party finding comes into a bad way. I suppose AF could fill some of that role due to the large enmity boosts.

What it comes down to is this, play the job to the level you think you should be playing it. If your equip is what you think you're doing well with, go ahead and use it. I think the Byrnie was a little useless for anyone but a DD PLD.

I have dual war/nin tanks in my static. They love thier hauby/hauberk. What they tend to go with a mixture of gear STR/ACC gear. As a WAR you dont NEED to stack ACC like other DD jobs(however this makes you more flexable if you decide to have 2 sets of equips). Agressor is HUGE for WAR. I feel that sometimes a full set of ACC+ equip will go to waste on a WAR, so its nice to have good mixture, however for those rare instances where you need more ACC, its nice to have that gear available.

Byrnie's only really good for NIN, in my opinion.

thing about DMG food vs ACC food is that one experienced player i was talking to on another server said that...

normally for many WS, you try and stack strength for the modifier, but because a lot of the str slots are also used for accuracy, u miss more on the WS. He said Sushi shines here becuase u can stack the STR items and ur accuracy will still be there so to speak.

So Byrnie isn't good? alright then

They don't but I was more directing the whole post toward the saying "You'll pull to much hate and die." RNG's have to worry about getting face-raped like a DRK, SAM etc but a WAR can take a good beating. You know what I mean ;)

Aha! you all seem to have missed the key point here... the Byrnie has a stylish Orange color scheme! hauby can't compete with that!

Haub(either one) > Byrnie for any melee. the str is better, the attk is a little less, but you get the added bonus of acc. blah blah its all been said

I personally have both, Byrnie just for the looks and 60 cap stuff ^^

Almost more than my own mother.

Byrnie isn't worth it. The only thing I like about Byrnie is 20eva more than the Haub. WAR's evasion skill is matched only by your average stone monument, so it's hardly worth wasting valuable gear slots to improve on it. Byrnie is also much better for farming, but by the time you can wear either of them you're better off farming in full AF.

The +acc is what really shines about the Hauby. As D said, Aggressor is -big-. I believe the current tested results put Aggressor as +25acc -25eva, which is more +acc than any single piece of equipment in the game, anywhere. Put the two together, add in sushi, and you can go nuts piling on all the +STR you can find. In the long run, that will be much, much more beneficial to you as nearly all of the axe & great axe WS's have STR as a primary modifier.

Additionally, when you hit lv69, you can have a high-level smither turn your Haubergeon into a Hauberk (Hauby is the main ingredient to Berk recipe).

From what I saw, haubergeon costs more than hauberk now so better to sell and buy =P

Yup.

Haubergeon + materials + tip ends up losing quite a bit in the upgrade. Unless you get real lucky and it HQs. Wouldn't count on it.

Tyrath = nerd. HA! U CANT TOUCH DIS bwowm chika bom chikchik babom chikchik babom

I didn't realize that... still I'd go the synth route. I have a Hauberk [Motley] and if I had the choice again to either sell Haub & buy Berk or get Berk synthed & signed, I'd still choose the latter. But then again not all my decisions have been heralded as 'brilliant'.
