Campaign - How do we gain control?

One of the problems since the update was that now army forces now also do stalwart defense in the cities even when there are no possible attacks. That, I believe, is why all nations quickly lost territory, because they were defending areas not needed to be defended.

Now Windurst got Fort Karugo-Narugo back and we still have 2-3 units defending the city when they should be doing attacks like the Yagudo are.

I do like the idea of a Campaign Linkshell or a Nation Campaign Linkshell... but most people tend to do this solo and are most unlikely to work as a team effort when it comes to just getting EXP.

They made smn and sch that way to encourage smn and sch to do campaign.
Before they did that smn would be as screwed in campaign as it is in besieged as avatar actions in besieged do not add up on exp gain and your basicly degraded to either curebot or meleesummoner.

And yes, because of this I love to play summoner in campaign.
thats strange cause i've always gained big numbers in beseiged and in campaign with my smn all the time. and i spammed by BP's as much as i could.:bb:

When WotG was just out they hadn't implemented ward buffs hitting everyone yet.
They changed that to the buffs hitting everyone just a week after release.

As for besieged, I just took out my trusy whifflebat and whacked the mobs with it for the exp.
Aside from that, using the temporary items you get there also counts up to your exp gain.
Quite significantly I might add.

As a lifelong Bst, I'd just be happy if they'd make it so you don't lose jugpets in the past when you zone. I mean, come on! If we can have a pet in every zone, how hard a change could that be to make?

When I was going through the list of question that people wanted to as the developers on wiki I don't think this one came up. However there was alot of beastmaster questions. Only one that had more was pup. Lol poor pups after reading some there problems I pity them.

Just a little info on the importance of strategies:

After the conquest tally, I checked our strategy with Sandy's "spy" and was pleased to discover that this week we're on Preemptive Strike/Battleline Preservation. While that's not all that I'd hoped for, I'm pleased to report that for the first time in recent memory, we have forces attacking East Ron besides Cerane L. Virgaut and the Aragoneau Knights. I think that's a step in the right direction.

Here's some further supposition on my part - maybe if we can invert that strategy next week (i.e., Preservation/Strike), we'll have brought all our forces home to beat the hell outta East Ron while only occasionally striking out at other Orc-controlled areas. In my opinion, we should only go with Strike as our main strategy once we control at least half our zones. I remember one week where we did control everything with a strat combo of Strike/Sabotage and there was a battle breaking out in La Vaule every 5 minutes. If we'd had Preservation as our fallback strat, I think we'd have not lost so many zones so quickly once our guys started mounting their offensive on the Orcish stronghold.

The more I think about it, the more I think SE's intention was for Campaign to be a weekly cooperative effort on the part of all players. If that's the case, perhaps we should devote a thread specifically for National strategy discussions. I'd love to think a Campaign LS was feasible, but I know I personally would only have just so much time I could devote to it, splitting my time between my social and endgame as I do; so maybe using Qcdn as our communications base would make more sense.

Pending interest and mod approval, what would you guys think of a section specifically devoted to it?

Well Windy has had fort Kaugo-Narugo now for a few days and it has been a bit of a struggle defending it. I sort of miss being able to just camp in windy and let the battles come to us.

One nice thing is you don't have all the /brd bots just siting there leeching xp.

Yes fort Kaugo-Narugo is non-stop action I just hang out there if I have free time for campiagn, its being hard-fought by the npc's too kinda a treat to watch it unfold. :)

I love Campaign, I really do. A lot of posts in here are really saying exactly what friends and I have been talking about in linkshell or in /tells during battles.

We need to pick up on our Campaign Ops. Celv mentioned, earlier in the thread, the Ops mission 'Slaughterhouse I-III' and thats something we need to do. It'll take the enemy out right where they're hurting us outside, the Fortifications. Also mentioned before, by Reauland I believe, resource procurement. Ops missions to make/supply resources to our troops and our nations. Bastok has near max morale but we're piss poor. We need to work on that, yes? You can't run a war when you have no money for weapons.

Tons of people in this thread have mentioned the Transporters and the need to neutralize them, a valid point as well. What we absolutely need to do most... is organize. I felt bad for it but I practically bossed around Bastok a few weeks ago >.> Got all the NPCs invovled in the fight, kiting to them and healing people where I could on PLD and then fighting (of course). Got the best EXP return I'd ever gotten which was 2770. If we can only get a good amount of people to have the balls to run out to our front lines (N. Gustaberg , E. Ronfaure , W. Sarutabaruta ) our cities wouldn't be getting attacked.

Meh, going to stop posting before I start frothing at the mouth. Campaign battles and the overall victory of the Allied Nations has really gotten my fires burning and is the best battle addition (I think) from any expansion we've had.

I can't help but notice that Windy's prosperity is way on up there, higher than I've seen any nation's in a while. If I might ask, what is you guys' current Strat/Substrat according to your "spy"? I really think that plays a larger role in a nation's success than we currently realize.

I'm in Sea atm but I can guarantee it isn't anything towards resource renewal or creation. I'm really not sure Bastok has anyone using that NPC to be quite honest.

yeaa,, only used it once at the start and pretty much forgot about it. Probably gonna go suggest some offensive actions, wondering what the favorite commander part does tho

For those who want to regain control of a zone this weekend here are some VERY good strategies I've found.

First: There is almost a guaranteed way to make the beastmen retreat. It takes a little coordination, but it works very well, and I saw it pulled off in Grauberg yesterday.

You need a killing party and a dedicated puller.

1. Select a camp that is far from the fortress-the Campaign Arbiter is a good place to start.

2. This is the most important step, have the puller stationed immediately in front of the place where the friendly NPCs warp in. When they do, drag a group of mobs directly in front of them and pull the mobs (and the friendly NPCs) all the way to the camp. Do everything you can to get the leader (Maximillian, Invincible Shield, etc) to follow.

3. Allied NPCs are stupid, they'll attack whatever is directly in front of them. So long as there is a mob in camp, they will attack it. The key is to always have a mob in camp for them to fight. Sleep whatever mobs they aren't attacking and assist the Allied NPCs. Since the Allied Forces of Altana won't be blindly rushing in to the fortress to get killed, the campaign will continue for as long as they're still alive. The Grauberg campaign I took party in yesterday where this strategy was utilized went on for nearly an hour and a half.

4. When there is one mob left in camp, the puller needs to go out and get another set. IMPORTANT: DO NOT PULL THE BOSS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. While killing the boss usually makes them retreat faster, it is not a requirement. If you kill enough of the normal mobs, enemy morale will go down until they eventually retreat, leaving the fortress open for attack. Pulling the boss will make them retreat faster, but as you've seen the bosses usually have some VERY cheap moves that can wipe everyone in a short amount of time. They go down easily when fighting against multiple friendly forces (say, the 2nd Division and the Field Musicians at the same time), but when you're on the offensive, you usually only get one friendly unit. It's much easier to pull the normal mobs until they retreat.

And that's it... long campaigns with lots of points and Allied victories. It takes some teamwork and some planning, but it works like a charm. Now, there's a second element to retaking zones:

  • Gain your mission from Hieronymus.
  • He will send you to the Quartermaster (Bastok) located at (H-9).
  • The Quartermaster (Bastok) will tell you to go to "Beastman influenced" area and attack any Beastmen Supply Divisions & Seize their cargo.
  • Go to a Beastmen-controlled zone and seek out a Beastmen transporter (Yagudo, Orc, Quadav) and two Guards. This can be any Beastmen controlled zone. It doesn't necessarily have to be one in your allied nation's area. The Transporter and Guards will be making a supply run.
  • Surprise the Transporter with a successful Sneak Attack from behind, any critical hit from behind, or any hit from behind while under the effect of Sneak and Invisible, the Transporter will die.
    • It is possible to kill the Transporter without getting aggro from the Guards, as long as they have enough distance between each other so they don't link by sound.
  • Defeat the Transporter (has about 1500 HP) and the Guards will warp shortly after.
    • If you did not manage to avoid aggro, the Guards will keep hitting you up until they warp.
  • Click the ??? where the Transporter died to get the Beastmen supplies.
    • Disappears after a couple minutes.
    • Even if you didn't take part in defeating the Transporter, clicking the ??? still gives you the Beastmen supplies.
  • Return with the item(s) and speak with the Quartermaster (Bastok) at (H-9).
  • Report back to Hieronymus to complete the Mission.

This is the walkthrough to Search and Seizure, the Campaign Op where you take beastmen supplies. The good news about this is that you don't actually have to do the Op to disrupt the Beastmen supply line. I did two of these the other day and watched the North Gustaberg resources drop from 150 to 125 as they repaired their fort without any supply reinforcements. Drop resources to 0 and they can't repair their Fortress. When the Fortress drops to 0, I think that's when we can almost assuredly get max influence. I've never seen it happen, but what else could it be?

I, personally, will be sitting out in front of North Gustaberg killing the transporters all Sunday morning. I just hope we can do the damage that we need to the Fortress.

  • EASILY SOLOED by a 75 THF/NIN. no other supplies needed other than acid bolts and shihi. Agryas 22:57, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Soloed as a 75 SAM/THF and as 75 NIN/WAR. Killed as a SAM by sneaking and did a one-shot kill with Sneak Attack. Also killed him with one shot by landing a critical hit from behind as NIN. The guards never noticed cause there was a decent-sized gap between them and the Transporter. --Jaxen 21:31, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Easily completed in North Gustaberg as PLD75/BLM17. Pulled Transporter cleanly away from Guards. I was hit for only 20-30 damage unblocked and it had 1900-2000 HP. Aldoris 09:28, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Easily completed in West Sarutabaruta as THF75/NIN37. Used sneak and invisible ninjitsu, walked up directly behind the transporter, and attacked - he fell to the ground instantly even though I did not use sneak attack and did not land a critical hit. Ayrlie 06:35, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Very well researched and put, Celvantes.

I know everyone cried about people not playing their jobs (mages healing/raising, thanks voking) or to any strategy and that is very largely true from many testimonials long before I ever decided to post this. Campaign is a stupid easy way from many people to simply XP and that's it.

I certainly hope there are some dedicated people who will put thought and effort into campaign in the future now that strategys are appearing and becoming logical and at least possible.

Seldom do I post in anger, so here's a rare treat for you all.

As I lie here dead in East Ronfaure, allow me to express my thoughts on one of the biggest changes we could make to aid in helping our NPCs achieve victories. To all 6 of you actually campaigning in East Ron atm, did it ever occur to you that . . . MAYBE . . . IF YOU CAMPED . . . IN THE PATH OF THE NPCS . . . THEY WOULDN'T RUN STRAIGHT TO THE FRIGGIN FORT TO DIE!?!?

MAYBE!?!?

Idiots! Get off the damn wall, stop killing lolImps . . . AND FRIGGING PULL MOBS TOWARD THE NPCS!

I'm done.

oh, have to have SnV to kill the trasnporter, bah makes it all so much easier, cant believe i never tried that, just kept running from me

hmm.. perhaps we can compile a list of the paths that the beastmen transporters take to the fortress, it seems that theres only 1 route for each zone, if its as celvantes says then there should be no trouble reclaiming areas if we lock down the transporter.

from what i know

Rolanberry - Transporter passes through the gate right by the C.A, some problems here because the transporters will start run away once they see the mass of people waiting there.
Grauberg - Transporter approches from from the opposite side of the zone as the CA. Basically the 'back' of the fortress

Only mainly campaign in these 2 zones so im not sure about the rest

I spent like an hour yesterday killing transporters for fun. Got it down to 117 single handely then it went up to 150 idk how maybe i missed one.
also its a nice campaign op almost 1k Allied Notes for hide behind a mob.

Last night I decided to do CBs again in Southern San D'Oria and it SUCKED. It seemed like we were only doing 1 short CB every hour or longer. Did SE tweak the CB timers to try and force us to get off our lazy asses and go out take areas back? If they did it wasn't working I still saw no one in beast man controlled areas and when I /sh'd a few tomes to see if anyone was doing Campaign Ops no one answered.

Anyway if your doing Campaign Ops or pwning a Beastmen fortress on Saturday /tell Paintballparrot I'm interested in getting areas back so I can get some decent XP in CB again.
